Cycled to FP first thing this morning so I could get a copy of the RI cover. They didn't have it. Frakkers. Ah well.
Still, got the comic. Which is good. Or, as I think, is traditionally put now: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Well bang goes my theory of Rung being Vos. Because the Rung that we've seen in the past has, often, been Rung from the present. Damn you Roberts!
It was no surprise really that Brainstorm was after Megatron. The big question now is: Why? To kill him. Of course. But *which* Megatron? As I wasn't the only one to notice, the spark in baby-Megs' body is blue, not the 0.1%er green it should be. Clearly Brainstorm is there to kill Megs for *some* reason, either to stop the war and bring about the functionist era, or to fulfil Megatron's destiny, which he would be unable to fulfil with a "normal" spark - making the assumption there that that body will end up with the spark that Brainstorm harvested from Luna-1. The big question, then, is: What *is* Brainstorm's mission? And how much of this is all pre-destined?
The bigger question, though, is: Is Megatron in on this? Is this his real reason for being on the Lost Light? He's always been cagey about his origins - maybe this is why. Or maybe something odd happens and Chromedome has to "fix" new-Megatron's memory, so he can't actually remember. Whatever the case... Roll on later this month!

Read it at work at lunchtime/
I never thought Brainstorm was going after Pax, as not enough would change ironically, as another Autobot would have risen up. Him going after Megatron makes sense. Killing Megatron before his creation makes sense if he wants to wipe things out having seen how the Decepticons end up. But what happens if he has different motives and isn't in fact going to kill Megatron. If he truly is a Decepticon agent I wonder if he has other motives.

Yup, nothing important happens in the issue.
There's a noticeable improvement in paper quality this issue. It's silky smooth like a baby's bottom. I suspect James Roberts is trying anthropodermic bibliopegy again.

Upon re-reading, it just dawned on me...
The Autobot/Decepticon war started all because Tailgate wanted a curly straw!
Damn. If that isn't a lesson right there...

I had a really long day spent fiddling around with XANES spectra, which is as phenomenally dull as collecting said spectra at a synchrotron is exciting. I came to the end of it and decided to do a quick TF news sweep before heading home. Saw the MTMTE preview. Read the MTMTE preview. Squealed like a schoolgirl. That's Thursday lunchtime sorted then -Nick

I've read it, I can't unread it!
I expected something to happen to Megatron's original spark but thought it would be Whirl who did it, not Rewind!. I knew the PointOnePercenter spark would end up in Megatron, it explains why he wouldn't say if he was constructed cold/forged, because he genuinely didn't know and couldn't reconcile being activated in the factory, insinuating CC, with having a PointOnePercenter spark, insinuating forged. I really didn't expect Whirl to be the one who put it there, but his motivation makes PERFECT sense: he hates Megatron, but hates the Functionists much, much more. But then to throw in The message from episode 1 which isn't (but is) from the future AND to do the origins of the Lost Light. Going to have to look again at the scenes from the functionist universe at the end cos I've really no idea what it means! We suspected Rung was special some how buy this seems to say very special and set up something nasty coming with the Functionists
Good issue :-)

Pretty much my feelings there, Phil. Fantastic issue.
However...
I assumed that the bit at the end was just a coda to the alternate, functionist universe, with a nice little exchange showing how strong Rung actually is. I don't actually expect it to go anywhere. And I don't ever expect to see Rung's true form. But then, this is Roberts, so you never know...

I suspect that was his plan all along...

Nowhere! I think it's meant to be just a generic gun. Problem is Milne has drawn it very like Megatron!

Extremely so. In some panels it even looked like it had a hammer when I read it this afternoon. And the barrel shape is very clearly that of the "Man from U.N.C.L.E" suppressors. I don't think this is accidental. Heck, it might have even influenced Megatron's choice if such an antiquated alt-mode when he was playing around with Ore-13 all the way back/forward in Devastation.

And it was, indeed...
...all about the power of love. Which, in Transformers fiction, is a curious thing indeed.
Or at least, it used to be.
For me though, the two key points from this arc are that the Autobot/Decepticon war started because Tailgate wanted a curly straw, and Cyclonus has developed a love of Huey Lewis and the News. What else could we ask for, really?
