One of those things that was going ping at the back of my head has just leapt out: Regarding the latest issue. OMG Thunder Clash as Ace Rimmer. I did squee a bit! Andy What we missed/didn't say at the time was that by being kept alive by the Vis Vitalis, Thunderclash is also an Arnold Rimmer homage in that Arnold is kept alive by being used as Red Dawrf's hologram.

I'm quite happy to have 'new' charafters like Riptide, but the problem has been that some of them (and Riptide is a good example of this) have proved to be annoying (deliberately so in his case). Whereas some of the 'existing' characters have been given really promising intros and then killed off. Just feels a bit unfair. I think the idea is to show that nobody is safe and don't assume the 'new'character is the redshirt, but maybe the device has been overused?

This is something that's been bugging me for aaages. Compounded somewhat by Alex Milne's commentary for the creation of the five new females, in which it appears that (with the exception of Firestar) James basically told him to make up whatever he wanted as long as they were female. Which is at best pandering and at worst creatively bankrupt. Even if they HAD to be female for a plot point, why make them up? Why not Airrazor, Overide, Nightracer, Strika? At least one of the characters Ed suggests above is probably off the board for use due to and up & coming Windblade issue. Am I good or what? Windblade 3

This list, released today, reckons it'a TF:TCFKARID 42 instead.... which is what I originally had down for next week!

I thought it was odd. MTMTE usually appears nearer the end of the month.
I've been thinking about how the events of the last issue might play out. Would you like to hear my theory? Of course not. Well, I'm typing it anyway.
The barnacle-aliens have been using Thunderclash as an incubator. When they infect Transformers they "kill" them quickly (a la Countdown) which is no good if you're trying to infect an entire species- especially one that's spread out across the galaxy. Thunderclash already has a life support system the size of a starship keeping him alive- it sustained him through his injury and now it's keeping the infection from overwhelming him while the barnacles' servants use him to expose others.
Either Firestar or Velocity brought the barnacles on board and is in cahoots with them- Firestar would make more sense, since this could lead to a showdown with Nautica where she could deploy what she's learned from Rung's psychological profile book to stop Firestar in her tracks and get the upper hand on her. Once that's done, she and First Aid (with information gleaned from other players like Ravage, Nightbeat & Getaway, and Megatron, whose space-bridge-esque body proves to be singularly resistant to infection) modify the Vis Vitalis' output to purge Thunderclash of the infection. Back online, Thunderclash - who has obviously memorised the medical records of every member of his crew - reconfigures the VV to purge each of the infected crew members in turn before congratulating Megatron for his return to the side of the angels and complimenting him on his intellect and vision in helping to develop the cure.
Rodimus comes back with his new pack of highlighters to find that Thunderclash is alive and kicking, Megatron has tentatively joined everybody else in the Thunderclash fan club, all the barnacle victims been saved and he missed all the action as usual. That Thunderclash, eh? What a guy.

Hooray for (spoiler) ... those guys!
I can see all these recent apparently disparate issues coming together for one slam-hum-dunk-dinger of a season 2 finale.

I thoroughly enjoyed this issue!
And now that [redacted] has [redacted] with [redacted], I am very much looking forward to the build up to the big 5-0.
Wow. Never imagined that one modern Transformers series would reach 50 issues, let alone two!

I would say... That that was pretty superb. And again, I also am surprised by the hate. But then I guess that the added popularity has made the comic a bigger target. The day is not far off when all MTMTE forums shall resemble Doctor Who forums. *shudders*
Anyway, before those dark days come, I'll also add:
Well, nothing that's not obvious, really. I loved it. I loved how absolutely ridiculous the idea of personality ticks is, but it's also a perfect sci-fi idea. And the solution was... obvious, really. Also really nicely done with the main characters not *actually* being the one to solve it. Again, a nice bit of self-awareness in the text, there.
Also a lot of great character stuff in there, too - and all of it positive. Well. Positive in the way that most of the characters grew. Even those with a few appearances - Ravage lying on top of Nightbeat and chatting at the bar at the end was just one gem. And the ongoing Cyclonus and Tailgate stuff... Heatrbreaking that Tailgate put *their* song on but Cyclonus didn't realise in time. Those two... I hate Getaway. I really do.
And the dancing... I really need to see Alex dance at a convention now, because... that's some interesting moves he's got there.
The best part of the issue though, is of course the very end. Totally unexpected, and made me damn near wet myself with gleeful mirth. I am, however, assuming that Swerve *didn't* actually leap, and that it's just a little embellishment that he's made in the telling of the tale (given he opens the issue narrating it), based on his recent obsession with Dr. Samuel Beckett...

I enjoyed this a lot; I almost hesitate to ask why it's getting hate. I can see that if you dislike Roberts' writing this issue isn't going to do much for you, but surely you wouldn't still be reading it in that case, and what there might be to hate otherwise...

I think a lot of the criticism levelled at MtMtE is of the "when are they goooiiiinng to find the Knights of Cybertron it's taking aaaaaaages" variety which would of course spell the end of the series. So, that's silly. As Ratchet said in the very first issue: "It's the journey not the destination".
And of course there's the usual Transformers are too much like humans. Which I can agree with to a certain extent, but then again it seems James is writing a social sci-fi story so we need that element of humanisation for it to work.
Maybe Transformers aren't too "human"; maybe we are too "transformer".

Just to be absolutely sure. Or they just like troll-fuel. Myself, I'm still waiting for another 34 issues of All Hail Megatron before I decide whether I like it or not. -- Graham
