Firefox has updated itself and is now functionally useless. I need a new browser. Any suggestions?

I'm running Opera on my laptop these days and I find it runs fairly well.
Not played around with Chrome much although I did have an install of it kicking around.

what's wrong with Firefox? In the latest update, when a new tab is opened it overwrites the tab to the right rather than open up a new tab. It renders the browser unusable as I like to have commonly visited sites permanently open and open and close additional ones as required. I've now moved to Google Chrome and it's working well so far. I'll give it a test run for a few days. -Ralph

As documented elsewhere, Tab Mix Plus should fix your problems.

I am having a very smooth experience thus far. I just need to master how bookmarks work.

I still have Fox on my machine as back up but Chrome has been my preferred browser of choice for a while. Much lighter footprint that Firefox.

I use Firefox now but with tabs disabled. I was quite happy with IE but thought I'd give Firefox a try when the computer asked me if I wanted to. I haven't noticed any difference in quality between the two, and see no reason to install a third program to do the same thing as two I've already got.

Martin, as I suggest above, enable the tabs on Fireofx and try it with the tabmixplus add in.

I never had any problems with tabs, I just wasn't interested in having them. I'm quite happy opening multiple browser windows and switching between them via the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

Google chrome are sure really handy now most are now using it, even i. ;D Yeah, but that's what everyone said about Firefox a few years back, and about Internet Explorer when I was using Netscape, and Netscape when I was using Mosaic. I think I'll just skip this one and wait for the next big thing to come along. Martin

Indeed. My loyalty is fleeting. Due to my general frustration with computers and getting them to work, as soon as a programme/download thingy/service/utility no longer works the way I need to do I'm on to the next version!

I liked Firefox back before it got as gimmicky and bloated as Facebook. I hate how people have a tendency to take something good for its function and eff it up with needless things like that. Before long I'm looking for the new "alternative". So for now it looks like Chrome for me too.

I never tend to notice the new functions in things like Web Browsers to much degree.
I pretty much use them for exactly the same things that I have been doing since the beta of Mosaic. This leads to some confusion when I find myself wondering why the system footprint of them has become so larger, until I recall all the extra gubbins crammed in there that I don't use.
My attitude is very much that as long as it renders html properly and continues to work smoothly then I will use it. If not I will migrate to a new platform that does do the job (hence the fact that I only use IE at work where I have no option and run alternatives on my home machine)

I'll stick to and keep recomending Firefox. The ability to customise it is a huge plus for me.
