Doesn't really hold a great deal of appeal for me really - multiplayer gaming should involve folk being gathered on the same sofa or at least in the same room so that heckling can be done to full effect. Playing with and against faceless folk on the Internet doesn't really hold much appeal for me.
On a more practical level the success rate of MMO's based on existing media properties doesn't seem that great - Matrix Online, Star Trek:Online, Conan none of them have exactly set the world alight, and that is before one considers stillborn projects like the Stargate MMO. I am rather of the "believe it when I see an actual beta" frame of mind.

New character art just publishedI don't think that TF game discussion belongs in General. Would anyone be willing to move the various TF game threads into 'Transformers Film & TV Discussion'?

We can do better than that. I've hoovered all the TF game threads up into one new forum!
If you find any I've missed drop me a PM and I'll move them too!

My top-secret Thursday afternoon last week was an interview at Jagex in Cambridge, and I saw an awful lot of art like this and the others in that gallery which got me quite excited. It will live or die on its gameplay of course, but I think they've done some wonderful visual work.
I signed an NDA, but I don't suppose they'd mind me saying I'm excited for the game based on what I saw, as long as I don't tell you what I saw!

Jagex's game looks fairly interesting - they've been to last 2 Botcons and been pushing the lore/storyline aspect as well - which I think is really important in an MMO (as well as a decent community).
I'm aware its all very Java-focused (I'm barely touching Java at work right now after years of mainframe coding), the company seems fairly stable in a frantic industry.
Good luck with your application.
Marc.

Indeed - good luck with your application. They look to be a very solid company with a very sensible business head on their shoulders so it'd be good if you could get a foot in the door.
As to their Transformers MMO I've kind of treated it the same what I treat most games until they have a beta or a demo - as vapourware until they have actual working code that they can show folks in action.

Thanks chaps, it does seem like a good employer and Cambridge is quite a nice town. However it's all a bit academic (as is Cambridge, I suppose), as their process took so long that in the meantime I had three job offers one of which I accepted.
I still went because it could be good if they liked me and I find myself applying again in the not-too-distant future, and hey, an inside look at where Transformers Universe is being developed! Interview practice can be useful too.
I would like to see more gameplay, the trailer only showcased fairly standard fighting stuff and an MMO needs to be richer than that. Jagex do have previous, Runescape must have something going for it to be running so long, but I don't really know much about how well-regarded it is.
They're certainly far enough along that I can assure you the game is not vapourware, but I can't tell you whether it's any good!

There's an idea, but I guess the name I already registered for is attached to my primary email. It would be annoying to lose that.
Their account recovery doesn't seem to be working at all. They need to hire some good engineers!

Transformers Universe on the cover of EDGE magazine (due out this Thursday) Correction: It's November 22nd.

Sadly - I ditched my EDGE sub a while back after over a decade - it and NGC had dipped so much in quality and I couldn't tell which was which in my direct debits so I cancelled both. The turning point was their reviews of the Fall of Cybertron Wii/DS games which they clearly had reviewed without playing the final version - once trust is lost - out the door you get....

You are wise. I bought the mag. It was rubbish.
GamesTM has a neat Super Mario slide-up cover this month. I stopped buying it regularly over a year ago, but I find I've been picking up the last few issues on the basis of the great content. Highly recommended

They have been sending emails requesting scans of PC specs and stuff for those who signed up for the Beta, I am getting quite excited.
The only MMO I was playing - City of Heroes sadly bit the dust last night. Played that since December 2005, so it was sad to see it go...

Transformers Universe is apparently alive and well. I received a mail directing me to their home page where a rather good video awaited me:
I'm officially interested again and with a pokey new laptop, I should be able to handle it.

What will happen first? Edinburger Trams or Transformers Universe?

They have totally changed the game since the announcement.
At Botcon several years back they had a character creator and said people who signed up would be part of the beta and could reserve their character names.
That never happened. The game as its designed right doesn't have a character creator (you can't design your own Transformer, have to select from one provided) and is more a tactical squad based tactical game rather than single-character MMO it was originally implied to be.
Will it be any good? Who knows. I do think they could have communicated things better.

Looks like more of the same smash/bang/button bash stuff. Hey, if they can replicate the Cybertron games' multiplayer, I'll snap that up in a heartbeat! My first game of FoC online stands as one of my favouritest gaming moments ever: Driving around as Bumblebee I see that checkpoint A is under attack. I turbo boost my sleek alt-mode towards a ramp, spotting a seeker in the distance. I open fire with my low-powered machineguns on the seeker as I hit the base of the ramp. As I fly through the air toward checkpoint A the seeker returns fire with a missile which I barrel roll to evade. Before landing I transform into my robot mode just in time to come crashing down into a heavy destroyer class 'Con. My energy blade lands true and as he swings blindly to catach me, I roll away and fill his face with blaster fire. His head explodes. checkpoint A is saved. Now where did that seeker get to?... Epic.
