It has annoyed me about dealers wanting to leave early but we are going to be setting down a lot more guidelines for dealers for 2012. We are doing a lot more work early on this time to make next year a better convention for everyone concerned.
Also, with regards for dealers wanting to leave... well the goods inwards access is at the back of the hall which will be blocked off by other dealers tables so they'll have trouble leaving anyway! Seriously though, we may put some form of time restriction for dealers so they won't be allowed to pack up before a certain time and if they do they will face a penalty in subsequent years.
Ed, catch me on MSN and let me know about the Committee Member you're on about so I can look into it.

In the interests of transparency the only thing I bought ahead of people getting in was a copy of Transformers#23.
I've never really used the perks of being in there early as I am waay to busy usually.

We did offer limited trading on Friday night this year for everyone but I may scrap that plan for 2012 or enforce the fact that it is for browsing and collection of pre-orders only and that reservations can not be made and it will also give my team the chance to check tables for stock that could be in breach of our selling guidelines.
With regards to volunteer buying, a possible idea could be a very limited 30 minute window on Saturday morning BUT we give each volunteer / committee member ONE carrier bag with their name written on it. If we then give them a maximum of 30 minutes to visit all of the dealers in the hall with the additional restriction that they can not buy any more items than will fit into the bag that they are given. The final condition is that purchases MUST be made by the end of that 30 minute period and all bags must be brought to the Control Desk for storage for collection later in the day.
That way, no-one else will see what the volunteers / staff have purchased, a single bag limit will control over-spending and the quantity sold and a time limit should prevent too much being sold as well.

Simon, that sounds like huge fun to watch:-) Kinda like transformers supermarket sweep! Please display it on big screens for everybody to see. I'm only half joking.

Richs valid comedy angle aside, theres one point I can't abide.* Valuing Transformers based solely on size makes junker Unicrons the ultimate prize. Knowing the true worth of our toys, is what separates men from boys.
*abide is over the top, far to rough but it's hard this rhyming stuff.

I know size is a tough factor to judge things on, but it's also the one that is more blatant when people are seen carrying anything. Looking at what dealers brought with them, it seemed as if larger items were more limited so a size limit may curb that.
There's no single system that is going to be 100% perfect but I think we do need to offer something for volunteers, even more so for 2012 when volunteers will be more critical than ever.
