I was going to add this to my other thread - but having loose limbs can't be classed as a disappointment after 25 years when this one is about a Transformers toy you've expect to be cool but is rubbish when you first get it fresh out the box.
I'm sure everyone is thinking of the same Transformers.
When you first see the photo of him drawn in comic form he looks cool - then you see the toy & say - I want that micromaster.

This is one - not about the toy itself . but how Hasbro didn't use the compartments on the Dinobots toys for weapon storage. I'm sure everyone had a friend who had Slag & put small guns inside him - but the Dinobots had nowhere to put their guns & swords. Maybe something for a Universe Dinobots line?

Pete: The compartments on the Dinobots are for their Diaclone pilots. (http://www.diaclone.net/orid/list.html and search for DINOSAUR ROBO) Aside from the toys inherited from Microchange weapons storage on a toy was virtually non existant pre Beast Wars.

What was wrong with the Classics Minicons? I don't recall them being especially disappointing?
Agree on the rest though. I'd almost purged my mind of Mega Dinobot. Probably one of the biggest hype-to-letdowns ever

PCC five-packs - no more articulated than the Special Teams twenty-five years earlier and the drones don't transform.

It did puzzle me why Hasbro didn't use the little diaclone pilots anyway. All removing them did was lose play value, nothing was really gained by not including them. Hasbro made up the fiction themselves, they weren't restrained into not including them. They could have been little robot drivers or something fiction wise (they certainly looked more robotic than person-like!)

MP01 Optimus Prime. Looked so good in pictures but was no fun to play with and the vehicle mode was bobbins.

Almost the entire Armada line. On first sight I liked the basic look of them, but then I opened them.
The previous 10 years had been a fantastic period for Transformers. From some of the best G1 bricks (Rotorstorm) and lightpiping, through G2 introducing articulation and Beast Wars going full on ball and socket joints and all the rest that came up till RID.
Armada offered non of that or at least not enough.
Classic Rodimus is the only other one I can think of were I had expected better.

RID ULTRA ******* MAGNUS. -Ralph Keep him transformed - he is better at carrying 3 cars than the original where they do fall off the top if you have an uneven surface. Star Convoy - once you see the toy, you only want to get it for Hot Rodimus. SC is just brick like. Maybe if we have an updated release?

Insanity in this thread.
RiD Ultra Magnus is a frickin' awesome. The multiple sounds depending on the combination is well executed, especially when combined with Prime to Omega Supreme.
And MP01 getting slated? What the heck are you expecting? It's a collector's grade toy, large quantity of die cast, so of course it will be heavy. Robot mode is a little blocky, but Prime *is* blocky!

Star Convoy is fabulous, how can you not love him? I would like him a lot more if his head wasn't visible in base mode. Also, compare the robot to the box artwork! That is one dynamic looking picture showing off all kinds of articulation. Open him up and, oh. And this is coming from someone who *likes* Star Convoy.

A redo of the toy would look awesome - we all love how StarConvoy looks on the box, Takara now have the design tech to make him a real toy & solve all his problems. They can do soem liek how we had the 25th an toys but to be 25th an for Japan only line. But then Hot Rodimus 'll be rubbish - like how the Armada Hotshot swapped round on the redo toy.

I would have to say that Masterpiece Primes is the biggest sense of dissappointment I have had when I first saw him - he looks very nice as long as he is sitting in a pose on the shelf but the transformation isn't fun, it literally feels like work to transform him and in fact when I was fiddling about with him (actually Ralph's one, whilst convincing myself that I definitely didn't want one) I passed him over and said "would you mind finishing it off?" because I had lost interest in the process of transforming him.
I own lots of complicated transforming mecha, but even when they are complex there is an elegance in the way they come together that MP Prime (someone needs to do us a picture of Prime with the white helmet, belt, and armbands to go with that term) seems to lack. He is just complicated and finicky and unfun to transform.
He also has a truly hideous misshapen mess of a vehicle mode, like someone was trying to get close to the original version without paying much attention to the actual shape or proportions of it.

But not in the "just click the head down" way that Energon Optimus Prime & I think Cybertron too? Ball joints tech would make Star Convoy look cool.

ROTF Devastator :/ Initial reports of a 2 foot tall combining Goliath. Hopes of 6 or 7 individually transforming figures, combining into the most awesome Gestalt EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. And then the 1st pictures of the overpriced Playschool, My First Combiner. SOBS

I'm after picking it up anyway - the legends set not the brick set. But there's bound to be lots of thigns they need to improve on it - seeing its a 2000 series toy not 1980 one.

At least they did try with the legends one - but still not right. But why could they have not done this with the Supreme figure. All that extra size to fit the engineering into would have allowed for decent individually transforming figures with an interesting and probably more movie accurate combined figure.
