So how many of you have bought a basic Transformer body, and have had to hunt down each separate part to complete it? Have any of you had any unusual luck or hard times doing it?
I'm still on the hunt for 2 Scorponok radar towers....

jetfire, spent about a year buying and trading for any junk parts. Eventually managed a good looking figure with a fair amount of the armour though it was all broken. Got one other full body in goodish condition another in broken condition and at one point probably about 5 seperate bodies or set of legs. I did the traditional evil Jetfire with one and my own Skyfire with custom built arms using glueguns to cast and air dried clay moulds.
then last year I bought my cousins which if he ever finds the gun clip will be complete. It was much easier.

A large part of my collection was obtained from second-hand sources. In fact, before Beast Wars came along I think I owned more bought from car boot sales than owned from new. Consequently, I have many incomplete toys; there are that many that I haven't yet been all that inclined to go to the effort and expense of completing them, largely sticking to luck instead. The lucky find I was most pleased with was Streetwise's handgun at a car boot sale; I owned Streetwise from new but quickly lost his gun, the only part I've ever lost.
I have gleaned numerous parts from collections I've bought for resale. I think I completed my G2 Dreadwing and Micromaster Combiner Anti Aircraft Base this way. I did complete my Slapdash buying individual parts from an eBay seller.

Oh it's a real pain. I did it with some of my MM toys - thanks Nigel - and it took forever to find some bits. Tried doing it with Tripredicus. As a consequence I have many Tripredicus spare bits.
It's a nice feeling when you get there though.

Not quite hunted stuff, just got lucky. I was given a Trypticon at one point, whole body but missing the majority of parts. Then we bought in a TF collection at work one time and among the stuff was a complete set of Trypticon parts, but no actual Trypticon, so I got to take them.
Only part I've actively sought out is Chromedome's head. I guess I might try and complete Fort Max one day, but it'll probably cost more than I'm willing to pay.

Predaking is my project. Need Tantrum and all the parts, head, hands etc. Haven't spent too long on Ebay as yet, cos we're still without PC at home due to renovations. But one day I'll complete him- I swear!!

I've sort of done it with a Grand Max. Got the box and base robot and oddly instructions and catalogue and a radar dish and the little fellas arms then got a awful condition figure that came with most of the accessories. Now Im just missing the pretender shell and sword which I dont really care about.

I find Grand Max's Pretender shell to be slightly more pointless than any other Pretender shell, as by putting the robot in it, you end up rendering the bigger robot useless.

I don't think that there is anything in my current collection that I have built up from parts, at least nothing I have deliberately set out to complete. I do have a Grimlock that is pretty much complete from parts - but that is a result of unexpected gifts from a Hub member one Transforce-on-a-time, rather than something I specifically hunted for the bits of.
I have a partially complete Jetfire I am working on getting all of the extra bits for - but only with an eye to replacing with a complete one in the fart future, at which point my current one becomes a FASTpack donor for my VF-1J "Hikaru Ichijo" type Valkyrie - so I'm not sure that counts either...

I've only done this with smaller figures. I find my impatience means I start out thinking, okay, I'll let this sit on the back burner for a year or two and see if I come across the bits I need, but then end up overspending trying to find all the bits as fast as possible.
Apart from childhood figures with the odd bits missing (I am on an eternal quest for one of wheeljack's wings and Sandstorm's gun) I think the only Transformers I've built up from bits in recent years have been Apeface and Snapdragon. Apeface is done now, but I'm still missing Snapdragon's two blue fins. Which cost more than the basic body to buy separately.
Mind you I am very tempted to try and do this with an original Omega Supreme because his track and leg pieces seem to turn up fairly frequently, but working tanks are less common.

The Jetfire suffered a structural failure of one of its arm joints - leaving the left arm detached at the shoulder, after which we re-evaulated the remaining hours of airframe life remaining and have opted to replace it in service with an Arcadia VF-1A which had zero elapsed flying hours. The "Jetfire Type" is currently sitting in the "for disposal" pile, whilst I work out what to do with it. The boosters/missile launchers and the leg-mounted fuel tanks have been salvaged for the Blovck 1/55 -1J "Hikaru Type" as planned, and the gunpod has been placed into storage as a spare. Karl
