Ahhhhhhhhhhh! Anime colours MP Sideswipe! Wait a minute, he already is in anime colours. What's the plus? a new head to match Sunstreaker's style? Last time the plus on Red Alert was to signify anime colours. I'm really curious to know how they can justify a Sideswipe reissue with a different code number. A straight reissue yes, because Sunstreaker, but what have they changed? His current toy already has Sunbow colouring. The logical thing to do is change the head. Not that I want that, MP Swipe is one of my favourites just as he is. He and Prowl are the best of the cars. |

Reissue Sideswipe has a new number? What the heck? How can he have a new number (and the likes of Red Alert and Bluestreak have their own numbers), but Dirge, Thrust, Skywarp etc don't have their own number? (this kind of thing is important to me).

It's MP-12+ instead of MP-12.
When Red Alert was re-released because Inferno came out, they redid his original toy colour scheme to match the cartoon and called him MP-14+ instead of MP-14. So now we're getting Sideswipe again because of Sunstreaker, but he's being called MP-12+, suggesting they've recoloured him somehow.

I just noticed this in one of the toyshow links Phil posted:  So we're looking at a selection of pile drivers as accessories, and the 'show accurate' paint job basically means the bits that are silver on the original are now white (gun, shoulders, knees, feet, face) and the tyres are grey instead of black. |

Yeah. Instead of a straight reissue for people who want this to go with Sunstreaker, just like Red Alert and Inferno, Takara are using the opportunity to bring the Sideswipe toy more in line with their current aesthetic. It's all about the toon these days. They're trying to make them match more. However to do that they really needed to give him one of the new style faces.
Conversely, I'm hoping 3p provides Sunstreaker with a toy face because his looks just like Megatron to me. They're too generic now.
