Stimulation mainly, along with recognition with colours and objects etc.
Best learning toys I've bought have been from the Entertainer. Mainly wooden based stacking toys.
Early Learning are also a good place to look,

I think this guy's a spambot, his last post links to the same site too.
But then, his first post seems to be real.

I'm not sure either! Someone actually reported the first post, presumably as spam, and I got a new message when I came on earlier that I'd never seen before asking to do something about it.
It was in TF toys so I heaved it down here.
We've had a few definite spambots recently that the modteam have dealt with.

But a spambot doesn't edit it's own posts. Yesser did.
I don't know what Nursery School is, so that doesn't tell me what age level the child is. If it's the same as preschool though, I'd suggest building blocks, be they wooden or duplo.
Get a little older, I'd suggest simple transformers ment for young children. Being puzzles, I feel transformers encourages good problem solving skills, as well as hand-eye coordination. By 1st grade, they can get into the harder mainline TFs. As well as standard legos and kre-os.

Nursery = Kindergarten.

Oh, so nursery is above preschool then.
So yeah, my suggestions would lean towards things like simple transformers, and Duplos.

Here its all the same with the 2-4 age bracket.
There are Toddler groups for the under 2's as well.
Duplo is good one too.

For us, Kindergarden starts around 5ish. Preschool is usually 2-4. Then there's "Daycare," or "Daycamp" or some such for before. Preschool is not mandintory/legaly required, and is not a government institution. Though there's been off and on movements to make it both. Though, there's also been movements to make some sort of institutionalized schooling mandintory almost from birth.
School is so bad here, and the only solutions anyone ever tries is "More of it!" Resulting in longer school years, longer school days, more homework, less offtime. I've even heard suggestions to make six full length days instead of five.

It's not a spambot, but it's a spam account.
Checking the links from their previous posts.

Some spammers will make legitimate looking posts, only to later, when the post/thread has fallen under the radar of mods, edit it to include a spam link/advert.
Also - It's my niece's first birthday coming up. What can I get her that will be fun and educational?
Fuducational if you will.
