My MP Soundwave is here..... I'm very very happy. Need, need time to get to know him. Full report tonight. Anyone else's arrived? Who else is getting one? Aww, he's lovely. He's a beautiful deep blue. Not a huge figure though! But ok. You can tell the plastic's different. Is he plastic or die cast? |

He's plastic. All plastic apart from a bit of metal on his feet. The plastic is the cheaper plastic we've been seeing on recent figures. Feels funny. It's very light, but sturdy. The finish on the plastic is gorgeous, like a glossy almost metalic looking colour. So to look at, Soundwave is magnificent. Pick him up and he you're very surprise how light he is. It's a bit off-putting actually! The metal on his feet adds great stability though. But, yes, plastic feels cheap- yet fairly strong and with a lovely finish.

The sculpt is perfect. One of the finest I've ever held. He looks absolutely wonderful. The face/head is very well done. It's like he's jumped right out of the comic or cartoon. Articulation is excellent, stability is good, weaponary is good. Oh baby, he's fab. Haven't transformed him yet, so fill you in on that later. Size wise he isn't very large. Adequate, but only as large as an old style MP Strike Plane. I'd hoped he'd be a head taller to be honest. But he looks so gorgeous I can handle it. My MP Megatron is packed in the loft at the mo. I need to get him down and compare size with Soundwave. I think he'll look ok, but small next to Megs, and old MP Optimus.

Just transformed him for first time. Good transformation. Suppose it should be given all they've got to do is convert him into a brick shape! But they've done a great job. Transformation is simple enough, with decent bits in there. Casset-deck mode is very nostalgic, very G1. Lovely use if the gorgeous dark blue and silver. He even has a volume control, headphones hole and other nice details. Very well done alt mode indeed.

I'm still a little surprised they didn't have some kind of music play capacity to be honest. A little mp3 player, the size of one of the cassettes which when put in plugs into a little speaker and control panel or at least the head phone jack. It could have come preloaded with a bunch of Soundwave audio clips.
Yeah I know lots of extra cost, but they already managed it on a much smaller Soundwave and it would have been fab.

Also Hasbro need to officially announce they are releasing it, otherwise I'm going to cave and buy the Takara version and then cry (manly) tears of sorrow when I see the Hasbro version for half the price.

Wasn't there news that Hasbro would be releasing him? Thought I saw something mentioned somewhere. I may even have seen a picture, and he was in a lighter blue, and I remember hopeing mine didn't come in that shade of blue. But I've probadily imagined it!

Hasbro have released everything except Megatron, V1 of Thundercracker, the second version of Starscream and Rodimus trailer (did they release Ultra Magnus?) so I expect they will, but would like to know a time frame.
With Sideswipe and red Alert available Soundwave could be held back, or released in between the two of them. If its not going to be till Christmas or next year I'll grab a Takara one when I can, but if its out in the summer I'd probably wait.

I actually went with Kapow, 'cos I can't stand all the customs shinanigans. I'd rather they do all that for me! Kapow always do a good job for me, and this order was no exception, good communication concerning the production delay etc. Probadily works out a touch more, but hastle free is worth it IMO, especially went you take CUTA into account.
Let us know what you think of yours when he arrives.

Kapow Toys currently have the Amazon exclusive Energon cubes available for £11 if anyone wants them. I ordered them despite not owning Soundwave yet. |

Jesus SP, way to post splurge! Mine got despatched from Hong Kong recently.
The plastic issue is an interesting point for debate - I thought they were using ABS plastic which is a higher quality for Masterpieces since Starscream, but I could be wrong.

Oh yeah! I love him. Laserbeak was worth the price of entry alone. I don't know how they managed to squish all that stuff into the same space as the original tapes.

Yes looks like cassettes are just as well done as Soundwave himself. Can't wait to get the other four.
Judging by what folkes have said about Sideswipe, the designers have really gone all out. Masterpiece are masterpieces.

Pfft. Mine arrived yesterday. Cassette aside, I just feel like the engineering isn't as complex or as neat as previous MPs.
The figure should be nice and panelled when in alt mode and it's not on the back.
The original had an excellent feature whereby there was an actual battery compartment where the weapons were stored, as batteries. Why have we lost this? Sure the shoulder cannon is attached but it doesn't need to be.
I feel the only thing we gain over the original figure (produced 30 years ago I might add) is a tapered waist, which isn't really enough to make this figure great.
His hand held weapon is also flakey. The back end that slides out is very fickle and easily detached and the silver piece doesn't slide out easily. We had great weapons engineering on Rodimus' guns, this just feels lazy.

I must admit I've come to find his hand-held gun deployment troublesome. Hadn't noticed the batteries bit or the alt mode back, it is different as you say, but it doesn't bother me personally.
I still love him to bits, fascinating how two fans can have such different oppinions of a given figure! I feel he may be the best figure I've ever owned!
But I'm sorry you're not pleased with him, Stom. Will you keep him?

Second MP thread in a row I've come across as overly negative. He is still a great figure, I just have high, high expectations from the MP line.
Also, the box is LOL big considering the contents.
