It should at least be readable.

I've read Alan Dean Foster's 4 movie books so I was always going to read, this anyway but it's good news David is doing it.

I've just this morning downloaded this for iBooks. But I will wait until after I've seen the film before reading it.

I have yet to see a copy in stores. Even if I think the film is poo I will still read the book as PAD rarely puts a bad shift in.

I will also be picking this up in due course. The novelisation should be decent regardless of the quality of the film. (Of course, if the film was ok then it would give it a step up, but it should be readable no matter what.) If I am lucky it will manage to come somewhere near the level of enjoyment I got from The Veiled Threat, which is still the Movie-related spin-off I most enjoyed.

Has this actually had a UK publication? I've hunted high and low for it, to no avail. All I've seen was one random overpriced import copy in FPG.

Having checked shops extensively I have given up looking and asked for Andu's Internet Ordering Service.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I forgot I had asked Andu. I picked up a copy for a fiver in HMV. It's as best as could be done with the script really, but does have a more consistent tone.

Differences from the film: Prime is noticeably less psychotic, the twins appear (and die horribly), the stupidity of Cybertron appearing in orbit is cheekily acknowledged, Wheeljack/Q has a different death, Brains and Wheelie survive, the Chicago battle in general plays out differently and the ending Megatron/Sentinel/Prime battle is significantly different. Megatron survives and effectively declares he has changed his ways. -Ralph

I suspect it was changed late in the day as the same scene is also in the comic adaptation. -Ralph

They make "it's all over type" comments before their ship goes down, which is the last time we see them. Unless they popped up in the background later? -Ralph

Oh yeah, I remember. Depends what people want to assume. I suppose, going purely by the movies themselves, we could be supposed to assume that Skids and Mudflap were killed by Devastator in RotF before he climbed the pyramid. I don't remember seeing them after that. Martin

It's a better ending and avoids the Western action movie cliche of 'the hero must kill the villain'.*
-Ralph
*The same idea is why The Dark Knight film rates so highly for me. I find it more satisfying not to see the villain be killed

Likewise with the recent "Incredible Hulk" film. I vaguely remember a comment someone made to a chap involved with the film at a convention panel, asking why the Hulk didn't kill the Abomination. He answered "because he isn't a monster- he's a hero" or something like that. Movie Optimus Prime, however, fits squarely in the 'monster' category in my eyes. -Nick
