Remind me when I am through in the Burns cave and I will walk you through it. I really don't want to put a video online with my name against it showing how to rip DVD's, even if I do own them.
Handbrake will also work at converting other file formats to mp4 as well so you can have them on the iPad too. It's how Battle of the Rock Lords is on my iPad.

I recommend bitrate to be 5200 and RF at 13.25 for a damned good output. File will be a bit on the large side though.

Ralph - there are actually some fairly complicated things programmed in BASIC believe it or not. Though generally its close cousin COBOL is responsible for a few.

This has paid for Phil's toys over the years I think most VB code has been replaced by c# these days - even in office. Our company eventually shelved VB6 a few years back and its something of a monolith. Basic is still a mighty powerful language (some games built on ye olde blitz basic with testify to that).

The leap from basic to VBA to a C variant isn't huge though

Having a familiarity with the .NET framework will help you with VB.NET and C#, but I'd hate to think of a VB programmer trying to do manual memory allocation and clean up for structures etc. in plain ol' C.

I have derailed the thread! hahaha! Take that Apple! I mean - sorry guys! I wrote my first multi-threaded application a few years back in c#, I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the language - although professionally I've not "officially" worked in it - I made a tool to do data dives from Oracle of archived data that was on IMS for any future legal/other needs to extract specific groups of data (of which there are gigabytes upon gigabytes). I wasn't too happy to basically do all that work and hand it over to an outsourced group from India - but that's life. Yes, lets get back to iPad help: 1. Return to apple store. 2. Demand Refund. 3. If no refund goto 2.

The Night Sky app now has a Santa Tracker option for Christmas Day! Follow him through the sky! -Ralph That is progress for you - when I was a nipper we had to rely on the National Air Traffiic Service and NORAD for updates on Santa's progress. Now we have the technology that we can all check for ourselves. Karl

I am told that one of our number now has an Ipad... And four and a half hours of work, cursing and tinkering still can't actually use it. The up-to-date version of iTunes has failed to install on two different computers in this house. (I know why it won't install on the older Mac, but the other one I cannot fathom out why) and as a result I am unable to use my purchase. I am therefore going to prevail upon a friend of mine down the road to borrow his wireless internet connection this evening, in the hope that I can use that to get it to complete the set-up process. Failing that my options appear to be, try to find somewhere with free Wi-fi I can use to carry out the process, buy and kludge a wireless router into my existing wired router/modem, or accept that I have spent something in the region of four hundred pounds on a paperweight. In the meantime it sits their mocking me with its 3G connection that I can't use because Apple won't even allow me to turn it on properly. Less than happy at the present moment. Karl

Hmm. Just had a sit down with a comic and a drink (non-alcoholic), cooled off a bit, and thought of something else that I might be able to try. Back to the laptop before I go out again I think. Might have another tweak I can throw at the problem...
I have far from given up hope. I am determined to get my shiny black/silver device up and functioning.

Sorry to hear you are having problems Kaptain. Mine was ridiculously easy to set up. The first time was on a Windows and the other on a Mac.
I was under the impression now that they could be set up straight out of the box now without another machine to be used, as they can now wirelessly sync with a computer if need be.

I was under the impression now that they could be set up straight out of the box now without another machine to be used, as they can now wirelessly sync with a computer if need be. Andy I suspect that the New iPad probably can. This is the legacy iPad 2 model, which fitted better into my budget. I have made progress of a sort, I dug into the laptop and temporarily killed one of the security suites - which turned out to be what was stopping iTunes from initiating. So I have now got the current release of iTunes up and running on the laptop. The iPad however just sits there on the end of the cable connection stating "connecting to iTunes" and does... nothing of any note. I am away to my friends for the evening in a few minutes and I will have a go and see if I can get it kicked into life over their Wi-Fi. If not I still have a few thoughts in mind as to what to do next. (Other than scream, shout and grumble. I've done all that already and got it out of my system. Karl

Mmmmm. I'm on the Ipad2 and it loaded up quite quickly on first go. IIRC I took the firewalls down on the desktop device so it could connect to Itunes 1st time.
