First TF Prime UK DVD out in few months. Should start getting series 1 released next year & series 2 released on cartoon network whenever they start to show them again.

It's out now in supermarkets for £8.00 and has the first five episodes. Not a bad price point, obviously bugger all in the way of special features.

Wasn't it down for release last week? I'm sure some sites had it for 22/10/12. But I didn't see it around so expected it must have been delayed until after xmas seeing that the comics has nearly disappeared [can't remember if Titan ran an advert for it apart from the change to win a copy of it]

For a cartoon DVD it's pretty good given the usual pricing for these things.

Yep. We still live in an era of DVD companies asking £10+ for 2 episodes and a 'bonus' episode for many series! Heck, HMV are still charging £6-10 for Armada DVD's!
Five cartoon episodes is the running time for many feature films that sell for a tenner or more.

I was quite struck by how cheap it was - I initially had dismissed it the first time I saw it because I remember the DVD's of previous recent TF shows being somewhat light on content.
I changed my mind when I saw it was the whole opening arc for eight quid. I don't think that you can say fairer than that. It stacks up pretty well against the "as new" cost of any other animated giant robot/mecha series in terms of how many episodes you get for your money.
(Prime is an odd duck in terms of how I feel about it. The fact that I have picked up the opening mini definitely shows that it has grown on me over time though). Karl

I will pass. What I saw of Prime didn't do much for me as it was a show entirely devoid of a premise.

It feels like it's only "kid's shows" which are released in this manner, as multiple volumes of too few episodes rather than a complete series. Oddly, this seems to not be the case in the US, and complete (or complete *half*) seasons tend to be the norm. I understand the corporate milking, but it makes me sick to my stomach.
...
It's possible that I'm channeling my frustrations of this matter over other, BETTER series than Prime, though.

The multiple volumes annoys me too. But the US actually released Darkness Rising separately from Season one for about the same price then released the whole of season one in one volume. If the UK opt for multi volume release. Get the US version from Amazon US £25 shipped and no CUTA.
And Season 2 is out in about 3 weeks for $20ish.

they could've at least stitched all 5 eps of Darkness Rising into one!
also.....Ebay has season 1 & 2 official DVD & Blu Ray, but R1 only.
they also have both seasons in bootleg form, which work on R2 players
& we'll all be in an old folks home by the time they get around to releasing both seasons on DVD & Blu Ray in the shops in the UK, which just goes to show you how slowly the wheels of progress turn in the UK with reguards to certain TF series on DVD at retailers in the UK!
mind you.....with HMV slowly going down the tubes, you may have to pick those up at supermarkets(if they decide to stock them! & YES....i know they stocked Darkness Rising).

I got seasons one and two from Amazon US. Blu Ray versions, though dvd is available, I got multi-region player.
Basically I was able to view episodes before they aired in UK. Sorry state of affairs.

And now... "there is another" as the saying goes. I saw a second Prime DVD in Morrison yesterday evening, another five episodes for eight pounds affair.

Karl I'm not really impressed with this release strategy. What is it, 5 episodes every 6 months? Bonkers. Its not like they're huge, complex releases that take ages to put together!

Unfortunately, the UK home video market for kiddy cartoons is still locked into the 'bung the first few eps out on a few releases before the sales stiff' strategy. Always boggles my mind. It's like we're still in the 80's VHS market!

I'd be interested to see what happens now, with the drastic reduction of presence of HMV. Supermarkets are pretty much it now for these sort of things, surely release strategies are going to have to change.

It's like we're still in the 80's VHS market! -Ralph It is bonkers, especially how cheap comparatively DVDs are to produce! The model, as I understand it should be: 1. Release cheap DVDs of several episodes a pop a month or so apart 2. Release the boxset Then you have on shelves the boxset of the series, as well as cheap releases (at about a fiver a pop) that will either encourage kids to collect with their pocket money, or act as something cheap for mums to buy their kids to shut them up for a few hours.

I think that the mindset is that the only market for these things is to kids, and that therefore if they release boxed sets the price-point will put off parents, leading to a lack of sales. (A few shows do seem to have gone the boxed set route - "Wolverine and The X-Men" did it, but I can't really tell how successful that is as it was only HMV who had it around here, and I only saw two copies - one of which I bought so how many units it actually shifted I can't tell). I think the prevailing wisdom is still that of "These things are bought by parents and they aren't going to bother buying more than one disc for their offspring". I'm not sure that this is either true or accurate - given the loyalty of children to their favourite shows I reckon that the sheer might of pester power would shift more than a few boxed set releases. But turning around the distribution chain on it looks like it'd take a lot of ommp.

Yes and bizarrely they are not releasing a Blu-Ray in the UK.
Idiots, so I can get better quality versions illegally than I can by paying for it.

I've just picked up the last TFP DVD I needed from Tesco (1.5) for £3 instead of £5. so just need to wait for series 3 to be released.

Seems wrong to buy DVDs of a series that should be available in HD. If only playing US blurays here wasn't such a pain to manage.
