I'm still going with this, watching in an order suggested by the Gobots wiki that fixes continuity errors. I've never watched it properly before; it's much better than I expected. You can feel a half decent transforming robot show is trying to break out of the Hanna-Barbera mould.
I like the fact not all the robots are strictly humanoid, like scorp is on wheels in robot mode. It's also interesting how many female characters there are and that they're not distinguished as being 'female' like Arcee, they're just part of the team.

It's a better cartoon than Sumbowww.

Now that is a bold claim.

It's about on par with Sunbow. The animation isn't as bad as geewunners everyone claims, and they actually go off model far less. Less animation mistakes. And the plots aren't any sillier than TF.
Honestly, I wouldn't even say the character models are less detailed.
Like Gobots in general, CotGB is a victim of a massive decades long propaganda campaign against it.

What's great about these episodes is that there's so much in them. Given they're the same length as Transformers episodes so much more seems to happen. I might do some Sunbow Sundays style writing at some point to compare episodes that use the same basic plot.

Watching 'Cold Spell'. I love the fact that Dive Dive likes Earth because "There's not much use for a submarine on Gobotron". That raises SO many questions!

Followed by "These old sea legs aren't much use on land".
On Gobotron did he sit in a cupboard like the Dinobots hoping one day to be useful?

Gobotron was being rebuilt so I doubt he had the luxury of a cupboard, perhaps some kind of place to stand out of the way maybe.

Ha!
There are some belters hidden in the middle of this run. Auto Madic, Tarnished Image and In Search of Ancient Gobonauts are all great fun. Wolf in the Fold would have been good had the traitor not been so obvious.

There's a lot of defecting in this series. Steamer is at it now. I don't blame him, mind. I suppose the lack of faction symbols on the toys means there's more fluidity possible, but there must have been four or five episodes so far where characters have switched sides or been double agents. Aside from 'Traitor' and Grimlock's gradual disillusionment with being kept in a cupboard, that isn't really used in the Transformers cartoon. I wonder if that's because when it comes to new characters coming into the series in Gobots they're less well defined.

Just wait until you meet the Guardian character who is named Traitor.

I'm coming to the end of this run through now. Two episodes to go. Certainly doesn't peter out though, some of the best episodes are at this end of the series. I also like that we get a Cy-Kill origin story that almost feels believable.
