I *think* we've already done vehicles (week 10). But if you want to throw a vehicles list in as well as figures ..... So we have. My memory really was flaky today. I shall restrict myself to the figures and have a think about how to cull it down to a top five list.... Karl

BAF was before my time! I am still only vaguely aware of it and it seems Wrong to me. My brain tells me the only true Action Force is Marvel era Action Force.

You live in a world of wrongness Burns. The only true UK Action Force is the Battle version whereas the marvel UK version is a corruption of the US GI Joe comics!

Marvel UK is where it's at for Proper Action Force! Flint v Destro! Geoff Senior! Wees all over the US GI Joe stuff. It still angers me that it has never been reprinted! -Ralph

The only reason it's Flint vs Destro is that Hasbro UK couldn't be ****ed to put Hawk, Duke & Cobra Commander figures in that opening 87 assortment.

Gah, Mommy and Daddy are fighting again. I'm torn.
Battle Action Force is a mighty and beautiful comic which I remember with great fondness.
And Flint vs Destro is awesomeness in it's most purest form.
What's a girl to do?!

After some thought, my list somewhat resembles this
1) The Black Major - I had the generic officer version of this as well as the Black Major release. A young Karl's brain immediately disregarded any existing back-story and decided that the Black Major was a former Action Force officer who had turned traitor because of Baron Ironblood's promises of power and advancement. Sure, it isn't Shakespeare but it made the toy special to a young Karl and I still have a real soft spot for it. 2) Kraken - a Sea Monster not completely removed from the Sea Devils I had read about menacing Doctor Who.... sold! 3)Sparrow Hawk - from the SAS Force Para attack set. Great figure, with his High Altitude Jump Gear, and dark uniform. 4)Space Patroller - spacesuit, sidearm and laser-rifle that plugs into his suits battery pack. Great stuff. I like weapons that connect to things or plug into things, so this was a good fun figure. 5) Z Force Captain - one of my first Action Force toys. Looked recognisably like the British Army personnel I was used to seeing and comes with a good extra accessory in the shape of a grappling hook and rope for daring descents down the impassable North Face of the bookshelf to thwart Baron Ironblood's latest evil scheme.

Since we've just had "Star Wars Day" I thought we'd start a run of SW Top 5s Week 24 Modern Star Wars figuresModern is defined as any figure realeased after the 1995 relaunch of the line...... but *NOT* Animated Clone Wars as the style's different and we're going to do them separately. www.rebelscum.com/actionfigures.asp for a list of figures, anything by the Vontage Kenner and Clone Wars lines.

I don't have too many of these, So mines a short list if you'll please.
1. Qui-Gon Jinn (On his face there is no egg!) 2. R2-D2 (Now with a middle leg!) 3. Darth Maul (He splits in two!)
On which note, that will have to do.

Now a line for which I've waited! Star Wars figures- modern, updated! A recent blast of purcoosels I've had! Despite the fact it makes the Wife feel bad.
5 Count Dooku. I freakin' love Count Dooku. 4 Ep 3 Obi-Wan. He just seems to have a realy good stance. 3 Klaatu, or Wooof. Very nostalgic mold. 2 Nikto guard. Again, super nostalgic. 1 WeeQuay. Great update, and yet again, very nostalgic, the original figure being one of my favorites.

Palitoy Action Force
1. Aqua Trooper - loved the Q Force colour scheme. 2. Skeletron - Mad 3. Muton - had a whole bunch of these due to them turning up discounted in a local newsagents in the early 90s 4. Infantryman - see Muton 5. Black Major - Very simple, looks the part
There is space for both comics! They are such different beasts it's not like choosing between UK and US Transformers comics. I'd love to see UK Classics volumes from IDW, especially if they can get someone to give them the love James Roberts does.
Forced to choose I'd go UK though - otherwise we'd have an appalling origin for Goldbug, for one thing.
Modern Star Wars
This is tough, and a lot (too much?) to choose from. Will require a lot of mulling. Ackbar may be in there somewhere though. And the recent Vintage Moff Tarkin.

5) POTF2 Darth Vader's Tie Fighter The first couple of years of new Star Wars were mainly older vehicles rehashed with new deco and detailing. Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is the first ground up redo. The original Darth Vader's Tie Fighter was just the original Tie fighter with new wings. This one is a new body, more sturdy wing, a hatch that opens correctly, missiles, extendable guns and room to fit your figure in. It's a toy whereas sometimes SW vehicles can be a collectors piece.15 years later and Hasbro haven't felt the need for a major redo. 4) OTC SandcrawlerWhen I was younger I had a Land of the Jawas but I really wanted a proper Sandcrawler toy. There had been a Remote Control Sandcrawler in the US but it never came out in the UK. So I jumped on the redo version (the sole redo in this list) Yes it's a brown box (and it's generally used as a box for keeping my Jawas and spare droids in) but I love it 3) Vintage Collection ATAT WalkerTake one of the greats of the original line. Make it even bigger and pack more action features and figure space in. Sold. And indeed it was to me the week it came out. 2) SAGA Big Millenium FalconAgain take one of the icons of the original line and make it bigger. I wouldn't pay full price (you may remember BMF price watch) but what I paid made it worth it. It's not perfect - you could open the back off and the landing gear could stay on better but it's fabulous. 1) SAGA Luke Skywalker's X-WingThere's a story here. This is the original X-Wing fighter I had as a kid. with built in R2D2, that opens the wings. I wanted an R2D2 I could remove and replace with R5D4. You saw other droids in the droid socket, you saw R2 coming in and out the droid socket, you had another droid you could try in it. Big Fail in my book especially when along came the Vintage Y-Wing which did have a droid socket. Fast Forward to 1995: they'll make a droid socket on the new version? No, they just retooled the dome. So when news of a newly tooled bigger electronic POTF2 FX X-Wing reached me was I a happy bunny? NO, because this went one worse and made the pilot non removable too. Four years later the FX X-Wing was gutted of it's electronics and built in figures then resculpted. With A F***ING droid socket. Zero hesitation. My local comic shop (SW distrbution to the UK toy shops was **** at the time) got this in the same day as The Imperial Forces Battlepack I can remember sitting on the train to Waterloo with both opened and putting the Black R4 into and taking it out of the X-Wing something that Liz refers to as "Put The Robot In, Take The Robot Out". I repeated this with every astromech I had when I got it home. I've repeated it with every astromech I've bought since. It's been back since as Red Leader's, Red 2's and another Degobah X-Wing but *THIS* is the Star Wars vehicle I wanted as a child and finally I had it. Bubbling under: SAGA Imperial Shuttle basically a reissue SAGA/AOTC Rebel Gunship Top toy. Buy the Pilots and you get the gun pods to make it better. Buy the clone speeder bike and it stashes in the back. The only thing wrong with it at the time was for years after release you couldn't get white clones to fill it with. Now the problem is obtaining the better gun pods. Rocking horse $#!+ rare. I love me all the modern Snowspeeders. Yes the POTF2 Snowspeeder, POTJ Snowspeeder and Saga Collection Snowspeeder are all redos of the original but you can see the evoloution. A complete redo for the Vintage Collection Snowspeeder resulted in a smaller toy which is arguably better than the original, but I'd love to have a POTF2 version again POTJ Tie Bomber Another new big vehicle. And it's fab. For years the various versions didn't get a retail sale in the UK before Tescos got some in for pennys last year. POTF2 A-Wing just for putting a really good vintage vehicle mold in the price range of average fans.
