Sad to see people lose their jobs.
Went into the Prince's St branch last night thinking I might catch a bargain with their closing down sale. Unfortunately anything of interest is still at a higher price than online! And "All stock now discounted!" does not actually mean all stock is discounted.
The staff were not all in official uniform which was probably nice for them, but whether that was from authorised choice or rebellion I don't know.

Kaptain, I corrected the number in your post: you quoted the original and not the new store closing figure.
sentinel I can see the Glasgow Argyle store on the closure list linked above

So what, we have 1 HMV in Central Scotland now?
No idea what is happening to FOPP, who are owned by HMV.

I'd say Ayr was more West than Central myself.

Out of curiosity I had a look at one of the Edinburger store's closing down 'everything must go' sale. Inside I found only some of the stock was actually marked down. They had one Doctor Who DVD, which is one I am after (Vengeance on Varos Special Edition). This was marked down, but was still £6 more than what it would cost me to get it direct from the BBC shop. I was surprised to see the store was carrying new releases yet ironically Skyfall was a few quid more than what I had seen it for in a supermarket.
Such a shame. I wish the staff in stores the best of luck in finding speedy re-employment. The way the store was run was not their faults.

I get the impression that the policy is to keep at regular prices all the things they think they have a fair chance of selling at other stores - I suspect that come the closure it will all go back into the logistics chain to be redistributed amongst the other stores - and to mark down the stuff that they don't think it is worth their while transporting and storing in terms of the likely return.
Sadly the staff, who have likely done their level best in the thankless world of retail, are the ones who find themselves left high-and-dry by all this. I hope they do manage to find other opportunities.

Two weeks ago the HMV on Edinburger Princes St was selling off the fixtures and fittings. Now it has a poster up saying it has been saved. Good. We don't need more people being made unemployed as long as the current Government is in power.

Saw that the other day as well. Do you know what happened to the combined Waterstones/HMV over at Fort Kinnard? Not managed to get over that way for a while and would like to hope Watersones is still there at least!!

The Fort Kinaird HMV is going under, leaving Edinburger with just one HMV now. Naturally, there are big signs up everywhere stating 'EVERYTHING MUST GO' and 'TOTAL STOCK LIQUIDATION' yet very little stock is discounted (I couldn't find any DVD's on sale and many are vastly overpriced). Says it all really about why the chain is struggling. It is still unfortunate though as it does involve people's jobs and there's nothing good about more folk being thrown on the dole in these harsh times.

It was kept open?? I thought only the Princes St store had managed to hang in there after they had decided to close all of the Edinburgh stores.
The closing sale at the St James Centre one was exactly the same. That place is now a Game store.. who I believe were having their own struggles warlier this year too.

Not really a surprise given HMV's inability to change it's ways. It's pricing structure being exactly the same after the administration hasn't helped. Far too expensive to shop there save for sales.

Indeed. I had noticed they had *reduced* their Lego to actual RRP in a closing down sale. A shame. I hope staff are re-employed quickly.

I did, however, gain a splendid Thanos mug for £3.19. Sad to see some folk being rude to staff though.

No call for folk to be rude to the staff, they are likely doing their best even knowing that their jobs are about to derezz with them inside them.

I had a look in HMV a few weeks back. The £3 DVD are now in a 75% off sale & priced at £8 now.
