I love the way the wing mirrors fold up, but yes, paint damage is always a danger. Glad you like him Stom! It's over a week now for me, and I'm still amazed by him. He's everything a Prowl fan could want, except for the fact that he isn't life sized and sentient.

Now that you have him, is your life-long Prowl mission over? Where does the hardcore Prowl collector go from here?

What a fantastic concept, my dear Doctor! There is not one that I know of, but there should be! One to march one's Prowls to!

Does a song exist that would be great enough for A Prowl Song? Or should it be an original compossition?
I've got 'Tusk' by Fleetwood Mac going around in my gead head, but I don't think that will do.

My Prowl finally arrived from Transbridge on Wednesday. He is awesome. Prowl was the first of the larger cars that I had as a kid and because of that I've always had a fondness for the G1 toy. It was quite bizarre seeing the car form in my hand and thinking, actually, that's probably the right size ratio for how big my hand was in 1984 against the size of the original toy.
I think he looks great transformed and stood next to Sideswipe. He's a more intricate model, but I do think the amazon launchers are necessary to balance him up. My only disappointment with the whole package is discovering that the launchers don't actually fire! With regard to his physique, he is a more slender figure than Sideswipe, but then he is a narrower car. I've spent a long time looking at the two together, and have come to the conclusion that what does it is that his thighs are too thin for the size of his feet. Sideswipe is more in proportion. But that's a very minor quibble over something that is such an amazing figure. Seeing these two together makes me more than ever want a full Masterpiece set of the original 1984 cars.

Almost certainly! Seeing these two together makes me more than ever want a full Masterpiece set of the original 1984 cars. Well, Wheeljack and Bumblebee are already said to be coming out next year, and we also know a new Ultra Magnus is on the way. They've recently done Starscream, Soundwave and the tapes (six of them if you count Ratbat with Soundblaster). Assuming they at least do Skywarp and Thundercracker in the new style, and they do, say, four moulds a year (not counting remoulds who seem to be coming out a month apart)... how long would that actually take? If they just do the '84 lineup, that's Sideswipe (and Red Alert, Tigertrack and G2 Sideswipe) Prowl, Bluestreak (and Smokescreen), Wheeljack, Bumblebee, Jazz, Mirage, Ratchet/Ironhide, Trailbreaker (and inevitably Hoist), Hound, Sunstreaker, Cliffjumper, Huffer, Windcharger, Brawn and Gears. Three done, two more announced and... 11 to go. A lot of the '86 minibots can be made from the '84s so they might show up too along with their mould-buddies. Japan loves Skids, so he'll probably be in there. That just leaves Grapple/Inferno and Tracks. If the '85 minibots come out too, that's another five. That's at least 13 moulds or slightly over three years to get the '84 lineup out if they stick to a regular schedule. 21 if they do all the '85 bots* too. There might be a few curveballs along the way of course, like more jets, more tapes, Blaster, Astrotrain & Blitzwing, more movie characters or more Dinobots. No bother, eh? -Nick *Masterpiece Cosmos. That is all.

At least in robot mode Universe Inferno and Grapple look very comfortable amongst MP toys and I still wonder how they would do anything better while keeping the current scale and Cartoon robot mode heights.
I vaguely have a thought how it could be done, but it would have to be a panel monster. All seems a lot of hassle but between the two remoulds there are 4 easy repaints which would make it good value for them I suppose.

I am hoping that the sightly smaller scale and increased frequency of the Masterpiece line recently means that they are trying to make it a long term concern. Given there was only, what, five original moulds from 2003-2010, we've had five alone in the last two years if you count the reworked Starscream, plus three cassettes. I'd love to see this line flourish over the next few years and Takara seem like they want to push it what with this fan vote.
I'd also love to see an Asia reissue for Rodimus given they've done Prime, Starscream and Grimlock recently. I didn't get him and I don't want the US/UK version without the trailer, but if Magnus is coming out it makes sense to pair them up.

Looking at that list of original cars that aren't yet in the line, I'm pondering whether they'd go cartoon or toy accurate with Ratchet & Ironhide. Gotta be cartoon surely.

I think that's a safe bet. The reissues of the original toys were terrible shelfwarmers. I have great affection for the Ironhide/Ratchet mould, but I accept that I'm in the minority. Given how popular the characters are, how unpopular the Universe versions were and how different the movie versions are, I reckon they'll show up sooner rather than later.
I forgot about the fan poll! MP Star Saber (probably)! EEE!
I will have to go back to Scotland if Takara reveal that they're doing a Slicer repaint of Wheeljack. To pry Ralph off the ceiling with a crowbar. I mean who else can they do? Marlborojack?

I suspect while Ratchet and Ironhide will be cartoon accurate they will probably have some toy robot mode form too. I also expect the the trailer base from the original toy will be used. If not theres an awful of of bulk to cram into a robot thats in scale with the other cars.

I'd paint my bottom blue and run down Skipton High Street naked with joy if they do a cartoon accurate Ratchet/Ironhide. I'm a fan of the characters, love the G1 toys, but hate HATE HHHAAAATTTEEEE the Classics mold (AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH I HATE IT SO MUCH!!!!!!). So 'New MP' style Ratchet/Ironhide would be fab. They're bound to do them soon, surely.

That's a brilliant observation! I hadn't notice that! Welcome to the MP Prowl Owner's Club! He's lovely isn't he? Despite the cheap plastic and hollow legs-from-the-rear. The styling is just so G1-gasmatic, I'm still gaze at him in wonder. I need to pull my finger out and get the Amazon launchers actually.

...Seeing these two together makes me more than ever want a full Masterpiece set of the original 1984 cars. I have had similar thoughts (that have been kept safely hidden from Mrs Shockprowl's mind-scans). It would be fantastic, wouldn't it? Although, at the same time, strangely frustrating. Because not only would it take years to accumulate (especially keeping in mind they're bound to be holes that would never be filled correctly, yes I'm looking at you Generations Trailbreaker), but also I've spent years building up a '84/'85 collection in 'C.H.U.G.', only now to be planning to replace them! I'd have to keep most of my C.H.U.G. collection though, 'cos Piglet (eldest child) likes to play with them on occasion, and as careful as she is, there's no way I'm letting her loose on my Masterpieces! And I enjoy my C.H.U.G. immensely. But the super-G1-gasamness of the 'New MP' line cannot be resisted! (There is the question of a Devastator in this scale... I needed a Devastator.) So, Nickos, how long are we thinking here? For a 'complete' '84 collection in 'New Masterpiece'? 5 years ish? Longer if one throws in a couple of '85ers. And that's probabily relaying on some 3P assistance, particularly where mini-bots are concerned. But with a MP Not-Huffer on the way (and I'm sure I saw some pics of an MP Not-Gears), maybe there's hope!

Well let's see. For the bots, Optimus Prime, Sideswipe, Red Alert and Prowl have been done with Bluestreak and Smokescreen due out by year's end and Bumblebee, Wheeljack and the Fan Vote chap (probably Star Saber) already on the books for 2014. The 'cons have recently had Starscream, Soundwave and the cassettes with Soundblaster due out in a couple of months.
I think my sums were slightly off above. If we assume that Takara will only do the 1984 and 1985 Diaclone cars, they'll need to do:
Ratchet/Ironhide Trailbreaker/Hoist Inferno/Grapple(/Artfire?) Jazz(/Stepper?) Mirage Hound Sunstreaker Skids Tracks
That's 9 moulds (and 3 remoulds), which would take 3 years at 3 moulds per year or a bit over 2 years at four. If they just do Autobot cars and ignore the minibots, Dinobots, Blaster and Perceptor they could have the full line out by... the end of 2016, at the earliest. Both Binaltech and the book-style reissues ran a similar length of time so it's doable, although some early releases (popular guys like Jazz and Bumblebee) I could see getting two releases like Starscream and Convoy before them.
Decepticon-wise, if the line is successful I think we can expect more jets and possibly a new MP Megatron and Shockwave (unless they decide Quakewave has made it unnecessary, in the same way that the combiner team KOs in the early 2000s stopped any thought of reissues according to Hasbro Q&As). If they want to keep the sides even they might even do Astrotrain and Blitzwing, although MP triple-changers would be nightmarishly complicated. So that's the two gunchaps, two triple changers and up to five (or more, as we've seen with Sunstorm and Acid Storm) jets. That's another four moulds and nine releases, or at least another full year if they put out four moulds a year.
I don't see them doing the Constructions with two 3P Devastators already on the market, but you never know. Hercules and Green Giant were released in pretty limited numbers and the deranged prices they now command might just show Takara how strong the demand is.
All that said, there's still the movie characters (Hot Rod's been done and a new Magnus is coming), 17 other minibots several of whom have appeared in Binaltech and other collector-oriented lines, four more Dinobots, Perceptor, Blaster and his army of cassettes. EDIT: Ooh! And the Insecticons!
Or they'll stop after Bumblebee because the Japanese market that are Takara's primary concern just don't have the buying power to justify continuing the line. What the hell do I know?

I need to pull my finger out and get the Amazon launchers actually. They don't seem to be cheap though. The seller I bought my Prowl from has them for £10.11 for one, so you are looking at about £20 for a pair. the problem I have mostly found with Mp Prowl, is I now want more Masterpiece figures, but I can't afford the prices being asked for one figure. Going by that a Masterpieces Red Alert or Sideswipe tend to cost about £70, I have been considering getting on of the knock offs, which would cost about a 1/3 of the price and seem to be excellent quality.
