I'm just going to assume the actual release date is 2nd September, allowing a pleasant surprise should it come out before then. If it is delayed it will take a few "pushed back a bit"'s until I register it as being late.

I'm always unclear why folk put such store by Amazon dates. Surely it's easier to wait until the product is actually solicited for sale by a publisher?

I don't really pay that much attention to them anymore. A lot of them are clearly just plucked out of the air at random - I can think of several things which I am aware of having had Amazon release dates come and go when the folk actually making the book have said that it has been moved to the back of the "pending" pile to be worked on at some future date. Amazon release dates don't mean a great deal to me as a result.

which would be about right for the 19th August Amazon are quoting in this week's "I'm sorry the release date on your item has changed" email

Got it in hand now, it really exists! I too now possess this magnificent tome. Straight into the Top 5 things IDW has ever done. No prizes for guessing what the other four are. Martin

So glad I pursued rumours of this book through the comic shops of Cardiff last week until one of them forked over a copy, albeit for a high price. I had assumed Amazon sellers would have it by now, but it seems not.
Really nicely bridges the story gap between TF UK Classics Volume 4 and Death's Head Volume 1, so that is how my shelf is now arranged.

I knew the book was American comic sized, but I'd never seen inside one til Auto Assembly. The pages inside are even smaller!

Really doesn't bother me. Just as the size of the Titan b/w books and Marvel/Panini pocket books doesn't bother me. And at least they aren't so low-resolution that you can see the individual pixels, as is the case with the recoloured TF US Classics and Classic G.I. Joe books.

And I know some of the Titan reprints were a bit blurry at full size. Even so though...

The size is a bit of a pain, not so much that the book is A4, but that the art is reproduced even smaller than that (there was also some oddness with the early UK stories where the black and white pages had an odd half remastered look with the foreground characters yellowish and the backgrounds bright white). I suspect these books were first conceived of as a cheap and cheerful money for old rope way of taking advantage of the deal with Marvel- much as the new US reprints wound up being- but Roberts drove things along to add all the lovely extras resulting in the odd feeling of a basic beginners cheap collection and a high prestige everything and the kitchen sink fancy pants series all in one.
I'm lucky enough to have all the original comics so the extras are why I'm buying, but I do know a few fans who point blank refuse to rebuy bedause of the presentation, and whilst that's their perogative I do think they're missing out.
More cheerfully, though still not in stock at Amazon, the Book Depository do have it for just under 16 pounds so I've put my order in.

I'm lucky enough to have all the original comics so the extras are why I'm buying I had all the original comics but gave them away as soon as the TF UK Classics book reprinted the last story never to appear in a book with a spine ('Ancient Relics'). I love books with spines and stiff covers so much more than floppies, and put protective clear plastic covers on all I own. My recommendations: - Titan Transformers hardcovers (softcovers will do if you can get undamaged copies) - Beginnings, New Order, Cybertron Redux, Showdown, Breakdown, Treason, Trial by Fire, Maximum Force, Dark Star, Last Stand, Primal Scream, Matrix Quest, All Fall Down, End of the Road (reprint US #1-80 and Headmasters #1-4 minus 'Man of Iron' and 'Big Broadcast') - Marvel Transformers Universe TPB - Marvel UK Transformers: The Complete Works Volumes 1-2 (reprint US #1-4 in large hardcover format with alternate ending) - Marvel UK Transformers: The Movie large format collection (1986) - IDW GI Joe and Transformers Volume 1 - IDW Transformers UK Classics Volumes 1-5 - Marvel Death's Head Volumes 1-2 - Titan Transformers UK large format collections - Target: 2006, Fallen Angel, Legacy of Unicron, Space Pirates, Time Wars, City of Fear, Dinobot Hunt, Prey, Second Generation - Titan b/w pocket books - Aspects of Evil, Way of the Warrior, Fallen Star, Earthforce, Perchance to Dream - Marvel UK Transformers hardcover annuals 1-7 Apart from some of the later TF Universe entries (which I've printed off the Internet), later UK covers and 'The Big Broadcast of 2006' (which I still have as a floppy), that pretty much covers everything essential in acceptable quality, I think. OK, so I no longer have the coloured version of 'The Big Shutdown'. A larger format version of the UK hand-painted 'Man of Iron' appears in TF US Classics Vol. 3, 'Big Broadcast' appears in Vol. 4 and the Movie in Vol. 7. I wouldn't recommend that series, though, nor IDW's 'Best of UK' and 'Target:2006' books unless it's for the new cover artwork galleries. There's also a 1993 Marvel TPB of the GI Joe crossover, but it has several miscoloured pages. Martin
