It's alright the new listings are often like that. Watch the prices go down soon enough.

I've got most of the original issues featuring guardians of the Galaxy in Essentials. IMO it's bobbins.

I have a fondness for them and I have the original MSH issue they debuted in. Battered though it may be.

Read the 2 Walt Simonson FF trades earlier. Great stuff, loads going on and exciting and funny. Just what I want from FF stories and even better at half price! Roll on volume 3 to complete the run, I say. Snap to it, Marvel!

It hasn't been solicited as yet. I just assume Marvel will put one out at some point. Such a volume would indeed have the 'new FF' issues in it.

The Black Glove HC - got this cheap and brand new on Ebay. Fucking shitty paper, well done DC. It means some of the later pages are a bit bobbly and stretched. FFS someone needs to give you a Marvel hardcover and say - MAKE IT LIKE THIS DUMMIES. The JH Williams issues are a cut above the Tony Daniel stuff. Morrison's Batman story really needed a much better artist for it.
Invasion - Mantlo/Giffen/McFarlane/Sears
Great rollicking stuff that moves along at 100 miles an hour and is done in three oversized issues. Well worth picking up.

Thor Visionaries: Walter Simonson vol 5. Stirring stuff, though with a slight whiff of diminishing returns creeping in, so probably best Simonson called it a day there. I hope that does not sound too critical: it's sterling stuff, but he was running out of things that could be done with that Marvel version of the Norse myths. Or at least that's how it reads. A fuller assesment shall wait until I get a hold of volume 4 (which I have not read) and the reprint of volume 1 (only partly read before) so I can read the whole run in one sitting!

Two of my favorite Thor issues are in this volume - the Splash pages battle with Jormungand which sees Simonson return to art and the episode which reintroduces the Destroyer.

It's true unless they did the Mantlo Almanac and had all his Rom and Incredible Hulk in it. But such a book would destroy all reality with it's awesomeness.

Magik showed up this week. Like Kitty Pryde & Wolverine this is another of the X-Men limited series that I can't believe has never been reprinted as it's so important (even more so) to the ongoing X-Men storyline revealing what happened to Illyana in Limbo. It was printed about a year after X-Men 160 where she had been aged so fans had had to wait a while to find out what happened. The once small criticism i have - especially in light of the extra issues included in the forthcoming Hawkeye volume - is that X-Men 160 itself isn't included. www.newsarama.com/comics/081216-marvel-march-2009-solicitations.html for Marvel's March solicitations including said Hawkeye volume. The LS was reprinted (once) in the mid 80s (I have a copy) but the other goodies especially the Byrne avengers issue may make this worth getting. Also: New Mutants Classic 4 ! Sold !

I was ruminating on which 80s X-Men limited series remain uncollected (trying to predict which will be next up for the HC treatment)
Wolverine - always in print Magik - just out in HC X-Men Micronauts - rights limbo I suspect Kitty Pryde & Wolverine - recently out in HC Beauty & The Beast - never collected. Nightcrawler - never collected - could chuck in the related NC tale from Bizzare Adventures 27 Iceman - never collected - could chuck in the related Iceman tale from Bizzare Adventures 27 X-Men/Alpha Flight - Asgardian Wars is long out of print and should be reprinted. X-Men/FF - traded years back, out of print, but availible in B&W in Essential X-Men 7 (?) X-Men/Avengers - traded years back, out of print Havok & Wolverine - Meltdown - traded years back, out of print
Got a few more to do. Then there's the non X-Men series - Hawkeye and Cloak & Dagger are getting the treatment but there's The Falcon, Sub Mariner, Black Panther, Vision & Scarlet Witch II .....
Have I left any out of either category ?

Yet another reason why DC's Trade Paperback department sucks ass:
Was in waterstones and saw there was a new Will Eisner Spirit tpb entitled Femme Fatales and thought - hey I'll pick this up. Looked in it and saw more than a few stories that were included in the only other collection of Will Eisner Spirit.
Twats.

Did I mention Essential Wolverine 5 has arrived ? Lots of grey all over the place - need to compare to the previous volume where the repro was appalling - but from memory this looks sharper, the problem is more to do with the source material (we're into 90s era Wolverine - chronologically E Wolverine is the most advanced of all the Essentials)

I had a flick through GI JOE CLASSIC VOL 1. Looks nice, decent paper stock, features #1-10 of the Marvel run. Repro is great, some recolouring done but faithful to the originals. Horrid cover art (not a J Scott Campbell fan) but generally I can see myself picking this up off Amazon at some point - boo to Diamond UK for making it £2 dearer in stores than it would have been previously.
