One of my colleagues on the Epic Collection FB group suggested the following for Epic 2:
Tales to Astonish #77-101 Tales of Suspense #80 Sub-Mariner/Iron Man #1 Sub-Mariner #1-7 506pg This begins and ends with new storylines for good break points." Additionally you might possibly want Tales of Suspense 79, which starts the story into TOS 80 and Tales to Astonish 82 or just last page?)
That wraps up Namor's Tales to Astonish appearances and brings us to the 60s/70s Sub-Mariner volume
We can ignore the 2 annuals, both Tales to Astonish reprints.
Extras in that period:
Ka-Zar 1's 11 page Herculaes back up strip leads into Sub-Mariner 29
FF 102-4 are the same months as Sub-Mariner 29-31
DD77 same month as SM 38 & FF111
FF 147-149.... Sub Mariner is bimonthly by FF148: FF148 is the same month as Sub Mariner 71 and SM 72 is the last issue.
Marvel Spotlight 27 same month as FF 169 & SVTU 5 =-
He appears in The Defenders from time to time from here onwards but I'm struggling to think of anything essential there that says "REPRINT ME" in Namor trades. Possibly the initial setup, someone remind me what's what and how it works?
Sub Mariner's next regular home is Super Villain Team Up. Now this has been Complete Collected in a rather nice volume everyone should own - would Epics go again just for the proportion of the issues that Namor's in?
This question makes any attempt to speculate on Epic Contents from this point and above this point nigh on impossible until we know if SVTU is going to get printed again. But, for the record.
1 same month as FF 161 SM in 1-13 13 same month as FF185 You Probably also want Avengers 154 & 155 either side of SVTU 9
Namor then falls into disuse a bit: I'm sure there's more than a few appearances I'm forgetting so help me out!
His first major appearance of the 80s I can remember is in Alpha Flight 4, the same month as FF260 : Namor is also in last 2 pages of FF260 and first 2 of 261 either side of Alpha Flight 4. It's significant because it's here he meets Marina.
He's then in a couple of panels of AF 12 same month as FF 268 and AF14-16 same months as FF270-272.
Namor Joins the Avengers 262 same months as FF285 Namor returns to Atlantis to save Marina in Alpha Flight 39 & Avengers 272 same month as FF295 Namor marries Marina Alpha Flight 40 same month as FF296 Marina dies Avengers 291-293 same months as FF314-316 =- Namor then "dies" in Iron Man Annual 10 same month as FF329 =- The Saga of the Sub Mariner is a 12 issue retelling of previous Sub Mariner tales. Does it get included or not? www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?seriesid=4116&page=gallery 1 same month as FF 320 12 same month as FF 331 =- And then we get to the John Byrne Namor. That's had 2 classics before petering out.
Annual 1 is the third part of Subterranean Wars and the only one Namor appears in
Annual 2 is the second part of Return of the Defenders along with Incredible Hulk Annual #18 (part 1), Silver Surfer Annual #5 (part 3) & Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme Annual #2 (part 4)
Namor 47 & 48 crosses over with FF 385 & 6 as part of the Earthbound thread of the Starblast event Starblast marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Starblast_(Event) The primary event is told in Starblast #1-4 and Quasar #54-56.
Atlantis Rising might be a decent inclusion if the Epics need something to round Namor's last volume off nicely?
