I've read some of the run thanks to some tatty issues of Fantastic I once owned. Very nice stuff so I shall be getting this and I dare say Gav will be getting it too!

I also see that X-Men FF (80s not the Lee monstrosity) and X-Men Avengers are getting the HC treatment. Bravo. Both have been out of print in colour for too long (FF is in B&W in Essential X-Men 7)

Captain America: The Death of Captain America vol 2: The burden of Dreams. Brilliant and gripping stuff! I must know what happens next! The Red Skull's devious plan advances with many twists and turns! Some effort has gone into the trade presentation too: in addition to sketches and the obligatory cover gallery the script for Cap #34 is thrown in too. I approve of this.

It really is top, top stuff. Before Brubaker I would not have touched a Cap comic with a barge poll !

I have always loved the character, but usually felt he worked better in The Avengers than in his own title. Until this run. It's bloody good stuff, even when he's pan bread.

I loved Mark Waid's run on the book before and after Heroes Reborn, although pre Heroes Reborn was stronger. Operation Rebirth was brilliant.

Hercules: Secret Invasion It's only when I read Love & War that I realised I'd missed this. Off the pace compare with v1 & 3.
Hercules: Love & War is much more what I was expecting, decent comics with some humour. Skip SI, buy this instead

meanwhile Essential X-Men v9 turned out to be a lot better read than I was expecting, all the Muir Island stuff influenced by the Shadow King holds up a lot better in the trade format. It's not Claremon't top work - I'm looking forward to his last grasp at greatness when Jim Lee comes on board in the next volume

I've had to use Play a bit recently - Amazon didn't have Hercules 2, and cancelled my order for Iron Fist 4

I generally find play better on price for most comics. Which is very odd when you think about it.

What's their packing like for trades? If they just shove them in a jiffy bag like their toys I won't bother.

They pack them in a cardboard sleeve, at least the last time I bought off them.

In other news, reading through Essential Thor 4. You can really see a difference in the art when Bill Everett is inking over Jack. I'm guessing Kirby's pencils were getting pretty light by that point.

My copy of Essential Marvel Two In one v3 has just arrived from Amazon UK. Anyone else got a copy ? Cos mine's got a misprint and I want to know if they're all like that.
9 pages into the story of issue 66 (Serpent Crown pt3 so not like one of the better or important stories in the book) it suddenly jumps to the first story page of issue 69.
Solitary misprit or are the whole lot like it ?

I liked the early Knights of Pendragon, but not when it turned into a more generic superhero comic
