Big day according to the Diamond Shipping lists. Essential Avengers 7 is published. Which is good anyway but it's a bit of a landmark for me. I'll tell you why when i get it (Amazon say dispatched 20/01/10 and I'm counting the days already.
In other news I'm expecting a new Incredible Hercules volume.

Incredible Hercules is easily the best thing Marvel are publishing at the moment, everyone should be reading it!

Power Pack Classic V1 I'd got some of the issues in this volume already but it was nice - finally 25+ years later - to fill in the gaps. The first five issues are basically set up - lots of space action - then we get a 3 issue guest stint by Spider Man, Cloak & Dagger and the superb Dragon Man followed by 2 issues of Marrina (from Alpha Flight) in a follow up to a MTU annual that I bet nobody has read. Finally 5 - 4 individual and one group - MU Deluxe entries.
Despite it being about kids - Jack is especially annoying - it's a decent enough read. Another volume is on the runway and I'm hoping to read through to 25 (which I've got in my boxes somewhere)

Yep, City Link is the offending company here too. I'm trying to find somewhere on amazon where I can email them to let them know their choice of courier has lost a long-term customer. That you can't pick up your parcels in the Scottish (and now Welsh) capitals is mind-staggering. -Ralph I found the number for them and called thge automated line (no option to speak to a human) asking the package be sent back to sender. I see from online tracking that it's still in their depo. Fuck sakes. -Ralph

Fuck sakes. I got through to a human being (in office hours) on 08444 930 930. Had to sit through a few minutes of music first, but at least it didn't give me automated options. But now according to www.city-link.co.uk/index.html their customer service centre is closed due to weather. It also says the 'Track Your Parcel' system is showing incorrect info. Due to weather. Marvel TPB listings available into July: PaperbackHarbackHighlightsEssential FFv8: SOLD ! Avengers: Vision & Scarlet Witch - A Year In The Life: I think this is the second 12 issue LS published in the 80s. There's a couple of double issues in here plus they really aught to be reprinting West Coast Avengers (ongoing) 1&2 as the first two issues of each series heavily crossover. In which case this makes it a pretty decent package and the 3rd WCA related trade this year (after the WCA HC and Iron Man: Iron Monger HC)

I see from online tracking that it's still in their depo. Fuck sakes. -Ralph I contacted Amazon and received this perfectly reasonable response: 'Dear Customer Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk. I’m sorry to hear that your experience with our carrier Citylink wasn’t a pleasant one and thank you for writing and bringing this to our attention. I reviewed your email and can understand your concerns in receiving the order sent by Citylink. I can understand that they have left a card when you were available to receive the order and now ask you to collect the item from their depot. We take full responsibility for the delivery of our goods from start to finish and take complaints of this nature very seriously. We replace any items lost or damaged during delivery at a cost to ourselves and monitor our carriers very closely. I realise this incident reflects negatively upon Amazon.co.uk and the feedback that you have provided will be used in reviewing the service provided by Citylink. I can understand that you have refused the order and asked Citylink to return the goods back to us. I have also contacted city link personally to return the order back to us and so the order cost will be refunded as soon as the order is returned back to our fulfillment center and is processed. On the date the refund is completed, we'll send you an e-mail message confirming the date, amount and payment details. Completed refunds information can also be viewed when you visit Your Account. Under "Orders" click the "View Recent and Open Orders" button, and sign in with your e-mail address and password. The refund information will be visible at the bottom of the relevant order's summary page. In addition to our large selection of goods, one of the benefits we'd like to offer our customers is convenience, and I realise that we have not met that standard in this case. I hope that you will give us another opportunity to prove the quality of our service to you in the future. Currently, we do not have the ability to assign certain carriers to a specific customer or address but will continue working with all of our carriers to drive improvements for our customers. However, the issues that you have mentioned will be forwarded to the appropriate department for consideration. We truly value this kind of feedback, as it helps us continue to improve our website and provide a better service to our customers. Thank you again for your comments and thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk. Did we answer your question?' I got my books from the Marketplace, hurray! -Ralph

Essential Avengers 7 contains Avengers 141-163, Annual #6, and Super-Villain Team-Up #9. I said this volume represented a milestone for me. Now I've read Avengers 150-153 in this trade, I have read every issue of the Avegers between 1 and about 320 when Bob "I can't write for toffee" Harras took over. (I think annuals 8&9 may still be outstanding too) One comment about the trade dress - it's the first E Avengers in the new Essential trade dress forrmat but they've kept the older Avengers logo instead of switching to the more famous one angular one. As with E X-Factor 3 - which still uses the X-Factor logo used on just the first 9 issues - a change of design format is an ideal oppotunity to upgrade the logo. The Dreaded Deadline Doom affect issues in this trade - The Serpent Crown breaks in the middle for a 2 part fill in (not that many issues after the reprint of the Beast issues as shown in E Avengers 6), then 150 is mostly a reprint of Avengers 16 (with a small ammount of new material) - I suspect this isn't planned and that 151 was intended as a part of 150. Oddly the cover to this compilation comesfrom one of the fill in issues instead of one of the regular ones. Serpent Crown didn't really float my boat before - a little better this time round but for me the highlights of the book start after that. This is of course the volume that brings Wonder Man back and the issues I hadn't read all relate to that - his actual resurection and coming to his senses all occur off panel (in 151 and GS/Annual 6) It's nice to see his friend the Beast right there at the very start. And it's the point when Wonder Man comes back that the book really starts working for me, the issues from this point flow well - especially once Shooter is on board as the writer and the Avengers feel like the premier super team in the Marvel Universe. Lots of Perez art throughout this volume - Perez looks great in B&W - along with some others, Sal Buscema does a couple of good fill in issues introducing Graviton. The final few Perez issues in this book really see his art kick into top gear and start the Bride of Ultron story which introduces Jocasta. Several issues in this volume have been traded before: 141-144 b& 147-149 were in the Serpent Crown colour trade but as per Celestial Madonna the colour used there is useless (see the discussion for Essential Avengers 6). 154-156 are in Essential Super Villain Team-Up - there's an issue of SVTU in this volume - and 163 is in colour in Champions Classic v2. And (of course) issues 159 onwards appear in UKvision in Marvel Superheroes, hence how I've read them before ! I've been looking forward to this book for ages so I could complete my story run and it doesn't disappoint. If you have a remote interest in the Avengers then buy this book. I'm now looking forward to E Avengers 8 which - by my reckoning - should be Avengers 164-186 (or possibly 7), Annual 7 & possible Marvel Two In One Annual 2. Now that will be Best Trade Ever.

Captain America: Road to Reborn (Brubaker v10): a bit of a bitty volume lacking the coherent narative of previous Brubaker Cap trades. All of it vaguely celebratory stuff, but the narative is onlt advanced really be the Sharon story in 49 - great to see Peggy again, lovely stuff with her - and the main tale in 600. A nice Bucky birthday flashback issue in 50, some decent back up stuff in 600 - a Patriot/Nomad story and a Bernie Rosenthal story - Steve's girlfriend when I first read Cap in the 290s - plus a Gene Colan WWII Flashbacki story in 601.
Unfortunately it's easily the weakest of the Brubaker volumes, lacking the really stunning tale that the previous single issues volume had - the Winter Soldier tale in the Civil War Volume (Brubaker 5) Nevertheless it's still better than most stuff out there.
