Invincible Iron Man Volume 4: Stark Disassembled: well...... not as good as the preceeding two trades. Stark spends most of the book in a coma having odd dreams while the outside well does their best to either bring him back or kill him. I'll give it a another read but just didn't float my boat like the previous volume did. Great bits were Hill & Potts finding out that they'd both slept with Stark recently. The ending - with the question of "how long ago was the backup of Stark's mind taken?" cleans the character up somewhat from the events of the last few years as you see Tony reading what happened in Civil War and being horrified by what he did.
I have a theory. I think I don't like playboy millionaire Tony Stark that much. My fave Iron Man stories both involve him being brought down to earth (the drink story of 160-200 and World's Most Wanted) When he starts being put back together I loose interest......

Essential Defenders 5 now....

Essential Defenders v5: Wall to wall Demons I'm afraid so I really didn't get on with this volume objecting as I do to Occult content. You expect a little bit when you read a title with Doctor Strange involved but this was nothing but Demons for nearly 20 issues. The only chink of light is towards the end when The Beast shows up (I cheered just like I cheered when he turned up in the Avengers v7. We then get a crossover with the DeMattis also written Captain America that I read the cap part of 25+ years ago. Finally found out how it finished.
There's just 20 issues of the original Defenders run left and I have these plus the New Defenders that follow in the back issue box upstairs. Time to start on that run which I'd been holding for when this tradecame out.

Currently making my way through the second volume of ye olde Captain Britain. It's really bad stuff. I had previously read some of the issues that would have been in volume 1 but jings if anything the run got worse as it went on! Hmmmm, CB wasn't that great before Davis and co arrived, was it? Still, it cost me nowt as it was from the library.

No it wasn't.
There's a volume 3 which bridges the bad stuff and Davis which includes the Claremont/Byrne MTU issues

Batman & Robin Deluxe HC - well worth the money. The Philip Tan stuff isn't a patch on Frank Quitely but the backmatter helps soften the blow of the drop in quality of the art from issue 4 onwards.

Is DC still using the rather thin paper for their HC trades?

It's thin but feels a bit more substantial than others I've perused.

The shitty paper DC want to use on high-end collections continues with the Alan Moore Swmap Thing volumes. DC: GET A FUCKING GRIP.

When asked at a con, DC replied something along the lines of they want them to feel like thre original issues, missing the point spectacularly, and annoying folk who had paid $75 for the Death of Superman Omnibus with shitty paper.

I don't want my expensive trades to tear at the drop of a hat

My realm of Kings HC (ordered when it was hideously mispriced at Amazon) has just showed. I expect this to be a "one read and then on eBay's altar" job

Surely if there is anything we have learned from Lovecraft it is that rites are to be worried about - don't they always lead to madness, death or shoggoths? :-) Karl

I'm on day 2 of reading Secret Wars II and I'm on page 605. I feel despair. -Ralph The reading has slowed as I've went on. The SWII storyline is now finished. What a cosmic turd of an ending. Just the Secret Wars 3 storyline in FF and the Quasar epilogue to go. Sigh. -Ralph
