Invincible Iron Man Volume 4: Stark Disassembled: well...... not as good as the preceeding two trades. Stark spends most of the book in a coma having odd dreams while the outside well does their best to either bring him back or kill him. I'll give it a another read but just didn't float my boat like the previous volume did. Great bits were Hill & Potts finding out that they'd both slept with Stark recently. The ending - with the question of "how long ago was the backup of Stark's mind taken?" cleans the character up somewhat from the events of the last few years as you see Tony reading what happened in Civil War and being horrified by what he did. I have a theory. I think I don't like playboy millionaire Tony Stark that much. My fave Iron Man stories both involve him being brought down to earth (the drink story of 160-200 and World's Most Wanted) When he starts being put back together I loose interest...... The theory was born out by Iron Man v5: Stark Resilient as we watch Stark try to rebuild his company, hardly putting the suit on and not getting into any fights at all. Boring. The moments where Peppa and Hill find out he can't remember sleeping with them are great. Nice link between the Hammer girls and Stane. I'll give it onne more volume on the strength of volumes 2 & 3, but this nearly finds itself on the "straight to eBay" pile.

Picked up Superman: Earth One today. It's solid but not the great tale it was hyped to be. Some nice and slight revisions to the Superman origin. Krypton was destroyed by outside forces, from another planet in the Kryptonian solar system. A shadowy figure orchestrated it. My money is on Zod. The lead villain in the book stepped straight out of 90's comics and no mistake. The artist was the wrong choice for the book in my opinion. Shane Davis is a good artist but wouldn't have been my pick. An artist with a cleaner line such as John Cassady or Alan Davis would have been a much better fit. The presentation of the book is very nice, and the hardcover format is always appealing. Not sure if I will pick up the second volume but I will be inclined to get the Batman: Earth One book. Andy

It's nowhere near the DC Standards of poorness, it's just a grade rougher than what I'm used to with Marvel. Take a copy of this (or Generation X classic v1 which was the same) and run your hand over the page. Compare it to, say, Invincible Iron Man v5 and you'll feel a difference.

The Doctor Doom story in particular is amazing.
Thanks to ebay the collected edition of the first 5 TMNT comics from Image arrived. Really enjoyed the series and wish it had all been collected.

The Mantoltainment radar has detected Essential Web of Spiderman 1 on the runway for September and espied the great man's name on the credits......
E Web ? Finish MTU and get ASM & PPtSSM to the right point first.

Thing Classic v1 (Collects Thing(1983) 1-10) arrived this week.
Superb. Open with two non super hero tales focusing on the Thing's background - is this the first time we find out he's actually *FROM* Yancy Street?
Lockjaw then guest stars for 2 tales, the first of which is over whether to Terrigen Quicksilver & Crystal's child Luna or not, as we discover Lockjaw is himself a Terriugenated Inhuman.
Then a superb 2 parter as the Thing fights first a series of possessed super heroes then the puppet master in his own mind. This later issue (6) was in the first set of comics my Dad brought me home from work and it's cover adorns this trade. The fight within is set against a black backdrop which makes it oddly similar to the Whiteout issue of Alpha Flight published the next month. Byrne wrote both. That's as far as I've got but we've got a superb 2 parter with a possessed Thing dressed as a Roman soldier to come followed by a retell of the FF Origin as Ben is taken to the Secret Wars.
Best Trade so far this year. Buy it. If you do there's more chance of a v2 which would be Rocky Grim Space Ranger v1 (12 parts of that in the Thing, plus 1 in FF, his return to Earth in the FF and a epilogue in the Thing) means there's more material than they'll fit in one volume.
X-Force: A Force to be Reckoned With is here and Power Pack Classic v3 is en route.
Happy Days.

Power Pack Classic v3 (collectes #18-26 & Thor #363) Finally Phil has read the issues leading up to 25, which he's owned for years. Rather good it is too, although there's an annoying page in the wrong order incident in the book. It does seem as iof they're trying to tidy things up so I wonder if word came down that Power Pack the comic was to die in the run up to New Universe and then the powers that be changed their minds?
Most of us have #27 collected elsewhere (which I could not find for love nor money at the time) but my memory has it that the title goes down the toilet from this point.

Thor: The Mighty Avenger v2 dropped through the door this morning. (A copy for me and one for Ralph).
Excellent stuff. Sad that the book got cancelled when it was one of the best written Thor books in ages, but then Roger Langridge is no slouch as Boom's Muppet comics can attest to and was gorgeously drawn by Chris Samnee.
A couple of classic Stan and Jack tales thrown to round the page count up, one featuring Loki, and the other Zarrko the man from Tomorrow. Perhaps he may have featured in future issues. Sadly we will never know.

The FCBD issue isn't out yet. It's effectively #9.
Alas, the series was canned before the first trade was out.
