I do remember really enjoying Ultron Unlimited, but did find the Busiek / Perez run traded heavily on past glories however well it was done.

Marvel June solicitations are out; not a huge amount in the collections catching my eye this time round: www.bleedingcool.com/2012/03/16/those-marvel-solicitations-for-june-2012/Mostly: MMW IRON FIST HC VOL 02 $59.99 (W) Chris Claremont (A/CA) John Byrne and: NICK FURY CLASSIC TP VOL 01 AGENT OF SHIELD $34.99 (W) Bob Harras & Various (A) Bob Hall & Various (CA) Bob Hall intrigues me a little. I don't know anything about the run, but Hall's a good artist and I enjoyed what I read of Harras' Avengers.

Saw the new Essential X-Men in my LCS today. Some very dodgy repro on the Extinction Agenda issues in it, similar to that seen in the last Wolverine volume

West Coast Avengers: Lost in Space & Time is in the post to me.
Everyone needs to read this.
Strikeforce Morituri v2: fab stuff again. The change of creative team half way though puts a very different slant on it. I'll say no more because I know some of you haven't reasd and have been waiting 20+ years to.

Alongside TF:UK Classics vol 2, the Elektra Assassin Marvel Premiere Classic HC arrived today. Looks good, I look forward to a read this weekend.
It's the Book Depository which has been seeing me right lately - even though I had the TF one on preorder on Amazon from pretty much the day it was available to order, it was out of stock and expected to ship in four weeks where BD had it ready to go. Elektra Assassin was never available on Amazon and has only now turned up as a Used and New title.
In cheap remnant book shop news, not much shifting at Greenwich Book Time, but I did pick up the Hobgoblin Lives trade for £4. I suppose I really ought to read The Origin of the Hobgoblin first though.

Iron Man v8: Unfixable: Agggggh! it pulls the same trick the latest Captain America volume does and half way through says "continued in Fear Itself". What's worse is the story up until that point hasn't been any good as a dying Doc Ock seeks to settle a (conjured out of thin air) old score with Stark. Horrible, still at least the back up material after that looks good.
Essential X-Men 10: Jim Lee art ! woo! Say what you like about the man now but Lee's Uncanny X-Men run is dynamite and like Liefield on New Mutants really gives the title a shot in the arm.
But I'm not happy with this trade. At all.
Some of it isn't the Trade's fault: I already have the Days of Future Present crossover in Trades and b&w in the recent E X-Factor. I also had X-Tinction Agenda in trades as well as two of the other issues. So in terms of adding new material to my collection there's just 3 new issues for me here, the child Storm/introducing Gambit story. So that's affected my appreciation of the trade on the value for money front.
What is a more inherent problem is the repro on the 9 X-Tinction Agenda issues. We moaned about repro in Essentials before: the last Wolverine volume and X-Factor issues 13 & 14 spring to mind. The same problem exists here, the issues looks scanned and thus are reproduced in levels of shade instead of the crisp line art throughout the rest of the book.
I worry for the remainder of the Lee issues in v11 and the Portacio in the next Essential X-Factor.

Currently working my way through the first two trades of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol. A very strange mixture of mysticism, architectural theory and apparently stream of conciousness bonkersism. On the other hand, if you want to do something with the idea that the Doom Patrol are made special not by their powers, but by their wounds then the only way to do it is to turn the strangeness of their world up to eleven and just run with it.
The inside of Grant Morrison's psyche may not be somewhere I'd want to live, but it is a fascinating place to be a tourist.

Secret Warriors v6: Wheels Within Wheels: arrived today. Read straight through. WTF was that about? But in a good way. Previous volumes, plus the first SHIELD one are now on the bed as I attempt to work out who's who and what's what. Looks like a storming end to the series but may need some while to get my head round it. Decent Hickman stuff, well worth a read, And there's an Omnibus due

Strikeforce: Morituri vol 1 just landed on my desk. I shall be taking this to the canteen with me at lunch.
Finished West Coast Avengers: Family Ties at the weekend; what a marvelously fun comic this is! Glad to have at least 3 more HC volumes ahead of me.

Captain America: Death of the Red Skull (collecting Captain America 290-301) The dying Red Skull's Masterplan to avenge himself on Captain America. It's 83/4 comics so you know it's going to be good, even though it's the Cap story where DeMattis fell out with editor Mark Grunewold and refused to write the end. The slight oddity in here is Cap 291, obviously a fill in issue. But it's Mantlo filling in so that's good but since it has no connection to the rest of the story I'm not sure why it's here.
Cap 291 was my first Cap issue in one of the batches of comics my dad brought me home. The same month I read Thor 341, Hulk 293, ASM 250, New Mutants 13, Daredevil 204, Iron Man 180, Power Man 103 & Rom 52

I am currently working my way through Marvel Two-in-one Vol3. Featuring the amazing saga of Project: Pegasus - where what feels like half the villians in the Marvel Universe cue up to be punched by The Thing and Bill Foster. A bit of a mixed bag - some of the stories are good, some are a bit weak, but all are enlivened by the presence of the ever-lovin' blue eyed thing.
Also I have been reading John Wagner and Mike Western's "Darkie's Mob" their Burma war strip from Battle. It is fair to say that John Wagner has always liked getting the violence into comics he has been writing. This is in many places more brutal than Dredd, partly because it is set in a real-world millieu. Honestly not sure if I am going to finish it, it is making for somewhat uncomfortable reading in places - which is part of the point that the story is making right enough, but still....

It's worth persevering with. -Ralph I think I shall soldier on with it. I think part of the problem is that I haven't been in quite the right frame of mind for it this past week or so. It is a library loaner so I shall hang onto it and take another run at it at the start of next week. And yes, the art in EMTIO vol 3 is fantastic. I only picked it up because it was cheap in The Works and I hadn't read any MTIO. I was very pleasantly surprised by the contributor list. Karl
