Must get to the Lewisham The Works come Saturday (it has desperately inconvenient weekday opening hours), certainly up for a Hercules hardcover at that price, loved that series.
I had a chance to pop in to London FP this evening after a successful cheese shop at Neal's Yard, they've put loads more stuff out in their sale. Not quite as bargainous as The Works, but I did pick up some Power Pack Classic volumes at about 1/3 original price.

Found the Hercules HC at The Works today, along with the Simonson / Buscema Balder the Brave HC and the Ellis / Yu Wolverine run.
It was all a bit scattered around the shop - initially it looked disappointingly like they'd just got a bunch of WWH / Secret Invasion-era softcovers and a pile of Essential Dazzler vol 2 (oh, and a load of Ultimatum-related tosh), but a wander round revealed stacks of Premier Classic HCs being used to prop up unrelated books. Not a lot of choice - just 4 or 5 titles - but some welcome bargains.

It seems about twice a year The Works get a big load of Marvel stuff in. There are dribs and drabs of other stuff throughout the year.

re-read Green Lantern - The Road Back last night - the first 8 issues of the 1990 series of GL with Hal as an older guy, having been a ring slinger for fifteen years. Forgot how much I enjoyed it and how much more interesting Hal was then.

A good haul at the London Comic Mart today, though the Kieran Gillen queue was too long for me. There's a great stall where they sell off new and sealed collections (mostly Marvel) for surprisingly low prices, though you need to get to it early. Anyway:
Marvel Masterworks Iron Man vol 5 HC for £12.50 (All Lee / Colan) West Coast Avengers: Darker than Scarlett £2.99 X-Men: Vignettes for £3.50 (collection of the short back ups from X-Men Classic by Claremont and Bolton) X-Men vs the Fantastic Four HC for £3.99

Avengers: The Once and Future Kang dropped through the letter box today. Oh yeah. Stern Avengers, you cannot go wrong and the Kang story which makes up the middle of this volume is top notch. But the end of it connects up with Under Siege.... which in turn connects to Assault on Olympus which will link to Heavy Metal War
Look at it:
The Once & Future Kang 262-269 Under Siege 270-277 Assault on Olympus 278-285 Heavy Metal Wars 286- ? ? ?
That's the last 25 issues of the Stern run reprinted. The first few are in Trial of Yellowjacket. Here's hoping the rest will show especially the Vision story and the Terminus/Firelord/Skrulls/Nebula SWII crossover.
You'll read far worse trades than this this year.

You might say Marvel saw me coming....
But I can't resist their Classic X-Trades with added material.
On the door mat was X-Men: Fall of the Mutants v1. Yup that's right the previous Fall of the X-Men (X-Men 225-227, New Mutant 59-61 & X-Factor 24-26) has been split in two. In this volume we get the existing X-Men & New Mutants issues plus the run ups, so UXM 220-224 and NM 55-58 join the existing ones as does Hulk 340 aka Wot the X-Men did on the way to Dallas. The New Mutants run handily joins onto the end of the last NM Classics trade while there's a gap of five issues between the end of the NEW Mutant Massacre trade and this one for the X-Men...... But I smell those, both X-Men vs LS and Wolverine vs Spider Man getting traded together perhaps finally confirming which of the VS limited series comes first. (It's Avengers even though it was published after!)
V2's due in a few months which is X-Factors issues, a long lead up from the Simonsons and all the oddd tie in issues that have never been reprinted in floppy before
Mutant Massacre should be here in a day or two

I do wish Marvel would stop retrading things, and just bring older volumes back into print and collect stuff that hasn't yet been collected.
Like Guardians of the Galaxy by Jim Valentino...

Another big drop of clearanced trades in The Works, amusingly dumped in front of the last lot. Mostly runs of the newer Hercules, Ultimate X-Men and random Marvel stuff.

Mutant Massacre should be here in a day or two And is. The gains here are less obvious than in the Fall of the Mutants volume. We do get an extra isssue of Uncanny X-Men - 214 - which details the X-Men confronting the last Marauder Malice who's possessed Dazzler. Since this is Barry Windsor Smith drawn I'm not going to say no to it. Daredevil 238 should have been in Mutant Massacre compilations from the start though. While not essential to the story it has got a battle Sabretooth is involved in during the massacre within it. I'm less enamoured that X-Factor 8 hasn't been included in this volume as it's the first half of the story presented in 9 (which is) and maybe 12 as well. There's a small ammount of bonus material thankfully including the map used to advertise the event showing which issue flows into which. Better than before, but not as essential an upgrade as the Fall of the Mutants volumes

To be honest I'm not sure how I relate to Fall of the Mutants now. Yes it represents a major step in my comic buying life because from here on I bought X-Men regularly (I had been buying just X-Factor) and also picked up Thor while Simonson was still writing it. (There's a general expansion of my comic buying at this point <looks at Marvel's November 1986 output> Avengers through Unde Siege, West Coast Avengers, New Mutants Groo, Marvel Universe, US Transformers and New Universe titles were all picked up around that point) But looking back on it now Mutant Massacre marks the end of the core nucleus of the X-Men team that's been there for years, most since Giant Size 1. Shadowcat, Nightcrawler and Colossus are all injured during the story and it's reprecussions start Magneto on the path back to villainy and take the X-Men away from their home base. And then there's the difficulty positioning X-Men Annual 10 during it (in the middle UXM 210 by my reckoning)

Fall is one of those stories I never read at the time - didn't discover US comics where available where I moved to in Scotland fo quite a while so I didn't come back in to the X-Franchise until Inferno. So there will always be a part of me that feels like Fall is an archeological discovery from the Great Interregnum. But then, I know I will never be able to objectively assess Inferno, because of its position as where I went back into the fold.

It is Claremont breaking up the band in order to bring them back together at some point. Although it's interesting that so many of the changes happened for other reasons, such as Kurt and Kitty ending up in Excalibur, simply because Alan Davis turned down the job on the X-Men as he didn't feel ready for it, and obviously he had plans down the line which were never fully realised.
It's a shame they brought Magneto back after X-Men#3 as it was a good finale for him.
Mind you it's a shame they brought the Professor back and crippled him again. It would have been better to either never bring him back, leave him out there in space or off him, or have him do something else than lead teams who had already outgrown him.

Can't find any traces of it on the shipping lists or on eBay
