I gave up on the Brubaker Cap run about the time of his return; the return itself wasn't all that great and the series just seemed to flounder in the aftermath. I was already starting find it was getting a bit formulaic before then and had offloaded all my collections on eBay as they didn't feel like something to reread. But yes, much kudos for successfully bringing back Bucky.

Brubaker's Cap run was fab up until 'Return', which was...not good (not helped by shit storytelling from Hitch). Thereafter it floundered and I lost interest.

In the past week I have finished Nobody Can Stop the Juggernaut and Generation X Classic vol. 1, both quite excellent in their different ways.
Juggernaut was one of those stories I'd so often heard about to the point where I felt I actually knew it, without ever having read it and it's great to catch up on that along with some classic Stern / JRJR issues in the run up to it. Lovely stuff all round; in tone I found it quite like post-reboot ASM when it was under the rotating creative teams, with multiple possible love interests for Peter, him being typically down on his luck and encountering his traditional rogue's gallery. Nice to know there are some more Stern Spidey volumes in the works.
Generation X was a title I only read a single issue of back in the 90s as it was so hard to get hold of where I lived and so much wanted to read more of at the time. It's almost certainly the best I've read from Lobdell, he put together quite a compellingly odd cast with an interesting set-up and Bachalo's art sells it perfectly. I also quite enjoyed the Phalanx Covenant X-issues by Nicieza / Kubert and Lobdell / Madureira which lead into it. Every time I actually get to reading some 90s X-stuff it's better than I expected.

Received "Avengers Versus Thanos" for my Birthday (thank you Mr T). Packed full of Jim Starlin goodness, Captain Marvel, Adam Warlock, Thanos Of Titan. I am rationing out my first readthrough at an issue a day so as to savour it. So far it is going rather well - marvelously bonkers stories with truly superb momentum.

Fans of oversized Marvel UKovision comics might like to know that there's a Bookazine (yes like that Dalek special we all hunted for) available in WHS of Iron Man: The Five Nightmares. I may have to get me one to support the oversized reprinting cause..... Oooooo a thought: This is probably an Iron Man III tie in. A Bookazine version of the Claremont/Milelr Wolverine to go with that Movie would be a must have Seen a Wolverine one as well now: Return of the Native. Zero publicity in the Panini monthly reprints for them!

Got a trip up to WH Smith's today, I might have to pick them up, I am sure I'd seen the Iron Man one in there already.

Was diverted from this by the fact that the first ten issues of Spider-Man 2099 were in a nice shiny new trade and that had to be picked up.

Amongst the items on my doormat when I arrived home from the smoke was the Cornell Wolverine v1 Trade. Lovely stuff, especially the Alan Davis drawn first four issues, and a proper story to boot. I'll be back for volume 2.

The 80's rocket Racoon has been reprinted. Saw it today.. It's published as a regular size comic and doesn't have a spine.

Saw a trade today which I think was called Infinity Gauntlet Aftermath (?). Had the first 6 issues of Warlock and the Infinity Watch and some Silver Surfer issues and odds and sods. It did tempt me.

I received Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment today, a much longed-for replacement for the GN that my parents chucked out in a purge during one of their more religious phases. Also includes a related story plus an unrelated Mantlo / Mignola Namor story from Marvel Fanfare, some pinups and a Marvel Age piece on the story by Sanderson.
Also the latest Panini X-Men pocket book collecting X-Men/Alpha Flight and UXM 192-194. Some beautiful art in there from Smith and JRJR. Glad to see the collections back after they put them on hold to collect The Hidden Years for over a year.

Astrodog is a dog who has a rocket ship and a spacesuit, she is on a mission to locate an edible Dog Star in outer space.
Astrodog is also a webcomic by a gentleman called Paul Harrison-Davies which is now available from the author in a print edition. I first got introduced to Astro-dog by one of our number here and fell in love with it immediately. It has a wonderfully cartoony art-style and some absolutely wonderful colouring. It is also, genuinely, an all-ages book. It is something I could give to a child without hesitation, but which also has such an infectious sense of fun that it is enjoyable by adults - heck, I could give this to my mum (after a short course on how to comprehend the layout of a comic) and I think she might get something out of it. The format the creator has chosen is marvelous - it is almost wordless (barring a few sound effects and some clever integration of captioning into the body of the story), letting the art tell the story. It may be a one-man band operation, but there is a sense of joy here that is missing from so many mainstream comics. Great stuff.

There seem to be new waves of Marvel collections fetching up in the discount bookshops round this way. Just picked up the Warren Ellis Secret Avengers (£5), Bride of Ultron Classic Prem HC (£7) and Criminal Deluxe Edition HC (£11, RRP £38!). There are batches of Essentials and those odd Marvel Firsts collections, too.
They also had the Doom 2099 collection which I'm currently near finishing, though it's so good I do not regret paying full price just a couple of months ago.
