Arrived. There's an X-Men Unlimited with Alpha Flight in which I hadn't read before and it's the issue where Heather gives birth!

I took a break from Daredevil: Root of Evil and read the second volume of Ostrander's Suicide Squad; excellent series, glad volume 3 is already on my read pile! Luke McDonnell's art is tremendous, I'm always surprised by how he never seems to be considered an a-list talent of that period. There's also some early Erik Larsen and Rob Liefeld art in there.
Then I went back into the DD epic, and it does get better after the awful Elektra mini. The Chichester "Alan Smithee" issues are quite well done, though the central plot makes no sense at all if you think about it for more than a second _and_ centres on a massive coincidence. Keith Pollard on art, and it may be the best Pollard art I've seen; I don't usually care for his work at all.
Then there's a stand-alone Warren Ellis issue which is laying the groundwork for going back to a more classic status quo, and a Dematteis issue with Ron Wagner on art which is part 2 of the Over the Edge crossover with Fury and the Punisher, but is actually pretty good. Looking forwards to the next volume in a couple of months with the Dematteis and Kesel runs.

Finally there is an Aliens trade paperback of the first three minis without the stupid renaming of Newt, Ripley and Hicks.
Of course I did my duty. Along with the collection of Evan Dorkin's excellent Milk and Cheese, Superman by Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr.

Just picked up the collection of Mister Miracle by Tom King and Mitch Gerads.
Damn that was a good series. From what I've read of Tom King's work - Omega Men, The Vision he is the master of the 12 issue maxi-series.
Not read his Batman work so can't comment on that.

don't suppose any of you bought the Mighty Avengers Complete Collection, or can find one in the shops? Is the last page of 33, with Pym identifying Loki, swapped with one of Quicksilver earlier in the issue?

Picked up a stack of heavily discounted DC collections the other day, and have just read Starlin and Mignola's Cosmic Odyssey for the first time. I'd never even heard of it until now!
The story and writing aren't bad, though he definitely does his best work at Marvel, but Mignola's art is absolutely wonderful, and well served by an oversized deluxe HC. I doubt I'll read it again, but will be keeping it around to pick up and gawp at from time to time. Nice to discover things like this.

It's cracking stuff, and yes I would agree Jim's best work was with Marvel.
Speaking of Jim - I picked up the latest HC Infinity OGN with art by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer. Lovely stuff and does read very much like Jim is writing his farewell to Marvel.

I do so love Jim on Warlock/Thanos et al.
I also love how Adam is not the most heroic of characters at times given what he has to do.

Now have just finished the John Byrne's Wonder Woman vol. 1 HC. I... enjoyed this a lot? It does not have a good rep, but as I've never been all that invested in Wonder Woman and have not read the Perez run prior to this I figured I could handle Byrne doing his usual "must turn everything upside down!" thing, and it's really fine. A lot of fun, even.
Based on the credits he does literally everything but the colours, and I like his looser, sketchier style of this period. There are some lovely splash pages.
It isn't a very plot-heavy book, the writing seems more intended to drive visual spectacle, and with what he's doing there I am totally fine with that (in fact, I just ordered vol. 2 fro m Books etc.)

We thus return to the matter of which X-Men issues are missing in colour trades. We're not interested in oversized HCs or pocket book here, though I'd be interested to know if any of the missing issues have been collected - I know the HC Masterworks are up to 200 now. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?seriesid=3987&page=gallery1-110 are in Epic Collections 94-140, annuals 3 & 4 are in the Paperback Masterworks 138-143 are in Days of Future Present 144-152, annual 5, are untraded.153 is in X-Men Visionaries:Chris Claremont 154-158 are in Starjammers 159 - the vs Dracula issue - is not traded160 is in Magik 161-167 are in Starjammers Annual 6 - also vs Dracula - is not traded167-176 are From The Ashes Annual 7 & 177-185 are not traded186 is in X-Men Visionaries:Chris Claremont 187-188 are not traded189-198 & Annual 8 are in X-Men Epic 12 The Gift Annual 9 is in Asgardian Wars 199-209 & Annual 10 are in Ghosts 210-214 are in Mutants Massacre 215-219 & Annual 11 are not traded220-227 are in Fall of the Mutants 228-231 & Annual 12 are not traded232-234 are in X-Men Vs. the Brood 235-238 are in X-Tinction Agenda 239-240 are in Inferno v1 241-243 are in Inferno v2 244-245 in in X-Men:Road Trippin' 246-247 & Annual 13 are not traded248-267 are in Epic 17 Dissolution and Rebirth 268-269 are in X-Men Visionaries:Jim Lee Annual 14 is in Day of Future Present and FF Epic 17 All In The Family 270-272 are in X-Tinction Agenda 273-277 are in X-Men:Crossroads & X-Men Visionaries:Jim Lee 278-280 & Annual 15 are in X-Men Epic 19 Mutant Genesis 281-293 are in The Coming of Bishop (2016) Annual 16 is not traded294-297 are in X-Cutioners Song (2016) 298-300 is in Fatal Attractions 2016 301-302 are not tradedAnnual 17 is in X-Men Danger Room Battle Archives 303-304 is in Fatal Attractions 2016 305-306 are in Milestones: Phalanx Covenant 307 is in Bloodties 308-310 are in The Wedding of Cyclops & Phoenix 311 is untraded 312-313 are in Milestones: Phalanx Covenant 314-315 & Annual 18 are not traded 316-317 are in Milestones: Phalanx Covenant 318 is in Generation X Classic 1 319-321 are in Age of Apocalypse Prelude Annual 95 is not traded322-325 are in Road to Onslaught 1 326-329 are in Road to Onslaught 2 330-332 are in Road to Onslaught 3 333-335 are in Complete Onslaught Epic 1 336 is in Complete Onslaught Epic 4 337 is in Complete Onslaught Epic 5 Annual 96 is not traded338 - 340 is in Onslaught Aftermath 341-350 is in The Trial of Gambit -1 is not traded351 - 359 is in X-Men Blue 0 Reunion Uncanny X-Men/Fantastic Four '98 #1 is not traded360 - 365 is inHunt for Professor Xavier 366-371 is in Magneto War 372-375 is in The Shattering 376-377 is in Vs. In a move that will please many, I've ended up costing myself money When I wrote the list of UXM issues traded last week I did some checking and discovered that, in addition to the upcoming Eve for Extinction hardcover, there had been a softcover version. What's worse is I discovered that I had owned it at some point, and another X-Men book I now couldn't find: En route: CW Frontline 1 & 2, X-Men Death of the Dream, XM Eve of Destruction & XM Poptopia I'm assuming Death of the Dream is Dream's End. New copies of Eve of Destruction, Dream's End & Powerless ordered. I can only assume I got shot of them because I had the issues in Paninivision.

Four trades delivered today Fantastic Four Spider-Man Classic is a collection of their Team Ups including a few MTU issues I didn't have in trades, including the Mr Fantastic story I read in my first few Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. It's an old volume I grabbed cheap off ebay but since I have the Iron Man MTU volume, and will probably buy the Black Widow, I wanted this as well. New X-Men Companion Selection of X-Men Unlimited from around the time of Morrison's New X-Men. A quick glance makes me think I might not have made a great choice here. Havok & Wolverine: Meltdown Bought the issues when they came out, not read since, not owned for donkeys years. Might prove interesting. X-Men Epic Collection 4: It's Always Darkest Before DawnBeen waiting for this, it's the "what the X-Men did between their original series ending and New X-Men" Some was in Essential Classic X-Men 4, others were in other Essential volumes so the majority of this volume I've not read colour copies of and a few issues I've not read at all. X-MEN (1963) 67-93, ANNUAL (1970) 1-2 AMAZING ADVENTURES (1970) 11-17 - read in B&W in Essential Classic X-Men 4 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) 92 - read in B&W in Essential ASM INCREDIBLE HULK (1968) 150, 161, 172, 180-182 - 151 & 160 were in B&W in Essential UXM 4. Not read 172. 180-181 were reprinted in the 80s MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) 4, 23 - read in B&W in Essential MTU and in colour in digital MTU Masterworks AVENGERS (1963) 110-111 - read in B&W in Essential Avengers CAPTAIN AMERICA (1968) 172-175 - not re DEFENDERS (1972) 15-16 - read in B&W in Essential Defenders GIANT-SIZE FANTASTIC FOUR (1974) 4 - read in B&W in Essential FF It's in chronological order with the stories set between the covers for X-Men 67-93, the reprints, each of which has text telling you what was reprinted. As well as being the bridge between original and New X-Men, it also completes a gap in the Epics betwee Uncanny X-Men volumes 1-3 and 5 giving X-Men a 5 volume run and ensuring that from here on it should be Claremont X-Men most volumes until they confirm if Epic X-Men is going beyond v19 It also makes my Essential Classic X-Men completely redundant, will be charity shopped shortly

Just finished Deadshot: Beginnings. ugh. I've been really enjoying going through Ostrander's Suicide Squad and expected this to be a nice supplement, but it is relentlessly grim and Mcdonnell isn't bringing his a-game (which is surprising for what was a prestige format mini). It's going on the to-sell pile.
The only saving grace is it also reprints an Englehart / Rogers Batman story, but there's going to be a proper collection of their run in a few months (at last!).
