Lovely oversized trade of Empire arrived today, from the Shift comics folk. Really nicely produced.

I have a vague memory of sitting the office of a company called Computershare, where I worked for six months after graduating, reading about Gorilla Comics.
Either its demise or announcement I can't remember which.
Those days when working out your computer could access the internet was a shock!

All over these like shit on velcro.
The paperbacks, not the hardbacks. The former has the proper Penguin trade dress.

Picked up the From The Ashes trade to replace the one I had which was long since damaged and skipped. Thankfully it's not been recoloured and is the same as the first trade, with the added bonus of the Adam Hughes Classic X-Men covers up the back.

My main memories about both the manga and the film was some guy shouting about Canada the whole time. Got right on my tits.

I binge read the whole of Akira just a few months ago for the first time, had only ever read the first volume before despite having the whole lot sitting on my shelf. Great stuff, and interesting to see how it diverges from the film, especially how much longer it goes on post-explosion.

Filled two final holes in a long standing collection tonight. I've been missing Vols 7 and 8 of the Dark Horse Savage Sword of Conan collection (22 vols for the whole run) for yeeears. They were among the first volumes to go out of print in that series and I missed them at the time, but they only ever come up for silly money on amazon or ebay. Phil Comics, great specialist seller, listed them last week with a 99p start so I've FINALLY managed to nab them for not ridiculous prices. Hurrah! That's one of those things that has nagged me every time I see the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9... ARG! on the shelf. Man, must be ten years I've been sniffing around for those.

Not that Phil. www.ebay.co.uk/usr/phil-comicsThey put up 300+ British comics every fortnight. It's always nice to browse their new listings. I have made many purchases over the years, my harder to find last couple of years of Eagle comics came from them. This time it was just lucky they put up a full run of Savage Sword books, not usually their remit, but most welcome. SO glad to have nailed that collection.

Picked up the Beta Ray Bill mini trade by Daniel Warren Johnson.
This is the stuff, lovely series and I really dog DWj's work, someone recently mentioned he's a TF fan and hoped he might be part of the creative team behind any new series. I wouldn't say no to that.

Not a good issue though. The later run of Stan and Jack is where the magic is.
