Ploughing through Essential Fantastic Four 7 at the mo. Had read bits of the stuff with Darkoth before - presumably in my Marvel UK collection. Some of the rest of it is a little light...

Yes. You're now into the period of generic FF, alas. I shall pick a copy up cheap on amazon at one point due to my love of the FF but I would recommend the first 5 volumes first to anyone.

Not much cop, apart from the Darkoth story. Even Madrox's first appearance is at best so so. Also read Kitty Pryde & Wolverine in Hardcover. Don't normally buy HC but this is the first collection of it ever - and it's nearly 25 years old ! Storywise I can't understand why it's never been collected before with essential Kitty & Wolverine stuff. Milgrom's art however stinks. I think in a few months time I'll have an oppotunity to pass comment on his inking too when the X-Factor stuff comes up........

Finally read the two Thunderbolts collections from Warren Ellis. Aside from some too explicit copying of Tommy Lee Jones photos for Norman Osborne a splendid couple of books. I can see why Warren gets off the books, there's only so many stories he'd be interested in telling with them. If they do a collection of the Christos Gage stuff I might get that. Andy Diggle's work might be good too.

I tried reading some of Ellis Thunderbolts, but I just found the premise distasteful. Horrid, nasty stuff.
I did read the first issue of Iron Fist with whoever it was that took over the title after Fraction and co left. It was mediocre. The Fraction et al issues I've read thus far have been tops.

Fraction IF is very very good.
Ellis Thunderbolts just misses the point about what the title has been about. The earlier stuff is all about redemption for Supervillains. The previous issues of the title were a joy to read. His were depressing and I was gone so fast

Up through into March. The date for the X-Force trade is corrected. Thor Simonson 2 gets reprinted. E Classic X-Men 3 slips big time.

New X-Men By Grant Morrison Ultimate Collection Book 2 was good. Not a lot of Quitely art though. Hadn't read most of this since first print. Interesting to spot a get out for Emma Frost reverting to bad guy that GM left us with !
Why put the word Ultimate in the title of a book when it's not an Ultimate Universe book ????? Silly. Creates confusion.

Immortal Iron Fist V2: The Seven Capital Cities of Heaven Containing issues 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and Annual 1 All superb stuff and even better in the trade together. Captain America: The Death Of Captain America Volume 2 - The Burden Of Dreams containing issues 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 & 36. Ditto ! Great as a trade ! Fantastic Four Visionaries: Walter Simonson Volume 2 Collects Fantastic Four #342-346. A little thin this volume, made worse by one of the tales being an inventory issue with a little Simonson at the start. Is there more of his stuff to come for FF ?

I saw in FP there is an 'Annihilation Classic' HC. It contains Groot's origin (hurrah), Rocket Racoon #1-4 (hurrah) and, er, unwanted crap. Looks like the amazon listing for Rocket Racoon Classic was a phantom. It's now listed as 'unavailable'.
Balls.

I had a flick through the 'Bat-Manga' book in Waterstones. An interesting curiosity. There is a villain called Lord Dead Man who is a bloke dressed up as a skeleton who just won't die no mater how many times Batman tries. Another tale has Karnak* the evil gorilla who wears a cape and tries to swap his mind with Batman's own! Elsewhere, Batman gets a call to kill the girl upstairs as she is a mutant...and mutants are evil and must be destroyed!
Also featured is the story of evolution.

Oh, btw, there are two completely different versions of the Watchmen trade paperback kicking about. One published by Titan was £18 in Waterstones and uses the 2005 recolour* and inferior paper stock. Right beside it were copies of the DC version which was £13, used the original masters and had nicer paper. Otherwise, identical copies.
How confusing.

Right beside it were copies of the DC version which was £13, used the original masters and had nicer paper. Otherwise, identical copies. FOPP had the Titan version for £12 the other day. Also of note is that retailers ordering from Diamond UK can get the Titan version [currently on some cheap deal] with the nice cover, but if you want the DC version we're only allowed to order the International version which has a different cover. Which is all well and good, but the new cover is rubbish and doesn't sell anywhere near as well as the yellow cover. And the Titan one won't be on deal forever, so if we want to stock the nicer cover, it'll end up costing more money. Plus I don't much like Titan and hardly want to support them overcharging for trades and putting those crappy stickers on books.
