The two biggest fails on that tarantulas are 1. Not basing it on the transmetal colors And 2. Not using Generations Crosscut.

Indeed. Can't see any desire to own these at all. Have Fun Pub ever sought any input from fans on the kind of thing they'd like to see in this line? or are they purely just making stuff up from what Hasbro throws them?

It's debatable on how much imput they actually take from fans, to how much they decide tgey know what fans want.
Brian Savage is full of himself, and an egotistical prick, who does not like interacting with fans, and has no interest in transformers at all. Case in point, he rejected animated several times when the TF "council" tried to convince him that animated season 4, or beast wars animated would be extremely popular. They only managed to convince him to greenlight it when they came up with animated stunticons.
They've also tried to do other beast wars sets, which brian rejects.
But, that is not to say Brian is the only problem. Back when they had a message board, they were notorious for ignoring us, and more so took VALID criticism* very badly. Pete Sinclair doesn't take criticism well. Rik Alverez was the best one of them all at taking ideas that the fans actually talked about, and trying to get them made. He also listened to criticism, and absorbed it.
Honestly, I think all the current ones tend to sit on their high horse and bestow upon us what they THINK are coveted concepts, with very little research in what fans actually want.
*By criticism, I mean genuine criticism. Not the typical "this sucks because its not exactly what I want at all times forever!" That a lot of people on other boards calls "criticism."

Who is Brian Savage? And this Council??

Brian Savage is the head of Fun Publications who run the TF & GI Joe fanclub. They got the TF gig through already running the Joe one.

Brian OWNS Funpub. It's his company. He's a big Joe fan. I don't know what they're called now, but back in the proverbial day, the people who run the TF half of FP referred to themselves as the council, or something similarly pretentious.

Damn. Now I want to work for them.

Gots to say, prefer Tarantulas from this to Cross-Skids. His TM form was bi-cycular after all, and the colours kinda work.
Course, I'd much rather see a brand new one... but he *is* in my top three Cons.

I would of expected FP to use TF4 or RID toys with them being cheap like & not using the better CW toys which we see they are using.

what I'd like to know about Tarantulas is, can those minicon/micron chaps he comes with be used as claw hands on each arm? And if so why are they not showing us that?

I have a couple of Ida and there's a number of projecting 5mm posts so yes, the Wreck-Gar bike mould that's been used to make Tarantulas should be able to hold them and use them as claws.

Nacelle is the next one released, in a surprising turn of events.
Kinda feels very cheaply made. I'd swear this was a knockoff.

Step up on FOC Impactor, but is going to work out at close to the 3P one so yeah... Good point indeed. Unusual situation from that point of view. I wonder if they've done a new Impactor head or are just reusing the FoC one. Deluxe just seems too small for Impactor, but I like the way a UK originated character is considered important enough to get two releases in the last few years.

It's interesting. And not terrible. I'd be interested were MMC not doing an absolutely perfect one, which would probably be at most $20 more than this will cost. (FP price gouges on the more popular characters, so I can't see this costing less than $70). New head. They have *never* used a completely different head attached to a completely different mold, before. It would require running some, or all of the FoC Impactor/Onslaught mold, just to get the head, plus engineering an entirely new connection to get the head to work on and attach too the Rook body, and that's assuming it can even fit in the spot in the first place. All and all, just significantly easier to make a new head from scratch designed to work on the rook molding.

Yeah, he's official and I'd rather support official, but if the third party one isn't going to be much more.... damn.

Post by Kingoji on Jul 22, 2015 9:34:04 GMT
I already have the third party guy pre-ordered and have no regrets, since he's more accurate and apparently Generations Springer size. But I'm still tempted by this whole year and might plump up for the set, and would have no issue with owning two.
*Notices multiples of popular characters already owned*
I'm also thrown a bit by the news that the mystery 7th fig will be deluxe. I'd assumed that Barrage would be coming from Legends Bombshell to make the weapon for the combined form. Looking at the actual set, the two obvious candidates would be Crankcase and Quake. crankcase could come from First Aid, but would they be willing to put two retools of the same toy in one year? And Quake would probably come from Brawl if anyone, and that would be too recent a release for inclusion. Assuming all figs are CW reuses I'd assume that either Dragstrip, Breakdown, or Dead End would be chosen, but who they'd become to fit the theme I have no idea.
