Another drunken punch-up? We can't really be shocked by this stage. -Nick Eric Joyce...elected to represent Falkirk..... one could argue that he is doing a fair job of being representational there. Karl

You would like to think that an MP would understand the concept of "Security Restricted Area" wouldn't you?

Why hasn't he been fired? If I got up to his hijinks I would be let go instantly.

Perhaps he has very important pictures of very important people in very important gimp outfits in an undisclosed location, due to be sent to the Telegraph at the merest hint that his career is in danger.

Presumably he is still there because the local party organisation have taken the decision not to ask for his resignation, and still in the Labour Party because the Whips have not asked him to leave the party. Whether this has anything to do with the fact that his seat has been for a while an Adamantium-clad Labour stronghold... who knows...

Replacement for Joyce who, research reveals, is no longer a member of the Labour Party - having been expelled for the drinking and the fighting - but has declared that he intends to serve out the rest of his term as an MP (which he has the option to do in law, having been duly elected). Immediately after it was announced a selection would be held a large flood of people joined the local party association. The two competing sides in the arguement seem to boil down to "Unison are trying to seize control of the selection of the candidate" and "The Local Party Organisation are trying to prevent our members from exercising their right to have a say in the selection of the Labour Candidate".
Sadly they are taking this matter to the courts - I was hoping that they could be talked into an Honor Duel in Battlemechs to decide the matter....

Ah dear. Judging from what is said in the article there may have been a slightly misunderstanding of how much force you are actually allowed to use when making a Citizen's Arrest (pretty much none)... Eric Joyce, discovering that Crime Fighting is not necessarily quite so clear-cut in the real world...

Aw, so we aren't going to get a "I'm not ashamed of what I've done. Someone has to take a stand" moment out of Eric Joyce. How sad, Falkirk can't even produce a middling quality vigilante.

You know, in my line of work this kind of thing would have got me fired under the 'bringing the organisation under disrepute' policy (even when off-duty) and I am paid via public money...like...an...MP...

In my last line of work it would put me on very sticky ground in a disciplinary sense if I was to be found guilty. There would be some very serious questions asked even if I was found innocent.
I seem to recall that an MP can't be removed simply for being accused - not sure what happens if they are found guilty.

Funnily enough I dare say it would cause issues for most people, but then our MP's are a privileged bunch aren't they?

I believe that a criminal conviction results in automatic expulsion from the House, as it is a disqualification from office. So, his being found guilty automatically ends his status as a member of Parliament at that point. Karl
