Phantom Menace finale - excellent choreography, double ended Saber, good stuff. ESB finale - Not so much a battle, but Vader casually despatching an unprepared Luke. Vaders casual one handed style makes this. RotJ finale - The music, dialogue and direction really contribute to the mood in this. The long silhouette shots of Luke and Vader are epic.

Vader versus Luke in Empire Strikes Back takes it for me. In terms of pacing it is far and away the best, but it also has some absolutely great sword choreagraphy. It also has some lovely character moments, such as Vader shifting to a very casual single-handed grip demonstrating a confidence that is all the way into arrogance. It is also the one that feels like it has the most balanced on it in story-telling terms.

Luke v Vader in Jedi for me, just ahead of Luke and Vader in Empire. Third I'd have to go for Anakin/Obi-Wan v Dooku in Sith. I just wasn't expecting the entire fight or the outcome at the very start of the film. Obi-Wan v Anakin 4th, and Darth Maul and friends 5th. I love lightsabre fights.

I liked lightsaber fights when they were proper duels. When folk are twirling about the air and performing ludicrous acrobatics I lose interest.

According to the Star Wars 2016 Annual, the top 10 duels are:
10. Obi-Wan vs Jango Fett 9. Yoda vs Count Doku 8. Obi-Wan vs General Grievous 7. Mace Windu vs Palpatine 6. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul 5. Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader (ANH) 4. Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader (ROTJ) 3. Yoda vs Sidious 2. Obi-Wan vs Anakin/Vader (ROTS) 1. Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader (ESB)
So now it's official, I guess?

Gotta be Darth Maul for me. Unlike the other acrobatic prequel duels, e.g. Grievous, Yoda, this was not faked, it was Ray Park showing how good someone could really be. He sustained a convincing defence against two swords with a single weapon for a long time without making it look difficult. He really should have won that and any other fight in the series, as he was clearly the best.
I can see why folk like the Skywalker/Vader fights story-wise, but neither of the fighters was at the peak of his abilities - it was really novice vs. has-been. I did always wonder what it would be like to see a fully trained, healthy Jedi or Sith lord handle a lightsaber - and Ray Park gave us that.

Indeed. I feel EpII/III choreography is like 2 kids playing with swords made from sticks. And the less said about the confrontation of Palpatine the better.

Vader V Obi Wan as the whole plot of the original film turns on it.

In terms of advancing the story, I favour the ESB fight between Luke and Vader. In terms of fight choreography then The Phantom Menace.
The worst is the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight in Sith.

IMO, the worst ones are any with Yoda and/or Palpatine. Ridiculousness of the visual aside, the OT always made me feel as tho those two had become so powerful in the Force they just didn't need them to fight any more. Favourite is the Maul Tag Team for spectacle, especialy after Qui Gon goes down. Those few seconds of Obi Wan fighting out of sheer anger always give me chills. And SO FAST. Favourite for story reasons is defo RotJ. Emotionally charged, everything had built to and hung upon it, just so tense.

I think it's worth mentioning there are a few very good ones in Clone Wars, and they put some effort into giving characters distinctive styles (I love Ahsoka's reverse sabre grip, and when she started also using the additional, shorter one later in the series).
