Nice pics. As for Rotorstorm, I'm hoping Springer gets remoulded as Rotorstorm, but Im not totally sure if the chest will work. But if you do go the Tomahawk route the best customs I've seen replace the legs with Universe Cyclonus legs. I can't remember how it works but they work quite well in helicopter mode too. I tried this and it certainly changes the figure. You're right, it does make a possible helicopter undercarriage too. The colours are totally wrong though so require some painting. He's in the last Needlenose 'family' shot, albeit out of focus. Here's his chopper mode. I like how the wheels are retractable - it lends a little more credibility to the mode, if you get my meaning. Don't know how I missed this thread before. Really impressive work on Needlenose there, Sifu! I don't know if you've ordered any of the TFC version of the Predacons yet, but I do recommend the Mastermind Creations iteration if you're still swithering. The build quality on the two figures I've got so far is superb and they come with a nice range of fun accessories. They are a bit more expensive but I think they're worth it. I picked up TFC's Aerialbots and they're fine for what they are, but MMC's Predacons are spectacular. -Nick After the amazeballs that was Hexatron, I'll likely end up with the whole MMC Predacon set. In the mean time, could I ask a huge favour? Is there any possiblity you could give me the dimensions and/or a photo of Headstrong Ground Assaulter? I'm hoping to use him as the inner robot for my Stranglehold custom and I need to know if he'll fit in the shell I have for the outer body. If you could possibly put your Pretender hat on and get him into his most compact form, that would be a big help too.

All's well that end's well... For the full low-down on Stranglehold head over to the Reviews section for a lengthy play-by-play account. In the mean time, here's some pictures of another member of the Mayhem Attack Squad. Ruckus was going really well until the paint job and then I fell out of love with him. I don't like the mould much at all but it was all I could find. I liked the idea of him being the runt of the litter though so I went with it. After scouring my collection I was chuffed to find a head in the right scale (from Oil Pan) that suited the G1 version so well. After that, I just needed to buy three different versions of the Dune Runner mould, clip the guns from the junker G1 toy I had and paint the chest. Originally, I thought I could settle for an orange chest and yellow everywhere else but it was just too orange to let me get away with it. I thoroughly regret the choices of paints I used and am more than a little embarrassed at how the paint came out. I hope I can redeem it at some point but until then, this guy holds the place well. Here he is:

... And for my final trick ... Here's the squad (pretty much) complete, in various configurations: I may revisit them and consider a few more custom jobs but I'm running out of steam now and would like to move onto something else. I've heard Mini-Autobot combiners haven't been done justice yet... That X-Transbots Bruticus video made me want to try motion capture too.

Thanks folks. Like my first proper thread on these boards, I now find myself wondering, where next?

Mayhems (Dis)Assemble! Stunning work, they make a very impressive line-up indeed.

I'd half fancy a go at Octopunch, Catilla and Snarler. They'd come under the Project Mayhem banner and I've already clocked Battle Cat as a possible base. But I don't have enough love for the characters to really put my heart into it...
EDIT: Damn. You've done it again. I'm currently trawling eBay for Samurai Battle Cats.

Probably out of your price range for the Mattel price gouging and shipping, but it migth be worth checking out the He-Man classics stuff. They've got a Battle Cat, and just released a Battle Lion too

Yeah, my first port of call was BBTS. I was looking at MOTU figures for Stranglehold's base but didn't find anything that really floated my boat. Vykron came close but I'd guessed he would be too small.
I quite like Battle Lion but a lion's too far from the sabre-toothed tiger original. It would make a nice twist though. The other point is I'd probably use the DOTM minicon for the inner robot and as that's not a lion, it wouldn't really work to have the outer shell as one. Battle Cat's easy enough to come by on this side of the pond but I wouldn't mind shelling out for him if it meant the end product was tight - Stranglehold was extortionate!
Hmm... it looks increasingly like Project Mayhem is still alive.

Yes I just remembered Catilla was a saber toothed tiger and not a lion. Now I feel silly

Stranglehold is utterly magnificent, Sifu. I'm stunned. Reading through your report on him in the Reviews forum just left me in awe. Such hard work!
Octopunch next, me thinks. The Seaspray repaint figure just doesn't do the character justice.

I think Catilla's the odds-on favourite as the stars seem to be lining up for him. I already looked at Octopunch a few weeks ago as a possible follow-up but I couldn't find a decent base. There is however, an opportunity using the 12" Doc Octopus figure by Toy Biz: Rare 2004 Spiderman 12 Doc Ock Toybiz w 4 Tentacles Doctor Octopus MIBI'm not sure where else to find a start point as all other 'robot octopodes' in my searches are one-off models and nothing was really suitable. blue - Don't feel silly. The Battle Lion figure is sabre-toothed so the idea still has legs. It would just come down to which one looks the best all cybered up. At the moment, I'm liking the aesthetic of Samurai Battle Cat for that reason.

Ruckus is dead... Long live Ruckus! As you can see, I went down a totally different avenue for Ruckus V2... and I'm so glad I did. To be honest, I don't think I'd have bothered if the Wolverine Crossover mould wasn't so damn perfect for him. The right alt mode in the right colours (mostly). After acquiring that, I set about sourcing a suitable head when lo and behold, I spot a head in my bits box that's as near as perfect as I could hope for: Botcon Pyro (the head was there as I've replaced it with a Shapeways custom)! The head swap however proved quite difficult as the joints are totally different and the head wouldn't easily fold inside. Much testing and adjusting was done to get the neck short enough to be able to fold away but long enough to give mobility. So I'm sat there with this wonderful little Ruckus staring at me, telling me that just because he's now got spring-loaded claws, it doesn't make him a Triggercon. I resign myself to finding some sort of over-the-shoulder rig. On the same shelf was FoC Runination and his backpack had what I needed (I could replace it with FoC Bruticus' anyway). In my bits box I find some replaced City Commander rocket launchers (as befits his original weapon description) and the rail is complete. But how to fit an 5mm peg into an 8mm hole? Then the final 'as if' moment happens and I spot a piece of cut-off plastic from the head swap: a ring about 8mm wide with a 5mm hole drilled through it. A little bit of glue and the job's done. As an afterthought, it came out quite well but he won't balance in anything other than the knee-taking pose so it'll probably get stashed. But here he is... a 100% paint-free kit bash: SNICK! SNICK! New avatar methinks Obligatory group shot
