May his Baldichap be praised! -Ralph Oh no. I already had Baldichap, and my related Fu purchase was telegraphed in advance in the Hopes & Predictions thread. This was something I did not anticipate buying.

Pinwig has cost me money. He has cost me money in a way that may cost me more money. I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE! Revenge!? That should be MY revenge for all the things you've enticed me into buying over the years! All those Micromasters for a start. I hated Micromasters until you told me that I didn't, then £370 quid vanished amassing the entire '89 lineup!

May his Baldichap be praised! -Ralph The Baldichaps are amazing. They are just AMAZING. Although it's a bit weird none of the limb bots have stickers. They do have very nice paint jobs though. If it wasn't for Battle Gaia I could quite happily go completist on the Combaticon moulds.

RID is one of those instances that I mentioned before, in that the toys are superb and well made, but the cartoon just puts me off them. Instead of appreciating the wonderful designs, I just hear silly annoying voices coming from them. It's wrong, I know. Oh, I can't disagree with you, as apparently evidenced upthread. Crikey, 2014 Llama God was cross with RiD. And 2021 Llama God is much the same.

I've been trying to get my head round RiD more, so while we were chatting last night I used the wiki to put together this list. It's got the US and Japanese names, which country what was released in by wave and where toys were repaints of previous toys. I kinda understand it all a bit more now. Except possibly for the intricacies of the spy changers. This is just retail and standard exclusives as per what's on TF Wiki. drive.google.com/file/d/1OQGx9-4bKHi2rTZslE8__MUwdWjJtaW0/view?usp=sharing

Yeah but that wasn't released. I've missed putting Black Convoy on Scourge I see.
RiD was a line I saw come and go and I watched the cartoon, bought the DVDs, but never bought much into the toys. I got Optimus and Magnus and had Omega Prime on display for a long long time. The prime is one of my favourites, the super mode is a great robot. I bought the JRX set a few years ago and realised afterwards the Hasbro versions are probably better, but have thought of late it's time I bought a few more. Certainly the moulds that were new for this line.

I wasn't a fan of the RID toys, I think. Certainly the Autobot Brothers, I do not like. They're just a mess in robot mode, too asymmetrical and that does nothing for me.
I've had a play with the Optimus and Magnus big toys, but found them too flimsy, so they were moved on after a time. I think I still have the Megatron, he's good, but I've never transformed him because I don't know how...

Its an odd line in that there are hardly any new moulds and they are all Autobots apart from Megatron.
Well and tiny Scourge. But I think even that came later on after the main line.
I dont think the Autobot cars are as bad as they look. Prowls pretty normal other than the shield on one arm. Sideburn is slightly hampered by mostly the bumper on his shoulder. X Brawn is actually the most sturdy, but is a the most awkward too.
Build Boy and the guys are better as individual bots than combined but are a lot of fun to combine. Build Boy is also the most Sunbow animation model accurate toy to ever step out of a cartoon he didnt actually appear in.
JRX are the reverse, more fun as the combiner.
Also I have a bad habit of mixing Takara and Hasbro names. Build Boy will always be Build Boy though.

Each to their own, man. I wouldn’t complain if RiD was revisited, but I’d need to see how far they took that aesthetic before I knew if I’d buy many.
I’m 100% on board with moving on from G1 a wee bit, but my tastes will probably enjoy the Unicron Trilogy more!

If Hasbro picked a line beyond BW to move Generations on to I'd put money on Armada before RiD. Having made that spreadsheet it comes across to me even more as a fragmented set of oddments. Not a lot of cohesion there. Definitely scope for improving my own collection though; that'll be a target this year when I've worked out which subsets to go for.

RiD is effectively a stop gap line, parachuted in when Transtech was abandoned.
It's difficult to look at RiD as a whole - but start with the Car Robots and things might make more sense.
A bunch of new moulds - ala their previous line Neo - backed up with repaints. Their repaints strategy - G2 moulds, unused Flipchanger, a G1 Combiner a G2 "Leader" recolour/electronics strip and a G1 city - might be familiar if you look hard enough.
Hasbro takes all of it, looks at it, and thinks "That's not a full line" and starts pulling unused moulds off the shelf - Spychangers, Bruticus (Cerberus) and Megabolt. They get a tinsy bit of new budget to further their multiple scales desire at the smaller end (2 new Spychangers, 2 new larger Spychangers) and the rest is grab what's been recently used. Flipchanger Jets form BWII, Bikes recently reused in Microman and then a load of BM and a hugely popular TM2 Ultra which, lets be honest, should have got another run in it's original colours during BM.
The repaint exclusive phase post main line is just that, recent toys repainted. The oddities there are the Destructicons, no outing since the Heroes in 1994. And *that* is effectively the groundwork for Universe laid and you've read the frame work of what I'm writing for Matt.
In the 18 month gap while RiD is happening they cook up Armada

Also, as far as Car Robots go, with the exception of Valdigus and Brave Max, every single mold was new to the japanese market. Which isn't a lot, honestly.
And if Laser Prime got a japanese release in G-2, it was very limited. But I don't think it happened until much later, if at all.

He's not on the first Japanese G2 catalogue, which I have a scan of, but is on the second , which I don't but it's in one of the Generations Books. If anyone can oblige me with a scan..... My Japanese dealer catalogue says December (1995) but it also says TRF-14 - TRF-17 are the Rotorforce not Cyberjet repaints.

The bayverse is basically Car Robots without the G1 vibe. Honestly Im surprised they werent reused around the time Walmart was getting the Cybertron toys slapped in to movie packaging.

And aside from Megatron, Jetstorm (i think?), Nitro Zues, and whatever's going on with Arcee, I can't think of a single asymmetric bayverse design.

I was thinking in term of panel formers and general look, engineering and to some extent transformations as well as asymmetry. Though honestly I do always assume more movie toys are asymmetrical than they are. However you did miss Mudflap and Skids and Longarm (and depending on how picky you want to be a few others arguably) They arent massively asymmetrical, but really the car brothers werent either, Prowl (like Longarm) is only one part from symmetry. Sideburn is also just about panel layout really. And Xbrawn has a big arm the only difference between him and Mudflap and Skids is that his arm forms part of the car mode.
