Well more a comparison.
After having a mountain of 150 Jetfires stare at me for three days over Auto Assembly I eventually cracked and grabbed one late on the Sunday. Like most people I was unsure of the chrome, it's excessive, but after seeing Tonys Jetifre I found myself feeling the toy would look dull without it. It adds something, it's just that it adds a little too much something.
But then someone, probably Nick or Tony made a discovery that changed everything.
All chromed up.
But whats this? Take of the leg armour and thats a nice little paint app over a moulded area that does a perfectly fine job of representing the armour.
Thats when I realised that it wasn't so much the chrome that troubled me, but the leg armour itself. Its not armour its a weapon, a very stupid laser that isn't much good in either mode while attached to the leg. Even if I had gotten the Takara version, I still wouldn't have liked those pieces.
The result of taking the leg pieces off (they can then be attached to the arms or the jetpack) is that the chrome pieces are now restricted to weapons and thrusters. For some reason that looks so much better to me.
Comparison with Jetfire and Classic Jetfire, well Botcon Dreadwind, but just pretend it's evil Jetfire.
Yeah I really like it. It has the presence of the original, is a subtle blend of Skyfire and Jetfire. Aside from size it also has better hips and more stable feet than the classic voyager. Both heads are an improvement too.
It is a bit light on paint apps or stickers which I imagine the Takara release will have, but I'm sure reprolabels will come through for me.
In jet mode it's pure Jetfire and I love it. Chrome thrusters look really good here and I like being able to attach the other chromed parts together.
I might even prefer it to the original in some respects. The thrusters sit further back and their smaller size look better. And a pointy nose cone looks good.
And just a quick comparison to other voyagers. Just the right size for my tastes.
Jetfires isn't perfect, the shoulders lock into place in an odd way that isn't quite as secure as it could be, then again it's not caused me any issues yet. Chrome will inevitably wear and the hollows on the toy aren't great, thankfully, at least as far as I am concerned, the worst ones are the ones behind the arm armour and I am quite happy leaving the armour in place. I do wish the gun was black instead or red.
But in the pro column the articulation is great and thanks to the oversized back of the feet, it's incredibly stable.
Repaints: Any of the cyberjets Jetfire mould would be welcome. With some remoulding I could also see a really scary Thunderwing out of it.
