"Would rather read about jets than be one..." My favorite Special Teams tech-specs quote (Skdive). Every time I read that I always think that Skydive and I would get on rather well. We would be sitting their having debates about one thing, leading to another, to another. Whilst Fireflight had his cranial unit in his hands muttering "Oh Primus, now there are two of them!" :-) Karl

Dirge's fear inducing engines power. That was a unique ability I've never seen properly explore in fiction. A fascinating ability I would have liked to see expanded upon.

John Higgins art! wow! That looks awesome. Has that wiki page actually reproduced the entire text? I'm a Fighting Fantasy fan (looks at row of green spines on shelf), but I've never played these.

Bob's TF Universe entries ( www.ntfa.net/universe/english/index.php?act=&cat=AB ) are better than the tech-specs ( www.botchthecrab.com/archive/techspecs/ ) 'cos they're fuller. Pick a random character and compare the two. My TF Universe TPB signed in person by Uncle Bob is now one of my most prized possessions. IDW are reprinting all the profiles in one volume in a month's time ( www.amazon.co.uk/Transformers-Classics-8-Bob-Budiansky/dp/1631401335/ ) but going by previous volumes in this series, the art reproduction may be low quality. Re: Dirge's power Shockprowl, surely you've read the text story 'Hunted' in the very first UK TF annual (or TF UK Classics Volume 1) where Dirge freezes the Jumpstarters with fear, but Prowl overcomes the fear through the power of logic and blows him out of the sky? NO?!?!!?!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!
That's the kinda of thing I was thinking about when I was talking about expanding this power! Things like- Dirge timeing his attacks to peak effect, and the fear it generates being overcome with willpower!
AND WHO BETTER TO DEMONSTRATE THAT OTHER THAN PROWL?!!!!!
I need to read this story.
Martin I love you.

I was made aware of Transformers gamebooks by this thread. Amazon marketplace prevailed at a penny a book plus postage. My Sunday morning is sorted. I love these boards. More than anything because the covers of two of these have Weirdwolf & Highbrow on. The BESTEST Headmasters. Lovely art.

Quite enjoyed Dinobot War. Even if there wasn't really a war. Nice that Sludge was the lead although five Dinobots should been able to deal with Ravage and Laserbeak without my help and the random aliens were a bit odd.
I'm part way through Highway Clash now. Optimus needs me!

When Prime tells Megatron he won't allow him to go an inch further, mine missed the i out. I thus spent a decade believing a nch was a Cybertronian unit of distance. And Shockprowl... READ IT!

Highway Clash was my favourite of the books, because it had Optimus Prime in it and some very nice artwork by noted 2000ad alumni John Higgins. Andy I'm really quite impressed by it. Considering the page count it does what many gamebooks fail to do and provides multiple routes to the conclusion that can be independent of each other. There must be about six different ways to finish that and there are two win outcomes, one of which misses the last third of the story. I've played many 400 reference fighting fantasies that don't have the variety that has. These are better than the Doctor Who choose your own adventures. Also love the way Megatron lies about who he is if you don't eavesdrop first, meaning the pictures can give you info it's possible to miss in the text. Desert of Danger has a lot to live up to!
