Did Sideswipe or Sunstreaker appear in the TF profile features in Transformers UK during the double digit issue numbers before the A to Z series started? If so can someone get me a scan? (and remind me what the feature was called) It was called Fact File and Sideswipe is in issue #9 and Sunstreaker #11. I've been cataloguing the contents of each issue as I've been re-reading them, however those actual issues are now back in the box in my vault (read: old bedroom at parents' house). If they aren't forthcoming from scans (someone must have scans surely?) I can photograph them on Sunday. Fact File, incidentally, ran from issue #3 to #19 and seems to have ended with the first redesign of the layout. Isn't there some after that too? I recall a Scavenger one, possibly in the first part of the Smelting Pool.

That's why I started listing them all, for reference. It started as me trying to track all the adverts and Hello from Hasbro bits to try and work out roughly the order of toy releases.

The odd thing is that as they are both Lamborghini Countach's...I think they should both be rear-engined. That's what I don't get. As to where the shoulder mounted magnesium flares are on Sideswipe, I always assumed that they were recessed under some kind of panel - but then, I tended to see them as like flare dispensers on an aircraft rather than like road flares.
Do I think that the profiles were switched around? Yeah, probably. Does it bother me? Not really. And besides, authorial intent be damned - the supertuning was released as Sunstreaker so it is Sunstreaker, and the regular Countach was released as Sideswipe so it is Sideswipe.
Next you'll be telling me that my Cliffjumper isn't Cliffjumper because he happens to be yellow.
(I can't see a problem with their Tech Specs though, only the profile text may be reversed. Ironically, the exact opposite fate appears to have befallen Starscream and Skywarp - whose profiles are in the right place, but whose tech specs probably arent)

I wouldn't dispute they are what they are now. Just that there's been a huge cock up.

I'd with the RiD. I'd say that "Scourge" fits really well with "Ruination" - although going from Black Convoy to Mega Octane might have undercut his credibility as a villain (if he was meant to have any in the first place - whether CR or RiD, if you are taking it seriously, you are doing it wrong).
I've never really had a problem with Flywheels though. After all, tanks and armoured vehicles have plenty of wheels - more than most things other than articulated lorries. And in an urban environment I can't think of many vehicles better for pulling off a trap than a helicopter and something that looks like a civilian SUV.

For me it's the word Octane which implies fuel which implies Fuel Tanker which implies Black G2 Laser Rod Prime. It's an odd word top be using on something which isn't a fuel truck or possibly a race car. Mega as well implies big and it certainly is a big toy. I've never really had a problem with Flywheels though. After all, tanks and armoured vehicles have plenty of wheels - more than most things other than articulated lorries. And in an urban environment I can't think of many vehicles better for pulling off a trap than a helicopter and something that looks like a civilian SUV. Karl There's room for argument here, I'll admit, but I feel that Battletrap more suits the pair of military vehicles whereas the wheels are more obvious on the van toy. I know there's others, pre loss of trademark name roulette, but I'm struggling to remember them though.

It is utterly absurd to suddenly decide that characterisations are now different for two of the original characters.

It is utterly absurd to suddenly decide that characterisations are now different for two of the original characters. As for characterisation they're both vain vicious egotists, not terribly Autobot actually, and, to be honest, might as well be interchangeable. But it's more the weapons and abilities we're talking about.

Yes. I think I'd find it hard to swap the actual personalities at this point, but it's clear the weapons and abilities are the wrong way round. You couldn't just swap the personalities over because the fiction has developed what the bios started, so they're set as is.
Mind you, I can't see Sideswipe as yellow. I really like Sideswipe, my G1 is a cherished toy and the MP is probably my favourite MP car, but I don't think I'd have liked him so much if he'd been Tigertrack colours all along. Maybe that's just because I'm used to red. Similarly I don't like Sunstreaker's mould in red.

I think Sunstreaker, the character, has to be yellow. Sun implies Yellow, to my mind, rather than Red. And yes, I think both toys look better in the colours they ended up with

I think the yellow works better with the more black, as on Sunstreaker, to break it up.
Thinking about it I wonder if the characterisation of these two on their tech specs is why they're used so little in fiction despite Sideswipe being one of the most consistently popular Autobot car toys.

I may have made a mistake yesterday: the pile drivers aren't Sunstreaker's arm missiles, they're his arms without the missiles or hands.

This conversation is silly. We all know Sideswipe is an angry black robot with too many weapons and a fetish for spikes.

The tech specs was a fond keepsake of the toyline for me as a kid. My brother and I collected enough of the cutouts to use as a trumph card game.
The comic tech specs in the comic were also a fond highlight.

The tech specs were a great way to get kids to buy into the idea of repainted identical toys. You gave the characters a personality to latch on to.
Something that modern packaging has sadly eliminated.
When I was a kid, it didn't register that the jets were identical toys with different colour schemes just that they looked alike.

Indeed. I never registered certain toys were the same 'moulds' at all as a kid due to the influence of the tech specs and the comic.
The exception being the Magnus cab robot which we all decided at school was 'the ghost of Optimus Prime'.

He had a new paint job, which was special armour. Little did I know that the writers of The Return of Optimus Prime would have the same idea. Though I would swap out Optimus and Magnus' hands and heads on occasion. Andy
