1: The Theory of Everything: Rather sweet and lovely. It...actually warmed my heart...sniff. 2: Big Hero 6: The Marvel movie that isn't advertised as a Marvel movie. Quite fun for what it is and Baymax is brilliant. Stay for the bit after the very end of the credits. 3: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance: Some of the smoothest visual direction I have seen for a while. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about the film but the fact I'm still mulling over bits of it a few days after watching it is a good thing. Keaton is on top form. 4: Unbroken: Solid if unremarkable POW drama. The faith angle is surprisingly underplayed considering how it motivated the real life chap who inspired the film but it's a solid production. 5: The Woman in Black: Angel of Death - Hard for me to fully judge as I was trapped in an audience of noisy pricks and folk playing with their fucking phones all the way through. It certainly seemed nicely shot but the atmosphere was killed a bit by the arseholes in the theatre. I think it was ok if not a patch on the first film but I'd need to see it again to make a proper appraisal.

1. PADDINGTON! Damn right. 2. Big Hero 6 - Plenty of good fun here. Also Low Power Baymax = Drunk Ralph. Teehee.

Burns, the year is 6 days old and you've seen five films. Can you do a film per day?

Ah ha, no. My next epic will be...Taken 3. Can't be as bad as Taken 2 surely.

I know, but I do have a soft spot for the exciting new film genre of recent years: 'Liam Neeson gets angry and kills people.'

1: The Theory of Everything. 2: Big Hero 6. 3: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. 4: Unbroken. 5: The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. 6: Taken 3 (IMAX): Other than one great 'Go, Liam, Go!' moment it's a very pedestrian affair. It's natural home is on shiny disc with 3 beers as it feels a bit cheap on the big screen. Watchable and innoffensive but nothing amazing. 7: Foxcatcher: The high quality of the three central performances cannot be denied though I found the directorial style too obtuse and cold for me to really care and ultimately I was quite bored. A great performance piece but not a great film. 8: Into The Woods: Damn you, Emily Blunt! You know I will see all your films! You led me astray this time! *cries*

1. PADDINGTON 2. Big Hero 6 3. Birdman - Like Ralph not entirely sure what to make of this, but still thinking it over. Great performances. 4. Foxcatcher - Umm, very well performed by the three main stars, but felt disjointed throughout as if the director wasn't sure of where he was going with it.

1. Paddington - a charming and fun family movie which manages to capture something of the spirit of the original TV series. Funny, and with a real heart to it. Can't think how I could have started the cinematic year better to be honest.

The only thing bad about Paddington is that the rest of the year will never be as good.

So excited.
First Avengers film was ponderous wank. Also it was the bloody Defenders (super powered people who hate each other briefly team up then disperse straight away, one of them is even the Hulk for goodness sakes) rather than The Avengers (ie a team of heroes who are a bloody team at all times and fight crime and evil from either a mansion or tower base usually). It wanged chum.
BUT THIS IS ULTRON MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Ultron. I don't give a flying fuck about the other characters*. I just want Ultron. I want him to win and then....I DEMAND KANG!!!!! HE MUST APPEAR NEXT IF THERE IS ANY JUSTICE!
So excited. I may need to book out all seats near me in the cinema.
It competes with OLD MAN LUKE SKYWALKER WITH A BEARD for default film of the year.
ULTRONNNNNNNNN!!!!!

*Other than who Andy Serkis is playing!!!!!!!!

I dunno, the trailers really aren't doing it for me. I want to like this movie, but Ultron sounds like a generic American villain and it makes it look like the plot is "Hulk rampages, everyone is sad so Tony Stark makes an army of killer robots, they turn evil, everyone teams up to beat them." I hope I'm wrong on that, but I dunno...

Lucas not directing, the classic cast returning, Millennium Falcon and the follow-up to ROTJ we are were promised as kids. Whether or not it turns out to be 'good' I know I will get some enjoyment from it. There's been enough time since the prequels to give me hope for a good SW film again.

I mean, would movie Kang be just as good if he was played by Nic Cage? (Well, okay obviously that would be amazing, but you know what I mean).

I'm not completely hating the look of it. The trailers haven't exactly been luring me in, but I did like the carrying the dog down the escalater. Plus unlike so many of these projects the original creator seems happy with it. Sadly CG Paddington does look creepy as hell. 1. Paddington - Relieved it was far superior to the trailer. Excellent cast and the cg is quite nice once used to it. 2. Big Hero 6 - The ultimate (so far) hybrid of the Pixar, Disney, Marvel merger. Lots of fun. 3. Birdman - Yeah I dont know quite what I just saw but enjoyed it a lot. 4. Gone Girl - caught on a Take 2 showing. Knew nothing going in and was constantly left guessing. 5. Taken 3 - Tries mixing up the formula with mixed results. Still enjoyable though.

Similar thoughts to you on Paddington and Bird Man there. Almost went to see Paddington again this evening and still pondering over Birdman almost a week after.
