1: Shaun the Sheep Movie. 2: The Old Vic’s ‘The Crucible’. 3: Whiplash. 4: Globe on Screen: Titus Andronicus. 5: The Terminator (re-release): I thought I knew this film inside-out from a bajillion home video viewings but I got a lot of new things out of it in this setting, aided by a first-class restoration job on picture and sound. 6: The Theory of Everything. 7: Big Hero 6. 8: Future Shock: The Story of 2000AD (UK Premiere): Most attempts to present documentaries on comics tend to veer towards being very patronising to readers of them or are overly dry. This manages to avoid both traps and is entertaining and lively throughout. I'm not sure how it will play to those not completely familiar with the comic '2000AD' as a few of the strips could have had their premise explained a bit more clearly and the strong language of some of the contributers could be off-putting but overall a very good effort and worth seeing if you have even a passing interest in comics as an art form. At the screening there was a Q&A afterwards with the director, one of the producers and two of the interviewees, which was a nice touch. 9: The Lego Movie (BAFTA re-release). 10: Globe on Screen: The Duchess of Malfi. 11: The Lord of the Rings (1978, re-release): Works very well in the intended setting where the ferocious pace really pays off. Great sense of danger, a stirring score, lovely humour and terrific action scenes. Far superior to the other filmed version, in my opinion, especially on the big screen. 12: The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water. 13: The Sound of Music (re-release). 14: Globe on Screen: Julius Caesar. 15: The Age of Adaline. 16: Globe on Screen: Anthony and Cleopatra. 17: American Sniper. 18: A Most Violent Year. 19: Mad Max: Fury Road. 20: The Gambler (2014). 21: Selma. 22: Kill The Messenger. 23: Fast and Furious 7 (IMAX). 24: The Water Diviner. 25: Wild Card. 26: Run All Night. 27: The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya (subbed). 28: Cinderella (2015). 29: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. 30: Kingsman: The Secret Service (IMAX). 31: Avengers: Age of Ultron. 32: Child 44. 33: Good Kill. 34: Project Almanac. 35: Man Up. 36: It Follows. 37: The Salvation. 38: Unbroken. 39: Spooks: The Greater Good. 40: Unfriended. 41: Spy. 42: Mr Holmes. 43: The Connection. 44: Son of a Gun. 45: The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. 46: Taken 3 (IMAX). 47: The New Girlfriend. 48: Seventh Son. 49: Foxcatcher. 50: Minions: I hate to say it, but removed as sidekicks from the films that spawned them and promoted to main characters the little guys just aren't anywhere near as funny. I wondered if it was just me but the very enthusiastic crowd I was in also got more subdued as it went on. It's not bad but it's just not amusing enough on its own merits and Gru is missed. 51: A Little Chaos. 52: Ex Machina. 53: Tomorrowland: A World Beyond (IMAX). 54: The Divergent Series: Insurgent. 55: Far From The Madding Crowd (2015). 56: San Andreas. 57: John Wick. 58: The Gunman. 59: Chappie. 60: Blackhat. 61: Into The Woods. 62: Big Game. 63: The Falling. 64: Jurassic World. 65: Survivor. 66: Jupiter Ascending. 67: Pitch Perfect 2.

Insipid score, dull direction, awful dialogue, characters that have caught Moron Disease and humanity being so utterly stupid you will Skynet to win. Unengaging action sequences where nothing looks real, no sense of threat, danger or excitement. Only the ever-watchable Arnie, Emilia Clarke doing wonders in an underwritten role and Matt Smith making a strong impact in a tiny amount of screen time stop this from rating at the bottom of the table. Very disappointing both as a Terminator film and as a piece of film making in its own right. 57: San Andreas. 58: John Wick. 59: The Gunman. 60: Chappie. 61: Blackhat. 62: Into The Woods. 63: Big Game. 64: The Falling. 65: Jurassic World. 66: Survivor. 67: Jupiter Ascending. 68: Pitch Perfect 2.

1) Ralph is a fool. And mostly wrong. Genisys lacks the tension and steady build up of the first two Terminator films but infinitely superior to Salvation.
2) Matt Smith was in it? Didn't notice.

1. Paddington 2. The Tale of Princess Kaguya 3. Big Hero 6 4. Shaun the Sheep 5. The Terminator (re-release) 6. Mad Max:Fury Road 7. Fast and Furious 7 8. Kingsman 9. Avengers: Age of Ultron: 10. Terminator:Genisys : Felt like it was apeing the forms of previous Terminator films without really understanding why they worked. I though the action sequences were fairly insipid as well - too much of it felt like cartoon people in a cartoon world and I couldn't bring myself to care (CG is a good tool, but shouldn't be the only tool). I didn't actually mind any of the changing the metaphysics of the "world" - the first two films fundamentally disagree on how they think the world works (whilst Salvation was too busy trying to work out which of three films it was supposed to be), I just don't think that they did anything terribly interesting with that change(Other than a "shock reveal" which would have been really good if the marketing department hadn't cut it off at the knees before the film even opened.)The use of the original films "future" theme over the end credits moved beyond ironic for me - that driving, inevitable theme, used originally to link Kyle, the future and the Terminator into a single, nightmarish, inexorable process just seemed to be there because they thought it was "The Terminator Theme". 11. John Wick: 12. The Gunman 13. The Hobbit
My next film is probably going to be Jurassic World...Given the lack of anything else looking appealing at the moment.

Screamingly funny throughout: a pitch-perfect farce with much fine slapstick including one stupendous sequence where a man punches an octopus. More stories should have unexpected octopus attacks. I've really enjoyed the 5 Globe films this year and I do hope they continue in 2016. 11: Globe on Screen: The Duchess of Malfi. 12: The Lord of the Rings (1978, re-release). 13: The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water. 14: The Sound of Music (re-release). 15: Globe on Screen: Julius Caesar. 16: The Age of Adaline. 17: Globe on Screen: Anthony and Cleopatra. 18: American Sniper. 19: A Most Violent Year. 20: Mad Max: Fury Road. 21: The Gambler (2014). 22: Selma. 23: Kill The Messenger. 24: Fast and Furious 7 (IMAX). 25: The Water Diviner. 26: Wild Card. 27: Run All Night. 28: The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya (subbed). 29: Cinderella (2015). 30: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. 31: Kingsman: The Secret Service (IMAX). 32: Avengers: Age of Ultron. 33: Child 44. 34: Good Kill. 35: Project Almanac. 36: Man Up. 37: It Follows. 38: The Salvation. 39: Unbroken. 40: Spooks: The Greater Good. 41: Unfriended. 42: Spy. 43: Mr Holmes. 44: The Connection. 45: Son of a Gun. 46: The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. 47: Taken 3 (IMAX). 48: The New Girlfriend. 49: Seventh Son. 50: Foxcatcher. 51: Minions. 52: A Little Chaos. 53: Ex Machina. 54: Tomorrowland: A World Beyond (IMAX). 55: The Divergent Series: Insurgent. 56: Far From The Madding Crowd (2015). 57: Terminator: Genisys. 58: San Andreas. 59: John Wick. 60: The Gunman. 61: Chappie. 62: Blackhat. 63: Into The Woods. 64: Big Game. 65: The Falling. 66: Jurassic World. 67: Survivor. 68: Jupiter Ascending. 69: Pitch Perfect 2.

In an exciting twist for this years viewing, a free cinema ticket for any Cineworld showing for any film and with no expiry date has come into my possession. Naturally I thought of my good friend Andu who was overjoyed to hear of his free trip to the cinema to see 'Jem and the Holograms' this Christmas!
Christmas comes early for Turnbull!

Powered by vast amounts of stupid, and filled with characters about which I did not care. The sheer amounts of mechanically recovered Jurassic Park in the scripts make-up also just made me shake my head in disbelief. By the end I was shaking my head in disbelief. I'm thinking I might have to declare the bottom slot in this chart "The Jurassic Park Memorial Infinite Sub-basement Slot" in perpetuity.

Yes. Oh, and however cool he may look, Falcon remains the most ineffectual of Avengers. You also need to stay to the end of the end credits. I think I may go see this again on Sunday. Martin PS One character has a throwaway line that establishes the existence of Spider-Man.

One of those films that works better for me as I think about it rather than when I was watching it. A very interesting scene near the end subtly asks how opinions of art can also be questioned if we know that the person who made it was evil. 31: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. 32: Kingsman: The Secret Service (IMAX). 33: Avengers: Age of Ultron. 34: Child 44. 35: Good Kill. 36: Project Almanac. 37: Man Up. 38: It Follows. 39: The Salvation. 40: Unbroken. 41: Spooks: The Greater Good. 42: Unfriended. 43: Spy. 44: Mr Holmes. 45: The Connection. 46: Son of a Gun. 47: The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. 48: Taken 3 (IMAX). 49: The New Girlfriend. 50: Seventh Son. 51: Foxcatcher. 52: Minions. 53: A Little Chaos. 54: Ex Machina. 55: Tomorrowland: A World Beyond (IMAX). 56: The Divergent Series: Insurgent. 57: Far From The Madding Crowd (2015). 58: Terminator: Genisys. 59: San Andreas. 60: Self/Less: Starts well but begins to go downhill after Ben Kingsley exits the picture becoming increasingly dull, plodding and generic as it goes on and by the end I was begging for this leaden lumpen mess to just end. 61: John Wick. 62: The Gunman. 63: Chappie. 64: Blackhat. 65: Into The Woods. 66: Big Game. 67: The Falling. 68: Jurassic World. 69: Survivor. 70: Jupiter Ascending. 71: Pitch Perfect 2.

1. Paddington 2. The Tale of Princess Kaguya 3. Big Hero 6 4. Shaun the Sheep 5. The Terminator (re-release) 6. Mad Max:Fury Road 7. Ant-Man: A good, solid caper comedy, with a leavening of Superhero stuff added for flavour. Not terribly inventive, and kind of assembled from stock bits, but handles the fairly generic plot and characters pretty well. Liked the very "caper movie" scoring of the film too. I do think it was enjoyable despite its links to the rest of the Marvel Movie Universe rather than because of them though. 8. Fast and Furious 7 9. Kingsman 10. Avengers: Age of Ultron: 11. Terminator:Genisys 12. John Wick: 13. The Gunman 14. The Hobbit 15. Jurassic World
So, another Superhero movie comes and goes and Big Hero 6 is still my favourite example of the genre this year. I do think it's bar is proving to be a hard one to jump over.

1. Shaun the Sheep 2. Avengers: Age of Ultron 3. Ant-Man - fun, well-acted (well, Rudd doesn't do much for me, but he was at least okay here), but not quite as funny as it thought it was. Hard not to wonder "what-if" with Wright and Cornish's names still in the credits.

It moves towards its inevitable end with such an under-stated stillness that I found it extremely unnerving and quite moving. It's been a long time since I last saw a film in a cinema where I felt I'd been punched in the heart and had to go for a wee walk outside afterwards to compose myself. Terrific performances and direction. 22: Ant-Man: On paper it looked like a disaster but on screen it proved surprisingly fun, enjoyable and funny with likeable leads and a freshness for the universe the film takes place within. Good stuff and the construction of the final battle is inspired. 23: The Gambler (2014). 24: Selma. 25: Kill The Messenger. 26: Fast and Furious 7 (IMAX). 27: The Water Diviner. 28: Wild Card. 29: Run All Night. 30: The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya (subbed). 31: Cinderella (2015). 32: True Story. 33: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. 34: Kingsman: The Secret Service (IMAX). 35: Avengers: Age of Ultron. 36: Child 44. 37: Good Kill. 38: Project Almanac. 39: Man Up. 40: It Follows. 41: The Salvation. 42: Unbroken. 43: Spooks: The Greater Good. 44: Unfriended. 45: Spy. 46: Mr Holmes. 47: The Connection. 48: Son of a Gun. 49: The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. 50: Taken 3 (IMAX). 51: The New Girlfriend. 52: Seventh Son. 53: Foxcatcher. 54: Minions. 55: A Little Chaos. 56: Ex Machina. 57: Tomorrowland: A World Beyond (IMAX). 58: The Divergent Series: Insurgent. 59: Far From The Madding Crowd (2015). 60: Terminator: Genisys. 61: San Andreas. 62: Self/Less. 63: John Wick. 64: The Gunman. 65: Chappie. 66: Blackhat. 67: Into The Woods. 68: Big Game. 69: The Falling. 70: Jurassic World. 71: Survivor. 72: Jupiter Ascending. 73: Pitch Perfect 2.

1 - Ant Man - thoroughly enjoyed it, despite it being the Marvel Studios film I was least enthused for. A nice heist flick with some comic touches and Paul Rudd worked really well as Scott Lang. Great to see Michael Douglas as a Hank Pym with none of the comics baggage. 2 - Avengers: Age of Ultron 3 - Terminator: Genesys 4 - Fast and Furious 7 5 - The Lego Movie (Bafta reissue)

1. Ant-Man - So refreshing after the overly continuity heavy Avengers. Really didnt expect to be listing this above Avengers, but its fun, visually different and just enough of Wright and Cornishs quirkiness survives to its benefit.
Haley Atwell is the new Samuel L Jackson. Strange but true.
2. Mad Max Fury Road - So good, makes not a lick of snse unless it is a reboot or its a different Max but who cares when its this amazing.
3. Fast and Furious 7 -
4. Avengers Age of Ultron
5. Kingsman
6. Paddington
7. Big Hero 6
8. Mission Impossible Rouge Nation: Somewhere in the middle of the series, but did benefit from being the first film to have a more or less established team at the beginning and to keep and use it throughout.
9. Tomorrowland
10. Night at the Museum 3
11. Birdman
12. Gone Girl
13. Pitch Perfect 2
14. Jurassic World - Not terrible, but not great and over reliant on all three of the previous films and on its VFX. Having said that I couldnt help liking the ending.
15. Terminator Genisys - Not bad way to reboot theseries, but theres problems. Fora reboot of the Star Trek type to work, you need something to happen to happen that didnt before, it would have helped if they had done more (thats to say anything) to show that change. Then there was the almost total lack of danger or emotional stress. Theres one section with Reese just after meeting up with Sarah that felt tense, but for a character that the entire audience knows is supposed to die it never really occurred to me that he might.
16. San Andreas - Big dumb film, but I enjoyed it. Hits almost all the disaster movie cliches. Eventually gets to ambitous with the vfx and looks pretty bad towards the end.
17. Big Game
18. Focus
19. Chappie
20. Mortdecai
21. Into the Woods
22. American Sniper
23. Taken 3
24. Jupiter Ascending - Admittedly I watched it on a plane and was sleepy, but it seemed to be lacking in any excitement for most of the film.

Achieves what it sets out to do well. It's just not my cup of tea. Amusingly, even when nicely shot it's just impossible for the Glasgow Barrowlands to look anything other than the shit-hole it is! 60: The Divergent Series: Insurgent. 61: Far From The Madding Crowd (2015). 62: Hot Pursuit: Passable. 63: Terminator: Genisys. 64: San Andreas. 65: Self/Less. 66: John Wick. 67: The Gunman. 68: Chappie. 69: Blackhat. 70: Into The Woods. 71: Big Game. 72: The Falling. 73: Jurassic World. 74: Survivor. 75: Jupiter Ascending. 76: Pitch Perfect 2.

1. Paddington 2. The Tale of Princess Kaguya 3. Big Hero 6 4. Shaun the Sheep 5. Inside Out: A far more intelligent, articulate and touching film than the trailer wants you to think it is. This is a film that is well observed and surprisingly insightful, and has a healthier message for kids and adults alike than I was expecting. Basically, Pixar bringing the A Game. 6. The Terminator (re-release) 7. Mad Max:Fury Road 8. Ant-Man: 9. Mission Impossible:Rogue Nation - Competent, solid sequel to Ghost Protocol. Confirms that they've got their heads around how to do these films now. Nothing here to really surprise, but competently done and manages to square the circle between the "absurd stunt" approach and the "skullduggery" approach. (I do hope that the name of the adversaries in this film was intentionally a mythology gag though - it seems too appropriate to be entirely coincidental). 10. Fast and Furious 7 11. Kingsman 12. Avengers: Age of Ultron 13. Terminator:Genisys 14. John Wick 15. The Gunman 16. The Hobbit 17. Jurassic World

1. Ant-Man 2. Avengers / Captain America Triple Bill 3. Spooks: The Greater Good 4. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation 5. Terminator: Genisys 6. Fantastic Four (not that bad after all) 7. Fast and Furious 7 8. Kingsman: The Secret Service 9. Taken 3 10. Jurassic World 11. Exodus: Gods and Kings
Likeable enough characters, slow build-up to the origin, then a bit rushed towards the end. Clearly not intended to be a standalone work but the first chapter in a series. Not a mention of any mutants existing in this universe. Didn't stay to see if there was a scene after the end credits.

1 - Ant Man 2 - Avengers: Age of Ultron 3 - Fantastic Four - not deserving of the kicking it's getting. Some good choices, some big flaws. 4 - Terminator: Genesys 5 - Fast and Furious 7 6 - The Lego Movie (Bafta reissue)

No visual flare or even much of a story. The effects never convince. There's an interesting idea about halfway through which is quickly discarded and that's about all I can say about it on a positive note. 77: Survivor. 78: Jupiter Ascending. 79: Pitch Perfect 2.

1. Ant-Man 2. Avengers / Captain America Triple Bill 3.The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (lovely Roger Moore-type tongue-in-cheek quality, and gains ten points for doing it in period rather than bringing into modern era like so many other reboots) 4. Spooks: The Greater Good 5. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation 6. Terminator: Genisys 7. Fantastic Four 8. Fast and Furious 7 9. Kingsman: The Secret Service 10. Taken 3 11. Jurassic World 12. Exodus: Gods and Kings

(Yep, I've been to the pictures TWICE! TWIIIIIICCCEEE!!!!)
1. Avengers Age of Ultron
2. Strange Magic From Lucasfilm. This is why I'm a good Dad! Going to see this with the kiddie-sprinkles! Animation is great, some funny bits that made me laugh, but it's your basic girlie juke-box musical. One of the better children's films I've seen of late though. What ii utterly and completely EXCELS at though, is the fact that it is a Children's Film! A proper Children's Film, for children! There's is no adult humor, no adult in-jokes, no trying to aim it slightly at parents, it is purely a Children's Film. And I salute it and Lucasfilm. Well done.

1. Ant-Man 2. Avengers / Captain America Triple Bill 3.The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 4. Spooks: The Greater Good 5. Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation 6. Terminator: Genisys 7. Hitman: Agent 47 (not bad for a movie based on a computer game) 8. Fantastic Four 9. Fast and Furious 7 10. Kingsman: The Secret Service 11. Taken 3 12. Jurassic World 13. Exodus: Gods and Kings
The title lead in 'Agent 47' is a complete non-entity, but the film is saved by the heroine, who is actually the main character in the story and rather good. And the action sequences are very slick.
Between this and 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation', 2015 is turning out to be a very bad year for expendable henchmen on motorcycles.
