Wow. What an entirely pointless exercise. Why do that? do they really think that'll make those strips appeal to a modern audience? that's terrible.

There's various mentions of recolouring elsewhere in this sub forum but Spider-Man Kraven's LastHunt and a reprint of early Iron Fist spring to mind as two other nasty examples.

The recolours of a lot of BWS Conan are dreadful as well.

It's very difficult to recolour older comics in the modern style as they were usually drawn to take into account the colouring and printing processes of the day. It's why they often look awful when recoloured even if the new colours have been done well as such.
Generally I prefer the style used in Marvel Masterworks etc when the colour has been redone but in the style of the original with the old 'dotty colouring' smoothed out. That can make old comics really pop and look just as 'modern' as new material.

Wow. What an entirely pointless exercise. Why do that? do they really think that'll make those strips appeal to a modern audience? that's terrible. That is often the intent behind such efforts. Remember there are a lot of folk out there who only read licensed material when they read comics and just won't touch 'old' stuff. You see this a lot with, well, Transformers fans in particular! -Ralph

I remember my early days online struggling to comprehend the fact people wouldn't read the UK comic because the colouring was bad.
I mean WTF? Many an argument ensued.

I think the only recolouring in a modern style I liked was the recolouring of X-Men 1-3 by Claremont and Lee, which was done as X-Men Forever: Alpha.
That worked.

Been re-reading the Star Wars Omnibuses of the old Marvel material this week courtesy of the Comixology sale. I might be slightly biased from childhood but volume 3, mainly drawn by Simonson and written by Micheline, is superb and absolutely nails it. Yes Tom Palmer is inking it but somehow his inks kind of work with Simonson. Well worth a read especially at sale price.
Pushing on with v4 which takes me up to Jedi.

I love those too. I bought the trades last year before Marvel obliterated Dark Horse. There's something special about the naivety of the universe expanding going on. So completely unknowing of the behemoth that was to come.

Some epic collections have popped up on the wikipedia list beyond what's on Amazon. Happened before the info has been kosher. Star Wars: Legends The New Republic 3 06/12/2017Result. This plus the previous volume are the only SW comics you'll ever need. Are those Star Wars comics the rubbish ones with Wedge? -Ralph

Wedge and other X-Wing pilots, yes. But not rubbish.
Wouldn't surprise me if someone else has done a rubbish version.

I've never cared for Wedge. Complete non-entity of a character. I always forget he exists until someone mentions him.

I am reading Dark Empire as ordered, but it is hard going! The Emperor just turned up, it turned out he wasn't dead after all. Also Boba Fett just turned up, it turns out he wasn't dead after all. "I'VE GOT A BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS!!!!111111"

Best main cast SW comics done after the original trilogy and Marvel run.
The best stuff Dark Horse did was the X-Wing series and Crimson Empire, none of which involve the main cast.

The sequels to Dark Empire...not quite up to snuff, although Cam kennedy's art on DE2 is still tops.

I have a tale of woe to share: I discovered that my parents had moved my 1970s/80s Star Wars/ESB/ROTJ comics into the garage after I left home a decade previous. How did I discover this fact? Because I spotted a cover underneath a pile of rubbish in a skip when I made a random visit last year. They claimed the comics had been contaminated by rat urine while being in the garage and couldn't be saved.
I've now put them up for adoption and want to get back my Star Wars comics. What would be the cheapest way of doing this? Should I go for the Marvel legends hardcovers, epic collection paperbacks, or track down the earlier reprints?

I'd say Epic Collections, but they've not got that far yet.... Thanks Uncle Phil. I'll give Vol 1 & 2 a try. It won't be the same as the original issues (which, like TFUK, had better image quality and a glossier feel than the US issues) but it'll have to do.
