Teaser Trailer is up:
Looks like it's taking some cues from Man Without Fear by Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.

Marvel tv is shaping up to be more interesting to me than the films this year. I cant build any real interest in antman and im not yet excited about avengers. TV on the other hand is looking good. Hopefully shield will build on a decent first half of season 2, agent Carter has turned out to be a complete blast and then theres the netflix shows.
I like the look of Daredevil. Darker than the rest of mcu, but doesnt look like its trying to copy nolan, unlike a certain ff4 film.
i think I will try to pace myself and not watch it in one day though.

I have watched it all. I never thought I needed a Daredevil show, but 10/10, seriously. Watch out for an exciting cameo by

First episode watched round a friend's this evening. Impressed. A far better start than AoS managed.

I'll give it a whirl when it pops up on shiny disc. I have little interest in watching much TV so getting Netflix would be a waste of money for me.

I didn't think I wanted to watch it until I watched it. It was great. Anyone who says otherwise is objectively wrong, sorry!

I think it is the filming style of this (and Jessica Jones - which I enjoyed a lot) I find plodding. The episodes are drawn out by lots of silences between the characters that I'm sure are deliberate but come across more like "Err.. are we improvising... whose line is it... gosh, this is how real people talk.. right..?"

I have now finished Daredevil S1, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought it was a fantastic show which took advantage of it not being on network tv to really grapple with making something quite real-world and grounded. Tieing Fisk into the whole "post-Avengers" need to rebuild New York was clever, because it gave a central tension to things - both Daredevil and Fisk genuinely wanted to save Hell's Kitchen, but Fisk thought that "it was necessary to destroy the village in order to save it". Found myself well and truly invested in all the characters by the end of the season - which is why I think the last few episodes worked, we had gotten to see all the set-up and gotten the characters well defined, so that when the dominoes started to fall we had a vested interest in the outcome.
The fight choreography for the season is absolutely cracking as well - managing to have a real-world feel, but still get in the trademark Daredevil acrobatics. It is really good to see them take a lesson from Hong Kong cinema as well - people's fighting style's reflecting something about them. Fisk especially, with the way he uses raw aggression and massive power to overcome an opponent is defined by that style both in his usual remotely crushing of enemies but also up close and personal. It makes the fights so much more fulfilling to watch than the very same choreography of some of the Marvel movies.
Cracking stuff. I look forward to seeing the next season at whatever point I get the opportunity.

What did you think about {Spoiler}when Ben Urich gets offed? I was gobsmacked when it happened.

That was superb television. {Spoiler}I was absolutely stunned when I realised it was going to happen. You know it is inevitable from the moment that Fisk switches the light on. But the journey through that scene from that moment to Fisk strangling him is an absolutely fantastic piece of doom-laden inevitability. It was shocking, and memorable as hell. Coming so close to the moment when Karen shoots Wesley as well gave it all the more impact - because we'd already seen that if there was an "out" then it would have been checkov's gunned and so you know, no matter how much you want it not to be, that Urich's death is inevitable. Really good writing too. You can see how this situation came about, how Urich could have avoided this fate, but also why he could never have just walked away - no matte what. Karl

Five episodes into season one now on the freebie Netflix trial. Very impressed. Wilson Fisk is just brilliant, so well played. If the rest of the Marvel series are this good I'm going to have to subscribe.

Finished the first series in the week. Very impressed all round. When you look at that as a marvel entry into the world of non-network American TV shows, freed of those constraints, it fits in very well. Thoroughly absorbing narrative and interesting characters. I really liked the way that it was as much a series about Fisk as it was Murdock, especially toward the end. The way Fisk grows out of the shadows in the first few episodes and then gets an entire episode to himself allows him to breathe as a villain. Seeing him trapped in his own routines and his love for Vanessa almost makes you feel sorry for him. Very well done. {Season one spoilers}Some shocks at the end. Killing off Wesley was necessary to make Fisk stand by himself, which you could see coming as he became increasingly redundant (the reveal Fisk could understand chinese and didn't actually need him was a good sign), but Urich was a shock to me. Being an established Marvel character I thought he'd be safe. The whole series had a low key feel to it - it was all conversations interspersed with fights, but the fact every conversation was gripping shows how well written it was. In fact it was so far removed from the usual capes and tights stuff I was almost disappointed by him getting the costume. I haven't read Daredevil comics - but this all felt like Marvel's answer to Batman, is that how he's perceived as a character? Street level, gritty vigilante type who does good largely through his own training and skill rather than outright super powers?

{Spoiler}The Ben Urich death was the same for me, an absolute shock given as you say he's an established Marvel character. You could probably argue that Moon Knight was supposed to be Marvel's Batman, Daredevil is somewhere between Batman and Spider-Man. While he doesn't have the physical strength, his radar sense while not exactly known by most has given him what appear to be superhuman reflexes and awareness, so the ground level criminals know he has something about him. If you want to read Daredevil comics a small recommendation list. Daredevil Visionaries: The Frank Miller/Klaus Janson era - collected as three books The Man Without Fear: Frank Miller and JRJR - his origin. Daredevil - Ann Nocenti/JRJR - an under-appreciated run that seems to be getting a bit more attention - this is where JRJR really becomes JRJR, and has a great Punisher/Daredevil crossover and is the intro of Typhoid Mary. Daredevil - Born Again - Frank Miller & David Mazzuchelli. Daredevil by Brubaker and Bendis. Daredevil by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee - a lighter tone to the book, but no less entertaining for it. A smaller run but worth checking out is the Karl Kesel/Cary Nord issues, just before he was rebooted by Joe Quesada and Kevin Smith. It's a return to the swashbuckling roots of the character and something of an inking as to a lighter touch to the book could work, which Waid and Samnee would run with fifteen years later.

Thanks for the recommendations, I might well investigate some of these to get a feel for the comic version.

Question for those who know - can I go on to Season 2 straight away? or is it advisable to watch Jessica Jones first? I don't know if they link in any way.
(suddenly getting a deja-vu that I've asked that somewhere already, but I can't remember the answer)
