I always thought I'd keep mine as Devastator almost all the time. But I've really been enjoying then individually. Apart from Mixmaster.

Oh and Mixmaster's arse-mixer makes MP Magnus's arse-flap look like nothing! It's so hideous I think my subconscious blanked it out of my mind earlier in a desperate attempt to avoid insanity!

That's a shame - Mixmaster is my favourite Constructicon and the one I was looking forward to the most (besides Devastator of course). Mine arrived from Kapow yesterday - now just to ignore the massive box until Christmas day...

Sorry Hufferlover, wish I had better news on the Mixmaster front.
You have to resist opening it for, what, seven weeks?!?! You are a stronger man than I!

Off topic they also have trypticon, while its £160 currently, with Black Friday this week, I wouldn't be surprised ot see it fall below Kapows price.

Summary? For those of us that should be working right now. I assume it's infinitely better to Hasbro's version, etc..?

The woman has her fingernail aired different colours and looks bored.
Not watched it all the way through, I'll leave that to other brave warriors.

Well my fingernails are all one consistent colour - chipped black. I'm happy that I went with the Hasbro version! ;-)

The United version was not *that* much more than the hasbro version. Fifty bucks isn't hard to swallow for what more you get. Then Amazon put CW on sale for nearly fifty bucks less than normal. Making it officially more than $100 cheaper. I broke and ordered the hasbro version for $109.

Yep. That's pretty much what happened to me, also.

So my Dev came in, today. All I can really say is wow. Just... wow. I'm not sure if that's a good wow, or a negative wow.
It's genuinely a lot to take in. I am glad I jumped on the $109 deal, and didn't wait for the $219+ takara version.
Either way, photos do *not* do this thing's size justice. I don't care how many pictures you see with people holding it, or compared to figures you know well. This thing will shock you.

Nnnnnnngggghhggghhh! More temptation.
Wonder if Amazon will knock it down any more on Friday. These elbows are getting more and more expensive.

I honestly don't think the Elbows would really improve it much, for the price hike.
I also don't understand why Scrapper doesn't have them, other than being cheap. Scrapper and Longhaul don't have elbows, but by god everyone in the set has ankle tilts!
They're really, extremely blocky. They really do look like upscaled deluxes. Because of that, they kinda feel cheap, underdetailed, and rushed. But they are an impressive size. I think the engineering, and faults would be a lot easier to forgive were they deluxes. On the flip side I don't mind nearly as much at $100, as I would at $150, or especially $200. Optimus Maximus is only waist high. He's flippin' HUGE!

I wonder if they were originally designed to be deluxes and were then scaled up to up the price of the set. But then the retail for this is $150 isn't it, so what will the Victorion box be? A combiner set is about $90 retail isn't it? I bet Victorion is at least a hundred and they're all repaints with new heads. I suppose a set of six new deluxe moulds as a box set wouldn't be that much less than what Devastator costs anyway.

Eh, I imagine part of the basic engineering is to keep costs down, as it's so gigantic, but part of it is to keep them structurally sound, as more complex figures with more joints wouldn't be able to hold the weight of something so massive.

So the question is whether to accept all the compromises and go for the cheapest option, or splash out on the Takara version to eek out every possible way of getting the best from it.

I'm gonna go with scaled up, because there are some stupid choices made that do not keep costs down, such as every robot including Dev having ankle tilts. The tilts add nothing, and aren't important in transformation. And seeing Scrapper in leg mode, I don't see how elbows would make it unsound. The tab that holds the arms in place is no less unsound than a tab that would lock the elbows straight.

I'd missed this in the Unite Devastator images from Generations 2015 Generations 2015 till I had the book in hand: Longhaul's tipper holds the individual weapons in combined mode.

Decision time! Omegalock are saying they're expecting Unite Devastator in stock in a fortnight. First time I've seen a confirmed release date. Kapow will be sending invoices on Thursday with the stock being shipped to them next week and customers having it well before Christmas. That'll be a present from Santa to me on Christmas morning then.
