Thank goodness for their preorder alerts. No question on this one.
I am so glad I did not break down and get Prime or BH Magnus...

I still feel that combiner wars was the wrong time to bring back the leader class.

To be fair it came back at the end of Generations 30th with Jetfire, but yes CW would have been in their thinking then.
It's odd because it doesn't really fit the play pattern.
Now if they'd brought Generations Leaders back at the start of the Thrilling 30th.....

Aye. At the start of the t30, or waiting until after CW, both these make sense. But like I've said add nausium, combiners only work when they're reasonably larger than everyone else.
And they were, until these guys. While one could make an argument for jetfire, TC, Megs, and UM are typically normal sized guys. And without the combiners in play, they largely work as leaders.

Megatron and Thundercracker don't work size wise for me, but I'm happy to go G1 scale with the Generations figures, so Magnus & Jetfire are fine compared to the combiners. Bogatan's right, that Magnus is clearly not the same scale as the Megatron.

Magnus needs to be bigger.

If you're talking about scale based on alt mode, magnus and TC are probably to scale. Megatron and CW Optimus seem to be reasonably in scale.

Does it matter when these Leader toys come out or what subline they were released in? If folk like them then just enjoy them as toys you enjoy. I can't understand getting even slightly irked by it.
I'm quite looking forward to Magnus when he comes out if I have spare pennies to be able to afford one. That he's released in Combiner Wars means nothing to me as the box will be tossed in a recycle bin anyway.

I don't really have a problem with any of this, but it's the scale that's the point really. Transformers and scale is a massive debate in itself, but we all have ideas in our heads about how the toys should look with each other. Because Transformners are by nature unable to use a consistent scale it's impossible to resolve - but an equivalent in another range would be something like having a 12" Luke Skywalker stood by a 5" Leia and the manufacturer saying, "What's the problem with that then? they're toys, just play with them."

The bit that matters is virtually all the other toys in the Combiner Wars line are tied into the combining gimmick EXCEPT the Leaders which sort of stand by themselves.

If you're talking about scale based on alt mode, magnus and TC are probably to scale. Megatron and CW Optimus seem to be reasonably in scale. No nothing to do with that type of scale. More like this. Its just clear that Tyrion and Hodor are not being seen at the same scale. I think its partly something to do with the heads. Most Transformers in the same size class have similar sized heads. It's like when TFCC did Punch/Counterpunch, the head didnt look that bad, but it was tiny in comparison to pretty much all deluxe. Sometimes you look at something and feel like its not the same as the others. Megatron and TCs scale just looks different to Magnus. None of this bothers me, each toy looks fine, but stood next to Magnus, Megatron in particular looks like a voyager that has been scaled up or Magnus shrunk. Or it could just be that I'm used to seeing Megatron about the size of Optimus and Ultra Magnus being bigger.

Good example, that's exactly what it is. And this is probably the only place in the world you'll find Tyrion compared to Megatron.
Which is why the hub is so brilliant.

I don't get what you're trying to say with the graphic, but I follow with the head, now. Looking at it again, I've a feeling maggy's head is a bit undersized due to transformation plus minicon gimmick. Anytime a head is a bit too small, it's usually for transformation.

Even in isolation I feel Megatrons head is just too big, put along side Magnus which looks just about perfect but leaning slightly to the smaller end of the perfect, it looks massively oversized.
But thats due to personal opinion. I've always thought big guy should have smaller heads to make their bodies look bigger and enhance the overall bulkiness. They did that for Magnus and if Megatron is going to be a leader class figure he should have a smaller head too.
The graphic is mostly saying I am impatiently awaiting season 5. But also that Megatron looks as blown up to me as Tyrion is in my pic.

Well, there is the likelyhood Megs is a backdoor MP. And with similar sized MPs, his head's a good size with them. I don't have mp 10, as the only one i ever saw was broken in box, so I can't say for certain.

Your probably right there. Sadly for me, thats just resulted in a toy I'm not convinced looks that good with MP10 and has wound up not quite being right with Generations either.
Basically its, kind of literally, the new MP5. Looks great on its own, but doesn't work that well with others. Even with MP1 it looked sort of different.

Well, there is the likelyhood Megs is a backdoor MP. Makes me shudder to consider that. If that's part of the thinking behind doing Megatron like this... <looks at Apollyon again>

Danger. DANGER!
Man this place is frightening. I have literally spent the last twenty minutes looking at pictures because of the Masterpiece thread thinking, "Well, I could ebay my Hasbro Thundercracker and buy the new MP11 version because it's got more purple on it..." and that suddenly becomes REALLY important when an hour ago it wasn't even in my mind.
I need the blue pill.

*tosses rattling box to pinwig*
All sorts of colours of pills in there, you'll find something to suit I'm sure. I think I take a much more relaxed attitude to this sort of stuff, especially the issue of scale. In the case of that I think it is partly because when I first encountered Transformers as a kid there was no media to compare them to, there was just the toys. Looking at the toys even a young Karl could see that they weren't on the same scale - after all, Starscream turned into an F-15 yet he was pretty much the same height as Jazz who only turned into a Porsche... And that non-scale thing seemed to carry on with most of the 84 and 85 toys being rarely in any consistent scale from one part of the line to the next. So the whole thing is kind of a non-issue to me.

I hadn't realistically considered a Wreckers set before! But- "Suddenly.... Life had knew meaning to me...." Is was the best thought I'd ever had! Thankfully I pulled back from the edge... I remembered my true collecting targets thanks to the endless lists I make of them. I think the eternal child in us makes these thoughts from time to time.

I remembered my true collecting targets thanks to the endless lists I make of them. I think the eternal child in us makes these thoughts from time to time. Oh the endless lists.. yes. The endlessly revolving priorities. Is it more G1 gaps this week? or missing Animated? or is it vitally important to worry about getting 3P purchases up to date, or now Masterpiece, Generations current & missing FoC ones... yesterday Corelock made me think I should really be pushing the classics line instead and the other day it was owning every Shockwave ever made ever. Then curve balls get thrown at you like buying Go! ExPrime purely because it was cheap and I was curious, and now I've got all six Swordbots too. Well, two in the post still. I think my TF wants lists is divided into about six different areas and I *still* go off at tangents. Oddly enough a Generations Wreckers set was something I was trying to do about a year and a half ago. I think my set currently consists of Springer, Sandstorm, Roadbuster, Whirl, FoC Magnus in the Mebsuta armour to make him bigger than the others, and Fansproject Warbot Assaulter standing in very nicely for Broadside. Which makes *kind of* a Wreckers set. Another unfinished project. It being they're all Voyagers too makes it an oddly large set. Veering off topic here. I sense Phil is about to move this...

The tail end of last week is the first time I've started having reservations about Magnus. He does seem too small in the pictures. Then I saw the robot modes pictures on the BBTS preorder and saw the white inside wrist where the blue armour doesn't go the full way round and that made me sad.
