Well, although I think that the Lib Dems holding their nose and going into coalition was the responsible thing to do for the country in order to provide a stable government in the recovery from a global economic meltdown, and that history will judge them more kindly than the voters for doing so, I switched my vote from Lib Dem to Labour because I wanted a party that had ruled out an EU referendum. And my constituency has changed hands from Lib Dem to Labour. Although that is small comfort, as we now will have that referendum regardless.
Staying in the EU is my top priority for this next term. Thankfully UKIP dropped from 2 MPs to 1 (I never thought I'd see an up side to first past the post, but there it is), and if Cameron commands the respect of his party following his success he might just be able to keep the Eurosceptics in line a bit better than the Tories have previously and deliver an 'in' vote... Argh, who am I kidding? We're doomed!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/election-2015-32594267#post_32667014Boundary changes Posted at 18:12
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the re-drawing of constituency boundaries "to lock Labour out of power for decades" is a priority for the new Conservative government.
The paper says senior Tories see this as "unfinished business" because the Lib Dems blocked such changes during the last parliament.

I cant shake the feeling that at some point in the next few years or decades we'll look back at today as the day everything went horribly wrong. Obviously hope I'm wrong, but boundary changes, selling off the NHS, welfare cuts, break up of the UK and leaving Europe all in a matter of a year or two.
Or maybe it all went wrong 5 years ago when the Libdems decided to commit suicide rather than do something with the influence they suddenly found themselves with.

No. Before then. Global banking crisis. That led to Labour being kicked out by the voters, and one of them leaving a note to their Conservative successor saying "There's no more money. Good luck!"

Boundary changes do have a habit of backfiring on Tory government. Recall Major's one before the 97 election? 3 safe seats Richmond & Twickenham, Kingston, and Surbiton became Twickenham, Richmond Park and Kingston & Surbiton, all to unseat Norman Lamont in Kingston. All 3 went Lib Dem at the next Parliment.

Obviously hope I'm wrong, but boundary changes, selling off the NHS, welfare cuts, break up of the UK and leaving Europe all in a matter of a year or two. I am curious to see what happens next, I will admit that. There are already dark rumblings up here along the lines of this government not having any legitimate rule over Scotland (leave aside that this isn't the test of legitimacy of a UK government, a large proportion of the Scots population already saw themselves as a nation under occupation. I suspect that perception is likely to grow. I'm going to lay my cards on the table - I would expect either a further secession referendum by the middle of the coming parliament or, if the Conservatives decide to kick and scream and drag their heels, a contested declaration of independence in an attempt to force one. I'll be honest, as someone who suspects that he is far more liberal politically than some of my family I am viewing this state of affairs with a sense of dread that I don't think they fully understand. I tend to agree with Martin that a lot of this can be traced to the catastrophic failure to regulate the banking sector, leading to a genuinely terrifying economic crash. Sadly, the Government that was voted in subsequently to that have managed to slow this countries recovery to a crawl compared to other nations... and the Electorate in their wisdom have opted to reelect them to continue to do so. Anyone but me get a Game of Thrones vibe from today's political developments? I thought I had a rough idea of the possible outcomes of this election... and then SUDDENLY EVERYBODY DIES!
I mean, I wish I could go back in time two days and put money on the Labour, Lib Dem and UKIP leaders all resigning within the space of an hour. They'd think I was off my trolley!

So that would make Nicola Sturgeon... Manse Rader, the King Beyond The Wall, I guess. She being in "The North" but not dead, and with lots of northerners rallied behind her.... Actually, I figured Clegg for going - the absolute electoral gutting that the Lib Dems got is one of the few things I did see coming. Did not forsee the size of the Labour drubbing in Scotland at all though. That did surprise me. Karl

Ralph and I were chatting about this when the results started coming in and on Friday morning.
If David Cameron is going to have the referendum on whether the UK stays in the EU that is where we can see the spectre of a second referendum on Independence occuring. If he gets his way and we end up out of the EU and if the Scottish people want to stay in the EU, then Sturgeon can look to call a second referendum and if that happens it's a slam dunk for yes.
I do not think the history books will look kindly upon Clegg, Cameron et. al.

Given that the Conservatives are already in he process of trying to slam through all their worst ideas from the Coalition years while Labour/Lib Dems are busy sorting their leadership out I can see people looking back on his years as better times. Sad but true.
In other news Sturgeon believes she and the SNP are now the real opposition at Westminster.

They are the only opposition party that came through the election mostly intact and with more than single figures for their seat allocation. I'd rather it had been the Greens, but there we go. The SNP really don't have much to lose in Westminster- the more the right wing press attack them, the stronger their support grows back home. They're free to lambast every merciless policy the tory party spit out without fear of censure.
Labour, meanwhile, has at least 8 candidates in the running for their new leader and I've only ever heard of maybe two of them. The Blairite faction is already saying they lost the election by being too left wing. I don't see them being much use in the short term.
