I believe the Ladybird book intros also make no reference to this either. Their intro blurbs said "Leaders come and go. Galvatron travels back from the 21st Century to take over from Megatron, commander of the Decepticons. Then the strange disappearance of Optimus Prime leaves the Autobots without a leader, and Ultra Magnus arrives from Cybertron to take his place as the Autobots' new commander. And so the fight goes on, both now and far into the future, on different time levels." It was like the Ladybird books had been read by someone who had read just the opening chapters of Target: 2006 and proceeded as if it was going to remain that way for some time. Martin

My suspicion with that is more that Ladybird asked Hasbro for the background on the two characters and someone at Hasbro gave them a potted version of what the comic was doing. Or Hasbro just sent them that.
I think with the film characters specifically it might be that Bob did his bio writing as usual, which is where the city commander idea came from, unaware that in this case it was actually Sunbow and MP who were going to define them via the film. That might explain why the US comic never embraced them properly; they weren't Bob's creations so he didn't care.

Alright then. I've had time to dig out the spreadsheet, so here we go. Here are all the figures I have that are Optimus Prime because that's what they're called on the box, or they're Convoys because that's his name in Japan, or it's just because it's close enough for me. (Like, my Combat Hero Prime is probably a Sureshot, but I got it unboxed, so it's Optimus Prime for me. And yes, I know about his chest stickers. And I don't care.) So here we go. Apologies for not being too specific with some of these, but this is what I had logged in my spreadsheet before the need to become ultra-specific had become a thing: - Original

This is possibly incomplete, since we've still not properly catalogued the Conjunx's collection, although there's mostly overlap between us, and not that much since Prime isn't her favourite character. Also this list should be due to be getting shorter sooner, since I do need to cut down due to space reasons. It used to be a dream of mine to get all the Primes, but that's just not practical now as they're so many of the damned things. And so few of the recent ones have sparked joy. So now I'm free to cut down - which is nice and freeing, actually...

It's fine, I can stop buying Optimus Primes any time I want. And, you know, given the age of the franchise, that's not even three a year. It's fine. All fine.
Now if only I could actually move in my dining room/office...

ISTR he says that there was no pressure from Hasbro to include these characters and he had enough going on and plenty of other toys that needed to be featured.

Week B: How many Bumblebee toys do you own now? Ummm, if you're talking just me: Earthrise First MP (a very small third party 'baby' Bumblebee, I forget who by, but he's exceptional. And another larger very G1y third party Bumblebee.) If you're talking the entire household: Eldest acquired my Classics. Youngest has a G1y Legion/Legend scale one, I forget which. And another slightly larger less G1y one from some line or other. So, 2, 4, 5, or 7, depending.

Smallest transforming Transformers My Action Master is still MOSC, unintentionally. Arrived the week of a house move back in 2011 so got put in a box and only recently found again, one more (international) move later! Legacy core class has been a fixture on my desk for most of the past year, such a nice little fiddle toy.
