Jazz! One of my favorite TFs. Which is odd cos of all the 84 Autobots Jazz is the one who's appeal I've never really got. I don't like the way the chrome bit on the chest moved and as a child I was never sure if the chromed bits on the legs were meant to be the front of his legs or his feet. I was more talking about his character than a particular toy. I didn't ming his '84 figure, but I do know what you mean about the body section you mention. Always seemed too over-complicated. Prowl and mold buddies do that iconic transfornation better.

I love Jazz. I never had a problem with his transformation, and I loved his shades, so much so that I would get confused and almost upset when he was drawn with eyes under there. Target: 2006 was one of my defining traumatic experiences as a child...
As a character, he's an inspiration. Stay cool, stay funky, never take things too seriously and love your music. Do it with style or don't bother doing it, indeed!

Yes the Babbies generally have to be rescued and take back to the safety of the volcano (a rolled up blanket). Menasor and Megatron are the only consistent baddies. All the other Decepticons change their minds and want to be goodies.
