Honestly he looks great, I had been expecting him (and/or Fangry) but he looks better than I thought. And I recently figured out The Trick to keeping Twinferno stable and that mould has improved 100% in my eyes since.
Never owned a G1 Grotusque but I drew him a lot and he was a big character in the stories I wrote as a kid.

Ish. I'm pretty sure this is the most confirmation we'll ever get that there were indeed two additional box sets planned. But I'm also sure that it proves nothing. Somehow. ;-) |

That was interesting. Not a character I'd been after myself, but I may have to get him anyway so's I can have Scorponok for completeness' sake.
I'm unsurprised we didn't get to learn more, though - they'll be saving the juicy news until Toy Fair. Time to hibernate 'til February, I think...

So Grotusque, Scorponok, and Wingspan seem to lend credence to the hypothesis that the fourth box set would be Eukarus/Intelligence themed.
I'm guessing that the voyager would have been Alpha Trion as either Leo Prime, Leobreaker, or Catilla.
I'd say I can't see them using Sixshot twice, but that's exactly what they would have done with Blurr.
I'm willing to bet the Fireblast set would have gone down like this:

That's IF you think Grotusque was destined for the Intelligence Boxset. I don't, a bit too much remoulding compared to the work done for the earlier sets. Ditto Arcee. Wave 6, yes I could see that.

Not sure I buy that reasoning, because it's bloody stupid for them to just release Slugslinger as a wave of one with nothing but repacks of earlier figures, if they had two others to go with it.
If you argue that it's for something to pack Thunderwing and Scorponok with, it'd make more financial sense to put them as a con/HTS exclusive titanmaster twopack, while leaving the deluxes in the retail wave.
Plus YOU already established Arcee's art is part of a bigger piece, like the others.
On that same note, the retooling (at least in grotusque's case) is probably pretooling. And if you were gonna save two figures from the cancelled box sets, it would be these two.

Having seen that Scorponok is a straight repaint of Ultra Magnus, and given that neither of them are really interpretive of the original characters, I'm suddenly less interested. On the other hand, Fengul is just gorgeous. So...

New face for the head mode but otherwise he and Magnus are both repaints of Thunderwing, who in turn is the new Rodimus chest paired with Fangry's limbs and head.
Rodimus used the Ptero limbs and head.

Maybe this is the way we'll see some of the toys speculated about that never otherwise reared their heads, like Spinister from Highbrow (Some details on Highbrow matched the old Spinister toy).
If I can get Carnivac from Wolfwire and Fangry from Grotusque, I will be a happy chappy.
