Be funny if MP BW Megs comes out before MP G1 Megs Version 2!
In fact, I wonder if they could get the Axalon crew done before the Ark crew.
Amazon Exclusive accessory for BW Megs: Giant mangled g1 Optimus head. Yesssss...

It's fitting if bW Megs makes it out first. He IS the greatest villain in the franchise. Also, a rex is easier to sell than a gun.
I do hope that they save the golden disks for Dinobot. And Rattrap BETTER friggin' come with Waspinator parts.
I wonder how they'd compensate Cheetor and Tigatron being completely different, without making two separate molds? I mean cheetor's a cheetah, and tigatron's a tiger. They look and are build very different, and Tigatron was at least a head taller. Would they just bite the size difference and focus on heavy remolding?
And I wish I knew how big Primal is. He really shouldn't be larger than the voyager sized autobot cars, if they want to do convincing size accuracy. That would give Dinobot, Rhinox, and Megatron the advantage of the larger Ironhide scale.
Though I do feel we'll get Lioconvoy before we get a full seasonal lineup of maximals or predacons.

And I was worried that the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars would slip by without fanfare... the IDW comics have introduced a planet that is based around them, which practically guarantees entries into the Generations line, Takara are redoing Blackarachnia, Lio Convoy is a club exclusive, and now this! The icing on the cake!
Curious if they continue. And if they do MP BW Megatron, which version would they do? Considering his Transmetal form is generally considered to be the best.

Okay. This... This I was not expecting. But it is, indeed, just Prime. My only disappointment around this is that we *still* don't have an updated Masterpiece Megatron. But it's only a very small disappointment, because MP Primal - oh by all the guiding hands, fuck yes yes yes.
Unless of course the robot mode sucks because it's accurate to the Beast Wars II movie, and not the Mainframe animation model or something. But from the look of that gorilla mode, I'm doubting that. Of course, my love for the original Ultra Primal knows no bounds - it's a pretty awesome toy. As I'm sure I've mentioned it before, it was my first Transformer after a few years out, back in '98, and I was quite impressed with the detailing, gimmicks, and the poseability of the damned thing. The Masterpiece is going to have to be something special, and just as stable and poseable. This one's going to be judged to the highest of high standards. By me, anyway. And isn't that what matters?
And it's a good question, though - will we see Lio Convoy before a MP BW Megatron? Probably, yes, unfortunately, given that Takara seem to have an aversion to putting out too many "bad guy" Masterpieces. But I really hope they do. And when they do, I really hope it'll be Transmetal Megatron, because that's easily the best of his animation models. Although if they do do his T-Rex form, I do hope that the head hand is suitably sculpted and animateable. And whichever form they go with, he'd better come with a rubber ducky...
Damn. This is something to wake up to.

While this is of course good news, I am because I'm me, going to grumble. If next year is the “year of Masterpiece Beast Wars” - does this mean a lack of G1 figures? they're coming out slower than slow as it is. 3P re going to clean up, but I'd rather be buying Takara.

This is further proof, if we needed any, that everything - including the Transformers Masterpiece line - is better with Munkys!
I never thought they would do this at all. To see that it is coming to pass us glorious news. (I think this is basically my equivalent of everyone else's "Ironhide Moment".).
Don't give me any of this silhouette nonsense after this Tomy, I want to see the...er, both his modes are basically humanoid...Other Humanoid mode properly forthwith!

I do hope Masterpiece Optimus Primal features a soft tummy in gorilla mode that, when squeezed, makes him talk.
"Well that's just prime." "I wouldn't send anyone to do something I wasn't willing to do myself." "Shut up, Rattrap." "Rhinox, stop making eye contact with me while I'm eating this banana."

3P mod of the year right there. Can Shapeways do fur?
No? Oh.
He does look a bit smoooooth to me, but any kind of actual fur would be a mistake I think. He needs sculpting more like the original.

Well, MP has always gone for animation-model accuracy. He did look that smooth in season one, after all.

Aye, that's true. They'll save the furry version for a special, Beast Machines-themed repaint (from the first episode, of course, where they all sported re-worked BW season one models). Which will immediately annoy me since I will already own the original version of MP Primal.
I'd say I should therefore learn from my mistakes, but I suspect that the reality is that they'll do a Blazing Convoy repaint before anything else...

TFW2005 has renders of MP Primal: news.tfw2005.com/2015/12/21/masterpiece-optimus-primal-render-307029 To which I must say: Renders? RENDERS?!? This is, I think, even worse than a fucking silhouette! Why? Because a silhouette at least suggests that they're hiding something they've built. They've not even built a prototype of Primal yet! It's due out next year - there should be a prototype by now! But I guess they're too busy with all the other G1 Masterpieces... Which is a shame, because that render has me a LOT less excited than the original sneak preview of MP Primal. As has already been asked in this thread: What is this actually going to offer that's going to make it better than the original Ultra Optimus Primal? Cartoon accuracy? Well if you wanted that, there's one of the many re-issues, or the Robot Masters versions. And they're all very well detailed, gimmick-laden and poseable. If that's all the MP version is offering, well... we've already got it. And given that from recent trends TakTom seem to be equating "Masterpiece" with "big(ish) and expensive" I don't have an actual lot of hope that this'll be any good. Seasons greetings, everybody! Ho ho ho! ;-)

That render, in monkey mode, looks no better than the original toy. Not impressive .
Edit:
We should remember that Hasbro leader class ROTF movie Starscream was brought over by Takara into the MP line.
This Optimus Primal looks like the same principle , a nice big toy suddenly pushed as a "Masterpiece"

I dunno. I think the render makes it look more simple than the final thing will be. It's untextured for a start and has no indication of the finish the plastic will have. The problem, as everyone says, is that the original toy was pretty good anyway and much closer to the cartoon model than the original G1 figures were to theirs. So all it can be is a spruced up version of the original. There's less room to manoeuvre or improve.

The original Beast Wars Primal toy was absurdly good, great stable robot mode, good beast mode, hidden bits in each arm, shoulder mounted rockets that popped up - it was just awesome, almost too good to improve on.
I'm not judging too much from a render, its the little extras that will make the difference to me in this toy.

You all say that, but for this to be properly part of the new MP philosophy, it should be in scale with MP10. So we're getting all that in a figure an inch tall. Pretty impressive engineering IMO.
