This topic still troubles me because despite having an actual room to myself now I've still got no space to make a meaningful display. Every now and again I come across a photo that inspires me, and I've thought of this idea before, but this chap's got it cracked I think: www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/turbine027-complete-us-g1-collection-euro-japanese.428331/White Ikea Billys as opposed to Detolfs with glass shelves, figures spaced so they don't look cluttered and the key thing that excited me was the way he's got Masterpiece figures with their G1 equivalents. The only problem would be dusting. I've always thought glass doors to solve that, but it doesn't work, and doors get in the way of the display anyway.

I don't think I have what one would call an organised and permanent display of my Transformers stuff. I just have stuff out on the shelves that catches my fancy at a particular time, and then they got back into the storage boxes and are replaced when the whim strikes me.
Long term I am planning to have certain things out on a more permanent display once I identify and obtain suitable display furniture, but that is going to depend on how I feel once I have my Macross and Mospeada stuff in proper display conditions in terms of whether there is room for any other display units in the new place. (I also wouldn't mind picking up things like some of the Bandai chain bases to use from the backdrop point of view once I start settling things into permanent locations.
When I do rotate stuff it tends to be pretty much pull everything down and start again, because what goes back will depend on what inspiration strikes me for. For example - if I have decided "time to convene another Convoy Council", then I need to be pulling the Primes and Convoys together for starters, or if it is a "Neo Protectobots" then I'll need the CW bots and Strongarm rounded up together...
So yeah, clean slate is my usual method.

I've just had a re-arrange myself, in preparations of the Conjunx's impending arrival. Although that said, her collection won't be arriving for a couple pf months. What I have realised is that two Detolfs doesn't quite cut it any more. Especially since my lounge floor is still covered in Combiner Wars and Titans Return figures. It's going badly. I'm definitely going to need more shelves. And an extension.

I once had God Fire Convoy attempt to do a Fossbery Flop onto me whilst I was watching the television. The execution was very good, and they sold their part of the move rather well. Unfortunately they neither tipped me the play, nor was their depth perception up to much. Thus it ended with them bouncing on the other sofa cushion whilst loudly declaring "GOD FIRE!".
I don't think it really put any of us over with the crowd to be honest.

I don't have room to display a great deal. I have a couple of small shelves by my side of the bed which has some Prowls, some Sentries, a Moon globe and a few books. Occasionally a few other chaps may join them. Before the Moon globe Quakewave stood behind the Prowls, a Batman and Superman figure appeared there when that film as out, currently the Fantastic 4 stand infront of the books, the smaller Universe figures, stuff like that. Mostly my figures, and my collections are very steamlined these days (on purpose, less is more), wait patiently in boxes to be played with by me and The Small (usually in some sort of cross-over event), but occasionally also still The Big when she forgets she's got to be cool.
But, when I did do big displays, or when I put up a temporary display, everything was/is in it's correct line, and the SCALE between themselves had/has to be spot on, as according to my Mind's Eye.
I do like the display above, with the G1 figures with their modern MP/Gen versions. Looks nice.

Good timing for this to come back up, I'm due to do it again next week. I have far too many toys spread between 2 houses and nowhere near enough space so I'm now at the stage where some toys will go into storage.
It killed me but my LOTR collection was the first to come down, mostly because I have a helluva lot so it was taking up too much of my limited space. I toyed with the idea of keeping a handful out but couldn't narrow it down so they all went.
I've got a few random bits and bobs that are going to be next into storage. My Star Wars stuff needs moved to a bigger shelf cos the shelf is overflowing with what little I have out and despite having no space I've just gone and bought a Jurassic Park Command Compound and some Dino Riders figures to start a dino diorama.

All the Micromaster stuff is on the same shelf, all the QT-Series figures sit together, if its a boxset then guaranteed theyll all go together, all my Star Wars stuff sits together, all my WWE figures sit in the same ring, all my World of Nintendo 4" figures are lined up together, ive got a Video Game shelf because it's mostly 2 or 3 bits from certain games that looked random and out of place amongst Transformers. I don't go to extremes of all figures of the same height going together, unless they're unpacked at the same time, or all G1 or Generations figures going together. I do have all my variations of Armada Unicron together and all variation of Armada Tidal Wave together though.

This may make more sense for those who know our house....
The DW and TV section of the DVD collection is being moved to above the radiator, with a builder friend of our putting new shelves in: the space is wider.
I suggested the old shelves were shortened and put on the free wall in the library. In putting them up the builder nudged the Ikea unit inside the door and knocked six 70cm x 40cm x 25cm trays off it, containing BW, RiD and Unicron trilogy, several of which disgorged their contents all over the floor while he was hoovering.
Trying not to scream..... and remember how to put Energon Devastator back together!

The Great Unpacking after the move has begun, so far I've managed my G1 cons and.. well that's it. But! It looks like I need to rethink my storage options, the detolfs are just not quite right.
I'm thinking of migrating them to Billie's with the added doors, as they have some reasonable corner options.
I am also back in a bind of what to do with the boxes, they can go in the loft, but as it's a new build we have to then out any boards up on blocks so as to not mess with the insulation which is a bit of a pain,to say the least.

Whereas I am seriously thinking of snagging a couple of detolfs at some point next year. For a while I have been promising myself some proper display options for my Macross and Mospeada stuff (I want to get some flight stands as well - probably the YetiStand stuff from the states because of its flexibility). Now the only problem is working out where on earth I could put them if I get them...
Gah, downsizing!

New house now, supposedly can't use the loft for storage as it invalidates the NHBC guarantee. Need to get some way of raiding some boarding above the insulation so it doesnt squash it all and then boxes will be fine to go up there. What a pain.

The shelf section behind the door in the library is leaning forward again. I got the help in just in time. As we were fiddling with it an entire shelf's worth of books disappeared down the back of the unit necessitating the removal of second shelf's worth to retrieve them. Currently held in place by a plank of wood stretching across the room and resting against the other wall!

Reilly's problem - Re Amazon - has started me thinking again as Pottop Voyager boxes begin to arrive. I have the inbuilt directive - keep the boxes - keep the boxes - but I'm now starting to think, how much space could I save if I dumped all the Generations Leader & Voyager boxes... are they really, cosmically speaking, necessary?

Nah. Get shut of 'em. They must take up a ton of space, and they're not very interesting. No box wouldn't alter their sellonableness much neither.

That's the thing, isn't it. What changed in the world? When people ask about 80s toys the first question is always, have you got the box? (well, after, is it complete?). I have this need to keep boxes now. Not that I'd ever sell any of this tat. I've learned that lesson. It just feels to me like toys are incomplete without them.
Maybe I should dump the inserts and flatten the boxes. That might be a first step.
Many of my Armada toys (near complete run) are back in their boxes, if they came in boxes. In many cases re-tied to the plastic inserts. I can't see me wanting to remove them all again just to ditch the boxes.
